It seems that the trend of pushing shoddy, half thought out functionality out the door quickly for no apparent reason did not end with the inventory window problems. After all kinds of assurances that they have an improved development process and quality testing, we have the single worst update since version 1.5. How is this progress, honestly? I am all for saying thank you and praising the Lindens when they do something right, but this complete mess of an update is fucking inexcuseable. To highlight the severity of what is wrong:

* An estate tool bug that allowed all scripted items in the sim to be inadvertantly returned, destroying the sim (at least they have resolved this quickly).

* An eyedropper tool that allows content theft. While not at first apparent how to do this, it is actually quite easy.

* A bug that causes group members to become officers, exposing the group to having their land sold and builds destroyed.

* A widely panned new snapshot tool that is a giant step backward in usability. It seems time was put into adding stupid, nauseating effects and flashy features like a Matrix-freeze frame zoom system, but that no thought was given to how people actually use snapshots or to hiding any of the complexity at all. You can no longer take a series of snapshots in rapid succession until you get the right picture, something that you could easily do before.

* A gratuitous change in the way the enter key behaves with the chat window, causing people to jump in the air because the chat window is unexpectedly closed

* Script problems that broke existing objects.

* A texture picker that now makes it extremely difficult to actually apply textures to objects. Again, a giant usability step backward (though you did get the bonus of being able to steal any texture).

* Pointless UI changes like detachable menus and changes to pie menus so that they fade in.

There is probably a lot more, but this list is enough. There are several show stopping, serious bugs on the list. I recognize the complexity of updating SL at this point, but there is absolutely no excuse for the poor quality of this update. We as customers deserve better than this, and Linden Lab should be ashamed for shoving this out the door so quickly without more extensive testing. God help us with the 1.12 update, which has dramatic changes to group functionality. If it is treated as poorly as 1.11 was, then who knows what will be broken.

Philip Linden has talked extensively about Linden Lab's development process, and how they use a system called the Love Machine. Note to Philip: it's not fucking working. You can't just let people do what they want on a whim, but apparently, that is how the development is handled. A Magic 8 ball would be more effective at this point. I know there are all kinds of improvments that SL needs and that it is a balancing act trying to figure out what to do next and what the priorities are, but there is a single priority that is more important than anything else: STOP BREAKING THINGS THAT ALREADY WORKED FINE. Until you can figure that one out, perhaps you should hold off of wasting time on detachable menus and gee-wiz camera effects. The customers of Linden Lab deserve better than the Russian Roulette updates you keep shoving out the door in rapid succession.

I must sadly admit I am in complete agreement concerning this update. The ratio of bugs to features is the worst I have ever seen...and more than that, the severity of the bugs is astounding to me. These issues have a high potential to have long ranging effects on SL as a whole if not corrected immediately...and I definately mean IMMEDIATELY.

I can't defend LL this time.

You guys seriously f'ed up on this one.

Edit: Please, just roll back the update. Don't try to fix it; there's nothing in it really worth saving. Just trash it. Please.

LL stop adding new stuff for now, and just fix all the bugs we have. All you are doing is adding more new bugs, and trash

Given how well their development and deployment works, I'd be a bit surprised if they could rollback a version even if they wanted to.

You forgot client crashes from right clicking on an avaitar IM them. Also, there has been a report that right click pay is going to the wrong person on some occasions.

And Huns Valen's quite correct post in the Hotline to Linden or whatever it's called these days about sim crossings being knackered - even flying with no vehicle can send you spiralling off into the great unknown.

I notice their response to that was quick and detailed, yet they remain dead silent on the user-unfriendly snapshots, the pointless shrinking pie menus, and the tons of bugs.

Ow. How many items are going to have to have a llDie() script added?

Starax,

One potential solution (not a pretty one, alas) is to change the higher prim items to normal with die scripts in them. I'm not happy about this particular change either. :(

Seconded. I know people scream every update about how bad it is, but I've been here since 1.5 and this is literally the worst update I've experienced. I've never personally felt appalled by a major released before.

Count me in on this one. I design UI for a living and these changes both decrease usability and increase user frustration. Do you actually fly any of these "shiny" ideas past users first before even developing them for preview?

If you asked even one clothing designer about the snapshot freeze & flash BS they could have told you BAD IDEA! At least you finally let us turn off the HUD in snapshot.

I've told you since version 1.6, but did you listen? Ohhhh nono, it's just a tiny little bunny, isnt' it..
Ahem, sorry, about that , but the facts remain.

STOP Linden from implementing more useless features and FIX the GOD DAMN BUGS !
Vote for proposition 700
and show that you care. Not voting just give Linden the wrong message and they'll thing we're happy campers.
And I have been telling you that since 1.6, actually !

VOTE for #700

I've been saying shut the gate to new 'shinies' and put ALL the developers on fixing bugs since before 1.9. But no, I was a 'whiner.'

Just a harmless li'l bunny isn't it?

Sadly, I have to agree. Roll back the update, ditch this version, and put it back into development! The new snapshot procedure is a pain, and putting out a feature that allows easier theft is inexcusable. 1.11 must die.

Agreed. I have been upset by certain changes and problems before brought by an update, but I can't ever remember being so fundamentally disgusted by an update. People will always find something to complain about, but in this case, it is not about that, it is about the unbelivably poor quality of this update. I have never advocated a rollback before, and I doubt it is even possible, but going back to 1.10 is preferrable - there is nothing that was added in this update that outweighs the negative effects.
