Well they are in a no win situation with 95% of the people in this thread. They say anything they get ate alive for it, they say nothing they get ate alive for it. Following that train of thought your damned if you do, damned if you don't.

My business interests real life wouldn't be classified as "small"

I'll be happy to anti up the 1K after Christmas. I believe giving presents to other people in the spirit of the season is >> owning virtual land. Just for the record I have no problem paying 50 dollars more a month.

if you dont mind paying the extra 50 dollars / month then what are you doing here?? were you paid by LL to kiss their A** or you just love to be where you get insulted lol ????

Open Spaces - Educational Use
11-07-2008 11:47
I am assuming that educational and non-profit customers will continue to receive the discount rate? I, and probably many others, did not budget for any increase.

I am sure that you will provide the specific guidelines? You offered these spaces 1t 3750 prims. One cannot exceed this, so I assume everyone is in conpliance here? I am about 700 to 800 under.

Certainly my avatar usage is shear minimal.

Linden, please be thoroughly clear in the process on which you are about to embar.

I still do not understand how much folks are exceeding? They cannot be exceeding the prim limit. I am not sure about the script linit. As far as avatars, I would venture to say that only very few of the Open Spaces are "loaded" with avatars at any point in time.

I have realised we should stop complaining, it is counter productive.

1. LL decides to raise price of opensim by 67%
2. We object
3. LL offers to keep price of opensim the same, but reduce prims by 75%

Notice a pattern?

I would formally like to introduce the newest linden product... the RC sim RC for Rollercoasters

1k usd for 4 1875 prims 75 mo

415 usd for one 3750 prims 75 mo

250 usd each 3750 prims 75 mo

375 usd each 3750 prims 125mo

375 usd 750 prims 75/mo

375 usd 3750 125 mo

WWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE barf

if im wrong on my numbas just change it in your mind....it's not hard to do........

I agree. That's the reason I have my store in the sky. It's less laggy up there. A normal island would be much better, of course and I've considered it quite a few times. I could easily afford it but, since the business does well where it is, I've seen no reason to increase the costs.

Yes, LL would like to drive everyone to skyboxes over an infested and laggy mainland. How nicely that compares to those landscaped islands.

From: Mephistopheles McMinnar

Gaming and camping on a OS? Not the best idea Bella, because both are heavy in scripts. Thats it what LL means, that you CAN use OS otherwise, but not recommended, because heavy script usage will decrease the performance drastically, not for you only, also for the other 3 SIMs on the same core.
.....
As example I've rented a 5120sqm spot with 2342 prims for my business (additional information: this SIM has a prim bonus 2.0) and i pay round about 16k/month for it. I'm sure it's a grandfathered SIM but here are still some spots free. I'm also sure that you can find other full SIMs with a good neighbourhood and lower prices, anything is possible.

Surely that depends on how many campers and what gaming?
There is nothing wrong with running theset things on OS's as long as you are responsible and keep it relative to the capacity you have ... which is anyway going to now be 'enforced' by homesteads processing limits.

As for your 5120 spot ... just wait till those other spots fill up, then comment about the lag.

Theoretically the same content hosted on a full sim vs it spread out over 4 OS's should be similar. In fact I would suspect the OS's to handle it better ... as there is sim boundaries between the spread-out content thus your business is not as "affected" by your neighbors (who are possible not even on your OS). Sure their scripts still run on the same CPU (as they would on the full sim anyway), but theres loads of processing not taking place just because they're not in the same sim (most of the physics will be clipped which is a massive load). And even those IN the same sim would be 4 times further away ... so much of their content will be 'clipped' by your customers SL client viewer.

What about the VAT
11-07-2008 11:54
Great price hike...take it up to 125usd a month....then what about us in europe...ADD 17.5% VAT and we have got to pay $146 a month.....well for just over double that we can get a full 15000 prim sim...dont know how you work your prices out but you are screwing us in europe and i for one wont be able to afford the new prices.....
So where do we go from here.
I wonder if the open space idea has got out of hand and this is LL way of getting some back??

Hello Mr.Jack Linden Please be careful.
11-07-2008 11:58
It is broken when you took the script restrictions
which is not in proportion to the division.

It is a "Hello Avator!" nightmare making reservations rushingly.
The script which waits though anybody do not use it.
Please think well.

Had better I admit HugePrim use to our residents at Homesteads?
I lose a customer in a raise by your mistake. Though I make an effort hard.

Please increase the number of Prim with a raise price.
There should be little influence that Prim gives. What do you hate?
I talk with a residents hard and devote myself to improvement.

Do you continue the talks that still contradicted it?
There is not it, and lend the server in the land.

=============================================
PLAN-A: Privare Region Server $295/month 15000Prims/Region
PLAN-B:HomeseadsX4 Server $295/month 3750Prims/Region
PLAN-C:Openspace X8 Server $295/month 1875Prims/Regon
=============================================
An answer is this. Is it different?
Please deny it.

As for Jack Linden and M Linden, it is not answered
even if I write this suggestion how many times.
It is because this suggestion is rational, and Linden Lab is not profitable.

When did Linden Lab put 8-16Openspaces in 1Server?
Your promise is 4 Openspaces.
Liden Lab said LIGHT USE.But Linden Lab heavy use own server.

The numerical value of the CPU is a theory value.
Were not there the professional of the network, the thing of a server?
The times to lend land are over. Is fair; want to contract.

New OS lite will not work for sailing community
11-07-2008 11:59
Somewhere above Aquarius Paravane observed that the new OS structure should work for sailing. Unfortunately the 10 avatar limit means that is far from the case.

The sailing community conducts many sailboat races on a weekly basis. It is not unusual for those races to field 8-12 boats and more. Add to the boats a few ride-alongs, a judge, and typically a few spectators and you can see the issue. But it's worse that that. For example in the United Sailing Sims we have 130 sims of which about 110 are OS. Thats a large enough area that even while a race is taking place there are always plenty of other boats out just crusing around. It is not at all unsual for a random crusing boat to end up sailing into a sim where boats are racing. Every time that happend with these new OS sims the races would be ruined with boats bouncing into full sim messages.

OS sims have been the backbone of the sailing communities hosting of long races that are realistic and more than just pushing a rubber duck around an island. The redefined openspace sim will kill sailboat racing.

This decision if allowed to stand would take what was originally see as a great way to open up SL to a more realistic outdoor enviroment and replace it with a product which while called OPEN space will in reality be the most RESTRICTIVE spaces in SL.

We think The Homestead idea works. But the Open space solution will kill what the SL sailing community has worked a very long time to establish.

On a related topic, we have in the United sailing sims the only viable full sized golf course, Holly Kai Golf Club (clubhouse in Hollywood sim). The 750 prim limits are inadequate to populate the 18 holes of golf with realistic landscaoping. We would have to drop back to linden trees. W are not going to spend 75USD per month times six sims to put out a product that looks like Mainland 1.0.

You still get a discount but you're getting a price rise. There's a link to the knowledgebase article detailing this in the blog post but here's info on pricing:

"Educational Homesteads setup is $262.00, $66.50/month for January 09 onwards and then $87.50 per month from July 09."

The setup cost will only apply for a new sim so don't worry about that for existing sims.

It's the server. They put the limits in the server because when they were in the client people took advantage of that to make megaprims. :)

Well let me rephrase it then:

Let the Clients (aka Customers) create larger prims, then that may, very slightly, soften the blows that they have received in this current debacle.

Anyhow, I was just quoting and agreeing with Broccoli's suggestion. The point however it gets sliced, diced and dissected, is if you only have 750 prims to work with, it'd be vastly helpful to be able to make our own megaprims as needed. I'm aware that there are a godzilian premade ones out there. I'd prefer to just build the one I want when I want it, rather than root around looking and hoping there's already one that meets my needs.

And finally: I am not saying this should be restricted to OS sims or OS owners, let everyone do it.

They could open more divisions in other areas. Or do more work inside Second Life... what Microsoft calls "eating their own dogfood".

Totally agree.

The thought of jack linden implementing a script count feature has me about as comfortable as an egg falling down the stairs.

The prim to land is already a useless meter system ( go cory!). To add a simple script "count" would double the stupidity. I wouldn't let jack program my vcr. In fact I don't think he's even capable of planning lunch. What exactly are his credentials? Why does the lab allow him to stick his giant thumbs in things time and again?

I wont even ask what M does. It' obvious his duty is to post a day dream to the blog every 4 to 8 weeks.

I dumped my OS after M's waste of words. Still have a c4 and c5. Now i spend my time giving soapbox speaches about how LL love to take their customers from behind..repeatedly...to anyone who will listen. go go viral marketing.

LL are the winners of the enterwebz.

I know your USS Region. It is a good place.
Linden lab destroys your land. I worry from last month.

I proposed Oceanspace(Not Openspace).
1000Prims,25Agent Limit,And 100Scripts.
However, it was ignored me. I am disappointed.
There is no division division. A rental is put under ban.
This idea was a thing for USS.

I love our lands,and your lands,too.
Let's fight together.

At some point Jack said that there were very few edu/nonprofit os sims and that those owners should contact him or concierge about it.

One nonprofit person posted that they talked to Linden and their rate was going to stay the same during their budget year and then change.

I don't know the facts so I would encourage you to talk directly to Concierge about it.

Did Someone Say They Would Talk ?

Well I am assuming Jack will have logged off some time ago as it is now 10pm UK time. So it is now up to you Mark. to stop hiding in the shadows and answer some of these questions. Your week long hard think about things, to me looks exactly like a re-hash of the original message with an extra overpriced (per prim) new Openspace that will not be useable by any of your existing "ideal" clientelle except for pure landscaping at an unacceptable price.

I'm also rather confused why you are here. Apart from talking down to everyone and appearing to have an opinion on everyones lives you don't seem to be doing much except antagonising people. If you're waiting round for M or Jack to appear and give you a big smile and a pat on the back you've got a long wait.

Ostriches in charge at LL
11-07-2008 12:28
From: Paddy Wright
"We too look forward to hearing from the CEO. 1,886 posts so far and 70,000 people have read this forum and nothing from the CEO. That really does give the impression that he does not care, or has more important priorities than his customers. It's a disgrace to all of us, even those of us who are supporters of LL.

I wouldn't hold your breath, Paddy. All the ostriches all LL have their head buried in the sand coming up with the next "brilliant" business move.

I think this just shows what others have been saying on the blog (where the PUBLIC can read...maybe that's why they hide it in the forums now) about them simply not giving a flying crap about anything. The 'communication officer' or whatever her title is now is rarely seen or heard from. WHO is she communicating with? The cheerleaders that say "Yay LL! I love it when you treat me like crap! Love you!"??

Theses ostriches have lost a lot of money and lost a lot of trust from people that PAY THEM! Like it or not, without us, there is no them. Until they get it through their heads that the people that pay for their accounts and buy their product at the people that matter! Do they think IBM or Royal LePage or any other corporate client is going to stick around while SL bleeds users until there is nothing?

Oh wait .. they probably do! Because in their little world, all is right with the world.

Oh well! On a positive note, this *brilliant* move is now saving me and my business partner $225/month after we dumped our 3 OS and just kept our full one. So TY LL ... ty for being incredibly stupid!!

If/when the communications person takes her head out of her nether regions, perhaps she will tell us what your next move is. Perhaps a 50% increase on full sims? How about a flying tax! That'll bring you a few more bucks! Or charge $1 per IM! So many new ways to screw over your PAYING customers!

P.S. have we 'abused' the forums? I mean you did give them to us like the 3750 prim on openspace sims! Were we just supposed to LOOK at the forms and not use them?? OOPSIE! My bad!

Don't forget that if people are converting four openspaces back into one full sim that that will mean less islands on the grid so take those stats with a slight pinch of salt as they don't tell the whole story in their raw format.
1 ... 73 74 75 76 77 78 79 80 81 ... 108
