Furries?

I will raise two concerns I have for furries in SL:

1) They seem to be almost everywhere. And I am not talking the cute womenz with cat ears and tails. I am talking the full anthropomorphized foxes and stuff. I guess they don't bother me too much, but they are quite numerous.

2) I would wager that 90% of the furries I have met in-world (note the distiction above) had invisible prim genitalia attached at all times. I don't think I had -ever- seen this on other avatars, only started "popping up" with furries. This is a rather large and disgusting concern of mine (and I know others).

How could it bother you, unless you have Highlight Tranparent on and you're purposefully looking for it - in which case, isn't it kinda silly to call it a "large and disgusting concern"?

I have transparent on quite a lot since I am a builder mainly.

EDIT: Also, in my previous life as a "Jedi" in world, using transparent higlighting was necessary to see which griefers were packing heat and what not.

For #1, I will say that I'm not a furry in the way it is described here, but have been known to wander around in "full anthropomorphized" avs (as well as robot avs, vampire avs, all sorts of crap). I wonder how many of the avs you see are actual card carrying furries.

As for #2, I haven't seen this on furries (don't see them much at all, anyway) but have seen it in clubs on normal avs. Why is this so disgusting and what is the concern (assuming this is in a mature sim)?

You know Marcus, I've had a number of run-ins with role playing sith that did not go real well. I don't think it is a universal issue with Star Wars RPers and don't think the whole group should be marginalized because of it. I also find that I see quite a few of them and they are always carrying weapons  Should I be concerned about this disgusting obsession with RPing the "dark side" and violent weapon use?

Well, they're doing their part to ensure they don't offend others - unless you purposefully want to see things that are meant to be transparent, you won't see the attachments. Its a simple keystroke combination to make them invisible again.

Kinda like if you had x-ray glasses - you might use them for fixing electrical wiring in your house, but you can also see through your neighbor's muumuu.

I would actually equate it to said neighbor then walking in between me and the wall on which I was working. I don't go to FurNation and look around with trans on - they come to my sim. *shrug* Just my opinion, I guess. No need to get defensive about it.

First of all, what buisness is it of yours? Oh, right. You're going out of your way to look for them.

Second, as someone who *also* uses highlight transparent alot, I haven't noticed anywhere *near* that percentage... but I have noticed invisi-wangs on non-furries before a number of times too.

Third, the day I accept a reprimand on "disgusting conerns" from one of the starwars people is the day pigs fly.

I typically have my xcite penis on at least. Maybe its just me, but I don't feel whole without my avatar having a cock.. it invisible except during art shoots or *gasp* cybersex. No, not just poseballs, perv.. I write as a hobby, even offline.

You bring up a good point about generalizing. I guess perhaps I have not been to the Fur areas where they don't wear invisible members. While you may be over-generalizing with the Sith and Star Wars RPers, most have tended to give a bad name to the genre, one of the reasons I left.

All I was saying is that most of them I have met had these attachments on. Artemis had a similar point - until I see more of the opposite, this is all I have on which to base my opinion (and it's no small amount either). Next time I will do more research before forum posting (or likely not post at all, since I could care less about the goings-on of these Furs).

Again, I left that genre for many of the reasons related here once I realized I could not fix things. Also, you are generalizing as badly as I did (which I corrected in a reply I just posted), so I'd be careful with your ranting replies.

Alot of my anger for the furry group also comes from bad luck, as almost all of the furries I run into are the bad apple furries. Such traits include rezzing penii in the middle of sims, having sex in the middle of sims, using lol as a period, need to cause drama about anything, constantly replaying very very annoying wavs, spawning laggy explosives, running around naked with bits attached, having fire/vehicle fights where they shouldn't, spawning furry 'art', and utter disrespect for anyone that isn't a furry.

My bad run-ins probably isn't limited to bad luck. Being part of the Ginko Sims where most of our employees are furries, some furries decide its a furry only community and that they can get away with breaking the rules we set and harrassing humans that come in. I know all furries aren't like this, being that alot of our residents and ginko employees don't go into this behaviour, as well as some of my good friends in SL. But maybe this will explain why some people have problems with furries.

So, basicly what you're saying, regarding the rezzed penii, sex in plain view, over use of "lol", excessive drama, abuse of sound files, etc.. is that all of the furs that you have encountered act exactly like the rest of the people in SL. I've seen this type of behavior coming from nearly every culture here in SL at some point or another, including furs of course. But I fail to see how you can dislike one and not the hundreds of other groups/cultures that do the same things.

No arguement here, some furs do behave this way in one way or another, just an observation that so do other groups, based on what you've cited.

Is your sim public? Do you have "No invisible wangs!" posted as a rule?

Because, like I said earlier, I have not had this problem anywhere near the same degree with other groups as I have with furries. This really all based on my personal expirence, be it bad luck or cruel fate. I'm just trying to explain why I or some others might have with furries, which was the topic question.

Again.. Get over it!

First off, my opinion of the furry community is no different than it is about any other community. I don't like stereotypes, although I will say I have seen quite a few that hold up to it. That much annoys me, but I don't judge everyone based on that. Each person is different, regardless of the group they happen to be a part of.

Secondly, what the heck is all this ranting and raving? You people want to go and rant about when someone asked a simple question? Well.. here's a rant, 'cause I'm sick of the immaturity! I'm a furry, too, how 'bout them apples? :p

Yes.. the furry community has its mix of weirdos, goofballs, "normals" and everything else any other community/group/culture/sub-culture has. Yes, we are numerous. Yes, we have porn, and I do tend to agree with the nastiness of childhood cartoon characters being ruined. That is to say, of course, I don't like it. But let me get this straight...

Someone opens a forum asking for opinions on what people thought of furries, and it gets turned into what sounds to me like some kind of politcal debate? Two words. Grow up. If various groups of people cannot learn to accept that other groups of people have their own tastes and beliefs, this whole thing about wanting peace sounds like a waste of breath.

But let's do a quick comparison, here. Hmm.. weirdos, goofballs, normals.. everything else. Yeah, I think I've seen the same thing in other cultures. Numerous? Hell, we're all human, we are numerous, and we're likely to be anywhere there's another human. Evading meeting someone is impossible these days, you're sure to end up with someone bumping into you, no matter how remote the area you live in is.

Porn. Disgusting porn. Oh hell yeah, I've seen ALOT of nasty human, furry, hentai and whatever else you wanna think to mention. If you're looking for it, of course you're gonna find it! This is a little thing called THE INTERNET. It is a massive library of anything you can imagine or not. There is just as much nasty, low-down, taboo and generally dirty human, hentai and whatever else out there as there is furry.

My point is.. why fear, hate or attempt to obliterate anything you don't understand or agree with, when everything else probably has the same outlook on you that you might on them? I mean, I know ALOT of people. I could care less about what they do in their spare time, as long as they're not intentionally trying to offend and harm me.

The biggest problem with almost ANY culture is accepting what other cultures like. Get over it, grow up, and try understanding and accepting things rather than trying to find stuff you hate about it. Quit looking for ways to dig into and annoy them. Just.. bah.

I have to agree. I don't particularly want to see the care-bears screwing eachother (and thanks to Furnation, I have.)

I don't particularly want to see any pixels (be they human-like, mecha or furry) slapping each other. But welcome to SL. They're all doing it! Those crazy kids...

I'm not sure which thread you're reading, but it asked for our opinions and I stated (in so many replies heh) that I think there are too many and that the ones I have seen wear genital attachments. My -opinion- is that I do not care for this. I was answering the call of the thread. I don't think I was ranting and raving, although I did get jumped on pretty hard for stating an opinion.

Oh wait, this is the forums - I forgot it was a requirement to bash people for their opinions or ideas/suggestions.
