You don't hear it from the majority of people inside SL, so your outside sources may be biased.

My opinion is that they make more free accounts.

Like every classified group in RL, most of them are cool and they get a bad rap because of preconceived notions based on prejudices from "outsiders" or because of a "few bad apples" within said group.

I've heard rumors that on their side of the monitor, they're people just like everyone else.

And (needless) repeat-play forum drama.

Aimee <--- Techncially half furry.

While Second Life is rich landscape filled with vastly different personality types, I haven't noticed fur (or gender, or hair color, or race, or sexual orientation, etc.) to be any sort of indicator for personality.

There are nice ones, mean ones, boring ones, crazy ones, sensitive ones ... just like people.

I mean, i'm a furry and it seems people either have biased views of furries. I'm just wondering how everyone feels about it.

Well... some people just think furries are a bunch of pervs and weirdos because you don't want to look similar to the way you do in RL (human av). My hubby is a furry in game - but does go human from time to time. He explained to me why - "This is Second Life, why do I want to be human here?" Makes sense to me - after all, in other MMOG's you are not limited to being human, and I don't think there is such... prejudice against people who choose to be trolls, orcs, or whatever.

So with the addition of free basic accounts and more furries joining SL more forum drama occurs ?

I guess the whole furry community being bashed by people whos only source of information of furries was from that CSI episode explains most problems occuring.

Correlation does not imply causality. :p

Seriously, though, despite the forum "debates," SL as a whole seems pretty friendly to furries much in the same way it is to any other online community. The landscape has become one large melting pot for many niche cultures - and, despite the hostility of the forums, most residents seem pretty friendly to that sort of thing.

Furries are just like anyone else. You have good and bad ones. I personally know furries who would give you the shirt of thier back and I know humans in game who wouldn't throw a rope to a drowning man. There is a human being on the other side of the screen. It dosn't matter what the avatar looks like. I go by what kind of person they are and not what kind of costume they are wearing.

i personally dont have any issue weather someone dresses up their av like a fox or whatever, but if there is a rap about them, the only time i see negitive behaviour is when i TP into a furry land sim, most of the time theres nothing, but once in a while ill ask a question like "anyone know where this furry av biulding class is" and its like i dont exist, even in the middle of a large group.

course this can happen in any place with any group, its part of human nature

Its too broad a group to say "furries are good!!" or "furries are bad!"..

Its not like its a singular group in SL with a few members..

I haven't had any bad experiences with furries myself and thats all I can say.

I think the different groups should be more involved with each other. Reminds me of segragation.

I propose the bussing of non-furries to furry-moderated learning events.

I've noticed the same thing in my adventures, and I noticed that there seems to be a definite unspoken seperation between the two... however, I have noticed as well that most of the time, that line can be completely shattered apart, and those who have fur or scaled avitars can mingle with human avitars without a care in the world. The biggest culprit of the silence tends to be on the furred side, but if people (including me) learn to get out of their confort zones, they can meet a lot of cool people out there.
