Getting on slashdot is pretty big news, Cat. In fact, if you look at Ezhar's old page of how many avatars joined per day, early slashdot coverage of Second Life meant a boon or new accounts. Its how I started SLing, for one!

I don't know, Martin. It's all getting so incestuously entangled it's hard to tell where anything belongs anymore.
After all, Satchmo is director of Professional Services at Electric Sheep. He's also a forum resmod, who took some time to explain to me why it's okay for some people to curse out others on the forums, noting that he himself doesn't get "that personally attached to the forums." And added that if enough people had a problem with me availing myself of the same right, then he would put the thread up for Linden review. For anyone interested in some of the activities of the Electric Sheep company, they include: . "As a consulting group, we seek to help organizations find ways to use Second Life to realize their business, educational, and marketing goals." Which I take it to mean, they charge organizations for helping them set up their projects in SL. . "We are working with Linden Lab on developing tools for more sophisticated search within Second Life, and we have independently created or begun to create several tools enabling search for different aspects of Second Life, including Second Life web pages, Second Life in-world content, and Second Life chat." Which I take to mean, they working in conjunction with and contracted by SL for profit to create tools for SL, in addition to creating things on their own time. They are "a small and growing business based in Washington, D.C.," by which I assume they mean they are a real-life, for profit business, separate from SL. And one of them is a resmod, charged with the authority to ride herd on the rest of us, and explain why the rules sometimes apply and sometimes don't. Makes sense to me. Conflict of interest is the least of LL's concerns. In fact, the company policy seems to be based on a system of neopotism, and "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours." Coco, I'm sorry some people called you names in the past, but I don't see where you're going with your post. At all. Besides trying to bring attention to it again. Part of being an adult is sucking up the fact that not everyone is going to like you, some of those people are going to say stuff that hurts your feelings, and move on with your life, as opposed to trying to - hell, I don't know exactly what you ARE trying to do in your post - find a conspiracy theory behind it? Satchmo is one of many ResMods. What he does inside SL or in RL, or how they combine - well, I don't see the connection between that and how your feelings get hurt by a few people on the forums. Anyway, good job ES, you've put a lot of hard work into this and into your professional endeavors in SL, and congrats on the recognition. _____________________

Hrmmm. Well, I can see where Coco is coming from with the whole corporate interest vs. public service issue. With ResMods having the ability to lock or move threads on the basis of their subjective interpretation of the TOS/CS, it DOES seem a bit like having the McDonald's director of advertising moonlighting for the FCC.
"This Burger King commercial is completely inappropriate for television!! Show less peverted burgers next time!" However, I see this as a more abstract issue rather than one involving Satchmo or Electric Sheep. This topic should definitely be explored in one of the ResMod related threads, but THIS thread should be about celebrating the AWESOME success of Electric Sheep which I think is a good thing for all of us. _____________________

If, by that, you mean people who walk into a thread, victim complexes a-blazin', trying to make it about themselves, I would have to agree with your suspicion. Why should such feeble, self-centered prattling be even remotely of concern when there's amazing news of a Slashdotting? Anyone who delivers a Slashdotting to Linden Lab gives the company unestimable traffic, attention and other PR juice. Which means more customers for me.  Bravo, ES!_____________________

Thanks for the congrats all, I'm far more excited about the actual event then the slashdotting. Party = Good! Just a reminder to anyone in the area who wants to attend, I'm throwing an after-party at my pad.
I'll leave the resmod'ing to one of the other 5 (+Lindens) who also have the responsibility beacuse clearly there is a conflict of interest. Just like Torley would never be expected to participate in anything relating to Jade. Though I'll note, SL related news is usually posted in general. Do a search on "[ARTICLE]" _____________________
