I like Cristiano and feel he is an asset to the community and my vote is in no way a reflection of his stand up character.

With that said, the policy is pretty clear. You can not publicaly publish exploits. If he did not get suspended, it would just re-enforce myths of a favored group of people in SL. This is one way LL can prove, there is no one above the TOS.
I agree, but ironically, the existence of this very thread proves that there are people that are above the TOS.

*looks at OP*

He didn't publish exploits, he published a /notice/ of exploits.

Hell, as far as I know O'Reilly still has hacks for SL on their site and LL was supporting it, right down to the texture interception.

I tend to agree that full disclosure of SL exploits should be restricted to SL staffers, at least until they've had a "reasonable" period in which to fix said exploit.

Posting warnings about said exploits and preventative measures residents can take should be encouraged in the fullest way possible.

However I think next time Cris discovers an exploit he'll post about it (under an alt) on his own forums.

Driving away / Banning however temporary, the more technically gifted and civic minded of SL Residents is not a long term fruitful policy.

I would like to know one fact. A question answerable by just yes or no.

Did CrisMid include the full procedure of the exploit? (Intention, additional text, OP, or quote notwithstanding)

He says no, and that also accords with my memory of the post. As I recall it, he did about as much as we did with the texture exploit.

He didn't publish an exploit. He warned about one.

I think the next time *anyone* discovers an exploit they will keep quiet about it, and let the Lindens discover it for themselves two months later.

Thanks. I had to ask because I did not see any post anywhere that excplicitly stated that the procedure was not included. All I saw were "he was warning us" posts.

Assuming now that his post had no details. It begs the question, what was the precise reason for the suspension?

Does anyone have that information stated as fact?

What I'm trying to find out here is if he in fact did not violate the TOS. My question is not about the penalty, it's about the violation itself.

Truth be told I really want to hear official word on the case from the Lindens. Thing is I also understand privacy policies regarding the matter. :(

I am unhappy with the way things are turning out since just looking at who voted which way the issue is dividing the residents and it's also putting friction between residents and LL.

Sadly that's a fact too. However it's not in LL's best interest to invoke that in this case if there was a miscall.

That provision is a catchall in the event of new unforseen problems, it is not good to use it for a miscall, if in case this was one.

Signed in favor of Cris.
As far as I am concerned he was performing a service to the community.
WHEN exactly were we going to be informed of the exploit otherwise?!
No time soon I imagine.

Has everyone heard that posting SL exploits in the forums is a bad idea? It's highly frowned upon and should never be done? If it is done...does everyone know now what is going to happen to them?

I have nothing against this guy, he seems to be well liked, does good for the community, etc. but it seems in all his goodness and upstandingness and high intelligence, he could of made a choice to get this information to the Lindens without posting it to the forums, where it can do maximum harm. He could of done it a good handful of other ways actually and still gotten the same information out, he made a bad decision in posting it to the LL forums, and I hear the Lindens loud and clear about how they feel about it. I certainly will think twice or find a different way of communicating that infomation if I had information like that from here on out.

He didn't post HOW TO DO IT, just that it EXISTED.

Shall I put it in semaphore next? Perform interpretive dance? What?
