Greetings!

This is just a small note to the community at large letting everyone know that the SLCC 2006 registration is now open! Details on the Convention, the specific location, San Francisco in general, hotels, and the agenda are all available here:

http://www.SLConvention.org/

Big thanks go out to our early sponsors who's signed on board: Linden Lab, The Electric Sheep Company, Nomine, and Luskwood. Interested in sponsorship? Contact me. :-)

I hope y'all can make it - it should be a lot of fun. :)

Regards,

-Flip

I've been chastised for posting to that forums before, as its really for smaller, less formally organized events (such as gatherings at a bar). A lot of the forum regular crowd pays no attention to that section, and I've been asked by many to post important notices here to ensure no one misses things. :) The biggest yearly SL gather is definitely "of interest to the general community".

Besides, you're just being a wise arse! Clever trousers.

zOMG I am a clever trousers. I tried using the actual SLCC group forum, but apparently no one actually reads it or even bothers looking there for info.

hahahaha

Best ever.

I'm tempted to go. I'm torn between doing SLCC or an adventure that would let me meet a bunch of women.

Decisions.

Although if I hit up SLCC, I get to have drinks with Maxx and that would rock.

Linden Lab is the Main Sponsor of this convention?

Then that does make it an official Linden thing.

What do you mean they sponsored it? They are giving money to it? Giving money or travel expenses to come to it? I seem to remember last year some people were sponsored for travel expenses, maybe by other residents, I don't recall.

Do they ever sponsor anyone else? I figure they probably agreed to sponsor you, as yours is the most likely thing to take off and get the most visitors and repeat each year.

What is the cap on attendance this year? I seem to remember that last year it was 245 or something, due to reasons I don't recall, but I could be remembering that wrong.

Linden sponsorship covers a wide array of things like Philip and Cory for a presentation, the land for the in-world stuff, LL schwag like t-shirts etc. So its not just hard currency sponsorship.

I think the cap on attendance is around 500ish.

They're actually the Lead Sponsor - semantics. We need to fix that header. :)

I disagree pretty strongly with this statement; I believe LL would as well. Linden Lab sponsored the State of Play Conference last year. That's not an official Linden thing. Linden Lab sponsored Neualtenberg. That definitely wasn't an official Linden thing. Linden Lab sponsors the Friends of the Urban Forest project in San Francisco. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't ever describe that as a Linden thing. Remember that they also have the Linden Lab Incubator Program in which any resident with a large project can apply for sponsorship support and funds from Linden Lab, as long as its related to Second Life (like the SLCC is). If people put together well-organized proposals, I've most often seen Linden Lab willing to take a strongly supportive role. Don't forget the US$4000 Fellowship they gave to a young artist. Linden Lab provided support and resources - even in the form of financial support - definitely has many precendents.

Last year's cap was 160, which we hit. The room was quite full. This year we've gotten a much bigger room which can handle about 450, possibly 500 depending on how we set it up. Its a theater style room with nice, plush comfy chairs. :)

Hope you can make it!

Thanks for explaining, Flip. No, I didn't know about an incubator program, which was before my time, and which seems to be/have been largely concerned with loans. I doubt anyone from my time even knows they ever had this thing, if they still do.

However, it was interesting to see that even before my time, people talked on the forums in the same way they do now: "if you don't have something to say about the Incubator program then stfu did you understand that part. Quit talking out the sides of your mouth and move on to trolling the next thread sheesh."

Ha ha. Must be a longstanding tradition.

OK, so it is not an official Linden thing - it sounds more like if I decided to donate to the Red Cross, and to Unicef, or whatever, because I consider them worthy causes. So - LL gives money to projects they like. Except it's not always an outside thing they have an interest in, such as the State of Play conference, but also sometimes something limited pretty much to SL, such as a group of residents getting together in the SLCC or a group of residents in a Sim, such as Neualtenberg?

And the fellowship thing seems to be a pretty straightforward fellowship thing.

If it isn't an official LL thing, it is definitely something that is the LL promoted thing. Sponsored, and supported thing. And the only such thing which can be posted in General as far as I can tell.

So, did you get LL funds to put on this conference this year? Last year?

I'm in agreement that I wouldn't call the event an official Linden event, though I could see how easy one could assume the convention was something it's not.

Sorta like how the word 'Community' in SLCC has no meaning either.

a little whine here, a little whine there..

people are trying to do an awesome thing for other people. that's the gist of this whole shebang.. dig?

this year is more community driven than last year. that's good. smile and know that next year will see even more community involvement. maybe even including where it will be held.. either in singular or multiple.

LL sponsers stuff they like. good, people who put their money where their mouth is.. sounds like a commendable thing to me. and they (Linden moderators) agree to keep a couple SLCC announcements in General.. why? because it's of interest to the whole of SL.. as in "SL related". you know.. what General is actually for?? so yeah.. it's a GOOD thing!

i, for one (or two, depends on how you look at it), am enthralled to see how far the SLCC has evolved from last year to this.. amazing work being done! (is Cybin doing nametags again? and if he is, can we expect him to be just a *tad* more timely this year?!?)

just make sure to leave a space open for that purpley/ultra-violet weird ass guru-wanna-be.. he'll be crushed if he doesn't make it this year. (trust me.. if ANYone knows this, it's me! ;))

Such a keen and intense curiosity! I can't imagine the motivation.

Well, then, Flipper, let's hear it. Tell us all about it. While you're at it, let's hear boxers or briefs, top or bottom, latex or polyurathane, Crispix or Cracklin' Oat Bran and... for bonus points, let's get an accounting of every five minutes of your activities today, starting from this morning when you awoke.

And...

Go.
