From: Tikki Kerensky Furry re-education centers? You'll leave here once you have ears and tail! In the forest one of my friends was making this big old 60's computer looking thing and we jokingly called it the TransFurmation Machine that turned humans into furries. It was good enough for a chuckle or two until passer by thought we were serious, then it ws f*cking hilarius. But all in all, Furries are people just like you or me behind the monitor. Doesn't matter wether we're leopards, tigers, robots, alien invaders, human, elf, troll, or whatever your mind can come up with as an avitar. We're all the same in RL.

This business of dressing up as fantastical make-believe characters in SL is utterly ridiculous, and all these preverts should be prohibited by the Lindens from polluting our environment.

Furries are okay, from what i've seen they're generally creative and intelligent, albeit a lot of them have some freaky fetishes.
Plus they're pretty much like the only RPers Second Life has.
But yeah, generalizations aside, furries are like anyone else, there's stupid ones, nice ones, freaky sex ones, abstinate ones, short ones, tall ones, fat ones, skinny ones, and so on.

I'm not a furry, but if it wasn't for certain furries I probably wouldn't be here. That said, I have no opinion of them.
Are Saiyans furries? They have tails and transform into giant apes sometimes...

Personally, while I wear furry avs and classify myself a furry; when it gets right down to it, I'm just me.

While reading this thread, I was thinking "I bet a fellow fur wrote the first post". I would love to know why the furry community at large has such a victim complex. If you don't know what I mean, ask a fur what yiffing is sometime. The person you ask will, 9 times out of 10, go to great lengths to explain what furs are really like, and how everyone hates us, even if your question never implicated that you felt anything of the sort. It's very intriguing.
That said, the internet does tend to breed negativity towards furs for whatever reason, but thankfully, that doesn't seem to get carried over into SL much at all. I've been here over a year, and haven't worn a human av since day 1. In that time, I think I've been griefed once for being a fur, and maybe a couple of people not talking to me. People who play humans on SL, in general, seem to have little ill will towards furs, certainly no more so than any other group.

Man, I got griefed tonight by a few jerks for having an anthro av on, and I"m not even a furry. In total, I'd say we've had several occassions of griefers coming over to bother us cuz of our avatars.
As for furries, A lot of them annoy me, but people in general annoy me. I can't hold it against them. I only get ticked off when they insist that I have to be one of them, or my work is 'furry'. I just think I'm a fantasy artist.

You know, there is a little secret about women that most basement dwelling troglodyte griefers don't know is most women like the idea of having animal pattern fur covering their bodies. Anyone who has ever put on a mink coat quickly realizes it is a very sensual feeling and it explains why they are so popular (or were until recent times anyway) and expensive. Being militantly ant-furry will generally act as a turn off to a majority of women unless they share your views (not many). I sell a lot of my skins to non-furs, mostly women who like the idea of being a leopard or tiger woman and who will likely not have sex with you if you give them grief over having a "furry" avatar.
See, its kinda like being homophobic. Most women find the trait undesirable unless they share your views (not nearly as many as you might think). Just as many men find two women having sex highly erotic, many women find two males together to be just as erotic. I had a girlfriend once that was very turned on by men kissing (although she wasn't turned on by m/m sex that much) and I found out when she saw the shower scene in Midnight Run and nearly raped me. Had I been homophobic I probably would have missed out on one of the best nights of sex in my life.
When i first got online, I was shocked to find out much of the male homoerotic art and fiction I was unintentionally running into was done by women. Olivia deBernardis who paints some of the most beautiful and erotic nude women in the art world is straight and happily married. My point being that you are much more likely to get laid by having an accepting nature rather than being anti-gay, anti-furry, aniti-whatever. Doesn't mean you have to like it or engage in it but being cool with it will attract the ladies far more. You will also find yourself not being referred to as "that asshole" nearly as much behind your back.

I've also been in a furry AV since day 1 and never had one griefer for me being who i am. I make SL my escape route from life, as i cant really be myself in the real world. Many people who are in human AVs that I've met accepted me for my personality rather than my AV. I'm not posting to say that furs never have conflicts with others .. by all means they do .. but quoting just about every other poster .. people wearing furry AVs are just humans (whether we like it or not ) in real life. thats my 2L ..(and my first post!) ^.^ ~Murreki

I don't know why everyone's all freaked out about the furies. I mean, yeah, they're dangerous and all, and they work for one of the most malevolent spritis in the underworld, but c'mon... there's only three of 'em! Huh? Oh. Sorry, misread. Never mind!

It was a pair of furries that first stopped to talk to me when I was a rank noob and show me around SL. They were exceptionally nice and were crackerjack builders. They had this full scale spaceship that you could actually walkaround, complete with a little info orb by the entrace with history and technical details and everything. It is an example of everything that is good about SL.

My main annoyance with furries would probably be the furry 'art', or about 95% of it. Some of the most disgusting things I've ever seen have come from 12 year olds with MS Paint or a scanner who think wolf people having the most explicet sex ever and posting it on the internet as 'cute puppies', which is also one of the main reasons why I can't step foot in The Forest of Furnation. But its what alot of them consider art, so its not really any of my buiseness being that its relatively easy to avoid running into. However, when they decide to replace the characters they made up with my childhood cartoons, it goes beyond somehting I can forgive. Alot of this anger comes from furries that like to spawn cubes with just such a texture near me, or as a little treat when I'm going around and cleaning up the sim.
Alot of my anger for the furry group also comes from bad luck, as almost all of the furries I run into are the bad apple furries. Such traits include rezzing penii in the middle of sims, having sex in the middle of sims, using lol as a period, need to cause drama about anything, constantly replaying very very annoying wavs, spawning laggy explosives, running around naked with bits attached, having fire/vehicle fights where they shouldn't, spawning furry 'art', and utter disrespect for anyone that isn't a furry.
My bad run-ins probably isn't limited to bad luck. Being part of the Ginko Sims where most of our employees are furries, some furries decide its a furry only community and that they can get away with breaking the rules we set and harrassing humans that come in. I know all furries aren't like this, being that alot of our residents and ginko employees don't go into this behaviour, as well as some of my good friends in SL. But maybe this will explain why some people have problems with furries.

Replace "furry" with "goth" or "vampire" or "cyberpunk" or "military" or whatever, and your complaint makes just as much sense.

Or rather, not true for myself anyways. No goth, vampire, military, or whatever has come to the Ginko sims or any other sim that I've been to {that wasn't goth, vampire, or military sim} and started to do what they do in their own sims with their own group members to random people. No vampire has ever come up to me and shot me with a watermelon canon and go "opps lol", nor has any goth rezzed penises or erotica in the middle of our street. I know those groups do some socially unaccecptable things as well, but from my expirences, they keep it to their own sims or events that concern them. The bad apple furries on the otherhand tend to do their bad apple'n anywhere they please.

But maybe this will explain why some people have problems with furries. I have to agree. I don't particularly want to see the care-bears screwing eachother (and thanks to Furnation, I have.) I do notice that some furries have a sort of a superiority complex, where they feel that being a furry makes them more nelightened than most. At one point I was harrassed for not being a furry in Nexus Prime. That is to say I was harrassed in a non-furry sim (my home) by a furry for not being a furry. Granted it's a rare occassion but it's not a rare sentiment that i've noticed. There is something of a segregation of Furry and everyone else, and part of this is put on by furries themselves. Who set up these furry only places or furry-mostly places that look down on anyone who's not. I'm not saying all furries are like that, again. I'm saying that that's the idea I get from a lot of the furries I see.
