And conflict of interest or not, SL being slashdotted is a good thing no matter who's delivering the good news. ( assuming it IS good news and not horrible news, like LL going bankrupt or something like that.)

And damn, usaully the messenger is shot for delivering bad news, not good news. x_X

Well I did try looking up the original post that my post was in response to.

The reference I read basicaly said the above was jibberish. Just as my stupid reply.

I guess if ppl want to start speaking in tongues, don't expect me to look up ever "other" meaning. To what they might of meant to say. What a waste of time. Perhaps I am wrong in expecting adults to act as such.

As our hobby has grown over the years, it has developed its own good-time language of description, analysis and slander. The following list of roleplaying terms was compiled by a group of dinosaurs and a wanker (see dinosaur, wanker). It is not definitive. The wanker did a rough draft and it was a bit of a dog's breakfast, so he called a devil's advocate meeting with some dinosaurs and they hosed it down and turned it into a respectable pizza (see dog's breakfast, devil's advocate, hose, pizza). There is an unconfirmed rumour that a SMOG has seen and approved this list (see SMOG). This rumour is denied by GOODSHOT (see GOODSHOT).

This Glossary is partial and incomplete. Because it attempts to document a living, growing and creative subculture, it will always be partial and incomplete. What it does document is Australian roleplaying's development and unique brand of self-depreciating humour. Submissions, feedback and alternative definitions are always welcome.

Catharsis
In drama and roleplaying, the pleasurable release of emotion accompanied by insight or self-realisation. 'Cathartic' modules are a roleplaying type, the mainstay of Systemless Gaming. Catharsis may be immediate (within the module) or occur afterwards as a player reflects on the experience and their reaction to it.
Catharsis is treated by roleplayers with proper respect and seriousness, hence the popular phrases, 'Cathart me gently with a chainsaw', and 'Who catharted?'. (See Angst).

Angst
Also known as Sturm und Drang (storm and stress). In roleplaying, a module exploring existential anxiety, guilt or remorse. Angst modules grew out of the realisation that a good cathart is hard to come by, and that catharsis every three hours during a roleplaying convention is just too hard on everyone. (See Catharsis).

Thanks for the kind sentiments, but here's the thing: it really wasn't me getting slashdotted at all, in the slightest. I was posting about it to congratulate some fellow citizens (yes, they're friends of mine, and colleagues) who've done some cool work, because slashdotting is a big deal, even if just for us geeks and nerds.

The Happening has been in planning since long before I had any affiliation whatsoever with the Electric Sheep Company. I've had nothing to do with any planning on it, and have done no work thus far on any Electric Sheep projects (excluding SLBoutique, obviously!). I'm going to help host the event over the weekend on the Sheep Island sim, which, for the record, I saw yesterday for the first time, after many others had already seen it. The congratulations here really have nothing to do with me, and should be instead given to the core Electric Sheep team! Thanks for the kind thoughts though!

This is all the biggest bunch of bullshit I have personally ever heard. There are people in this thread who should be ashamed of themselves.

So there are Rl in Sl companysl ike Electric Sheep and Now Infinite Visions that are dedicated to bridging the gap between RL and Sl and doing arts events or edu events , or god forbid use the Sl platform to create immersive and enriching branded entertainment for the Sl masses. And imagine that, they both, ES and now IV, have found a way to actually earn money while enriching all of our experiences and bringing some stability to the sl platform by bringing corp america into it a postive way

I say - stop your whining and enjoy the event and look forward with great pleasure to what comes next.

Ppl change their minds, opinons change. Commercialism? I could care less, it does not affect what I do in SL. However the connection between flip and Satchmo is very clear, of course flip is supportive. Of course it's wrong for a ResMod to use the forums for their own personal gain. So far however I don't see that my posts vanished for speaking my mind about the placement of this announcement. So all is well enough so far. Not everyone thinks commercialism is the next best thing, lets at least try to pretend that those ppl's opinions also count. Instead of discounting anyone ok. Do I think commercialism is fantastic for SL? Nope. Look how the bush guy used his billboards as a weapon. Not commercial? Well he just happened to be selling his land at the same time.

The Community Standards' Intolerance section says "The use of derogatory or demeaning language or images in reference to another Resident's race, ethnicity, gender, religion, or sexual orientation is never allowed in Second Life." but it's not enforced with regard to female or male, assuming that gender includes biological sex.

It's part of the same sexist omnirpresent background that produces error messages that say "Abort or Retry?" without the slightest idea that to a good percent of the world, the word abort means something other than stop or quit.

Yes cat/martin I sure do. And as such I bet you will enjoy the entertainment arts edu and immersive branded experiences IV and EC provide . All I am saying is dont shoot the providers for doing a good job. We arent evil or out to use the system we are out to make money by making Sl better and harnessing the power of web 3D. We dont ask you say thanks we just want ( and I seak for only we here not the electric sheep) to have you stop downing us and looking for places to say we are doing something wrong
