I have to say I don't agree with this. The chat is part of what he paid for, and therefore it cannot be regarded as personal or private. To me there is a great deal of difference between recording a conversation you paid for and something that was said to you in private.

I think he has been providing a legitimate service, as have been the escorts he documents.

I suppose I am confused due to a lack of well-structured information on what sl-escorts IS and why you feel they may be worthy of a ban.

I am ASSUMING...based on near no information given...that sl-escorts does not offer escort services but is merely styling itself as a "consumer report" site dealing with esccort services offered by other people and places in SL? Is this correct?

ASSUMING I am correct on what sl-escorts even does, and ASSUMING you therefore feel it is an unethical violation of the escort employees privacy and the operation of the clubs' business...I will hazard a few comments.

First...it is truly unlikely that the creator of sl-escorts really desired or intended to offer a genuine "Escort Consumer Report" for SL residents to use to pick better escort businesses for their money. More likely, the creator designed the site based on voyeouristic desires and with the intent to titillate and capitalize off the sexual nature of the comments. Inversely it could have been done from some perverse hatred of women and sexuality (weither from religious views or other sources) with an intent to embarrass and shame those involved in this business in SL.

However...the motivation of the creator is not truly relevant to examining the ethics or legality of what sl-escorts does.

If a business offers a product in the public arena, it is of course opening itself to poptential crticisms and product review. In SL escort services and virtual sex for money is not illegal nor a ToS violation...and thus a legitimate business. It thus is also open to criticism, review, and the same sorts of examinations as any other business or product. Thus the concept of reviewing these escorts services is not in anyway ilegal or a ToS violation, nor ethically wrong...IMHO.

If an individual in SL is working publically for a company, club, or service provider in SL to offer escort services for money or tips....they have forfiet ant rights to privacy. The customer has right to record the text, take snaphots, and if they so wish review the service positively or negetively like any other business or product...unless the escort service has explicitly barred such activities as recordings, snapshots, etc and the customer has agreed to those terms in a contactual agreement. (In the later case, the customer has forfiet voluntarily their right to review publically the service offered and is legally bound by that agreement not to). Thus any escort of an open business must expect their text and images to possibly be made public at some point by a client. There is no right to privacy in offering public services unless the customer has agreed to forfiet their rights in a contract beforehand.

Now...the sticky point comes the first time someone uses sl-escorts to post pictures, information or text about someones sexual acyivities that is not and has not been involved in an open escort business. Yes...I have had virtual sex in second life, as have many. Yet, I have never worked for any club or company as an escort or dancer (or as anything actually) and have never taken any form of money or tips for sex. My sexual partners are lovers...not clients or customers. I offer no sexual products or services. Thus I am not open to review and do have a legal right to privacy. Should one of my lovers recorded our sexual text and taken snapshots and then use them to "review" me or expose and embrass me on sl-escorts...both the lover and sl-escorts are responsibile and open to litigation and punishment. This has been held up in courts time and time again (in the US at least).

I do not know sl-escorts or the details of their practices or what safeguards they have to prevent private citizens from being embarrassed and exposed to ridicule by unethical former lovers. But, the base concept of reviewing open business escorts is valid...so long as all safeguards exst to limit the use of sl-escorts to ONLY escorts and those providing services in the public market.

All this is hypothetical, as little actual infortmation was given by the poster about the business or about their own reasons for the post.
