See? I fucking told you so.

Republicans want to ban abortion and at the same time they remove access to birth control to prevent people from getting pregnant.

It just boggles my mind.

And at the same time they're in favor of murdering both Americans (as long as they're criminals) and Iraqi civilians.

No, no, no. See, the real message is that promiscuity is only all right if you can *afford* birth control. Poor people shouldn't have sex. It's not a moral issue, it's a eugenics issue.

My serious response: The Republican party has been increasingly dominated by far-Right thought, and it worries me. The image the party is projecting is increasingly 'We're gonna do things... by the Book' and, speaking as a non-Christian, that both worries me and pisses me off. So many of the things they espouse are utterly unrealistic, and the whole freaking 'family values' thing is at the top of my list. People *have sex*. People were having sex, without being married, *in the 1950s, too*. Some of those people wound up trapped in loveless marriages, or died due to backalley abortions, but, see, those aren't the people who *matter*. Those are godless heathens, roasting merrily in Hell, and by Golly we're a-gonna legislate everyone into being Right with the Lord!

On the other hand, this is a system infested with the most horrid parasites known to man (politicians), so why expect it to be sane and healthy?

Lawyers.

A polician exists to take money from you.

A lawyer makes it an art.

Amazing question, even though many Republicans are actually women. :)

Fair enough.

Let's rephrase:
Why do Republicans, including thier women, hate all other women so much?

It really does start to look that way.

First, to keep logic in the statement, one would need to provide evidence of hatred.

The fact Republicans, women and men, might be against public funding of birth control doesn't offer evidence Republicans hate non-republican women. All women would be affected by the ban on publicly funded birth control, not just non-republican women.

Wow. I mean, really. Wow.

That's not Republican talk. That's hard right Christian talk. Again...hard right...as in extremes...not to mention Catholic. I'm both a Christian (Protestant) and a Republican and I think this whole thing is just lunacy, not to mention counter-productive.

I've said again and again that theocracy is bad. Period. And this is a perfect example. When you are in government you can be informed by your religion or lack thereof, but you can't go about imposing it on others like this. There has to be more to it than religious conviction.

This is nuts...even if it is a smokescreen to divert attention from Neehai's rampant heterosexuality...

If Republicans are generally against government funded health care and other entitlements, it would logically follow they would be against you paying for Sarah's birth control pills.

I don't think he or she meant all non republicans but there are some actions right now that are targetting female medical issues and not just birth control like no longer paying for ovarian cancer screening and insurance can override state laws.

This affects poor women but if catholics are now politicians and have rights to make laws revolving around what they believe in then this is just the first step to a ban.

Ummm being Catholic has nothing to do with it. :) I am, and I'm pro-choice AND pro-birth control! The shock, the horror!

But definately a step in the wrong direction.

you're absolutely right, this does affect all women, Repulican and otherwise.

we can play the semantics game all day, the bottom line remains that this is an absolutely ludicrous decision that will cause far more harm than good in the end.

my favorite part is the whole endorsement-of-promiscuity thing.
i dont know ANY married, monogomous couples who obtain thier birth control through public health sources. only the adulteresses or those who prefer many dicks to one are using these services anyway, right?

If Republicans are targeting women, they are targeting their own people, as many Republicans are women.

You might say they are targeting non-republican women, but I don't see any laws or bills targeting non-republican women.

It's wonderful people can get government funded rubbers, so they can save their money for cigarettes and booze.

1. There's a big difference between this and socialized medicine.
2. The sole motivation for this seems to be misplaced religious conviction.
3. The more access Sarah has to birth control, the less likely she is to go seeking an abortion.
4. What about Dick's rubbers?

Well, I think fiscal conservatism is quickly becoming a myth.

So you don't want to pay for Sarah's birth control (cheap) but you are willling to pay for Sarah's baby (not cheap)?

Sorry, but that is what we call stinkin thinkin.

It is much more effective to prevent pregnancy and disease than to try and raise a child and provide treatment after the fact. It just doesn't make economic sense at all.
