The stream is provided by Project X Shoutcast so we can guarantee it will be up and running for a full 100 listeners (unless i knock my laptop off when i'm sleeping)

The url for about land:-

To apply for Winterfaire
12-12-2008 21:44
Forgive me Dusty if I err - or step on toes :) It helps if you scroll through this forum topic because the instructions have been posted. But to reiterate:

Hi Everybody!

First, Thanks to Equinox Pinion for gently reminding me to write up this info and get it posted ;-)

Yes, I KNOW YOU ALL HATE READING DIRECTIONS but there are a few things you MUST do correctly if we are going to be able to find and process your submissions. I'll try to keep it simple.

To organize this tour, we are using the "Showcase" feature that resides in two handy places: in the Second Life Viewer (under the Search button) and on the Second Life website http://secondlife.com/showcase/.

<strong>First, you are going to prepare a picture. It must conform to the following guidelines!</strong>

1.) Go to your location and take a *beautiful* picture.
DO NOT superimpose any logos, text or captions on the picture. It should just be a plain picture.

2.) While you are there, create a SLURL [http://slurl.com/build.php]. Make it at the location where you want visitors to arrive! Save the SLURL for later use.

3.) Once you have your photo, CROP IT or re-size it to 500 pixels wide and 300 pixels high. If you try to submit a different shape, your application will be automatically rejected!!

--------> To repeat, crop or resize to 500 px wide X 300 px high! JPG

4.) Save as .jpeg. It MUST be .jpeg. It must be less than 100 KB.

5.) Post your picture on Flickr.

--------> Now, fill out the form.

5.) Go here: https://secure-web16.secondlife.com/showcase/submissions.php

6.) Under the "Category" dropdown, you MUST select "Other"
Sub-category= "Miscellaneous"

*********Under Language, you MUST select "English" or it will go to the wrong person!!! *********

7.) Preface your Venue Title with "WF-" so we can find it. Like this:
"WF- My Fabulous Winter Wonderland"

8.) Paste in the SLURL you made earlier.

9.) Now fill in the forum with the url of your Flickr-hosted picture. It should look something like this:

10.) Fill out the rest of the form, accept the agreement and Submit.

Now, if you've done all that correctly, your application will wing its way into our eager hands, and you will get a confirmation email.

--------> You only get to make 2 submissions in any 30-day time period, so don't be signing up your friends! It's best if they do their own signups.

Please note that we do not guarantee that we will list your venue. If your entry does not fit into the guidelines discussed here: /352/ad/295075/1.html, or if we just have too many entries, you many not be listed. We will do our best to give everyone a chance, but no guarantees.

Finally, if you are going to host special events at your build, we suggest you have a schedule sign at your landing point that also gives a notecard, so that visitors will know when to return for the fun. (Showcase is not designed for listing timed events, but it's great for getting people to your schedule sign!)

Thanks to all who enter, we look forward to seeing what you're building!

Dusty Linden

And I'm not a group - and I applied. :) You'll see his original post on page 8.

I don't think we're doing anything special specifically for WinterFaire, but New Babbage (an incredible Victorian/Steampunk community) has already winterized. Whether it's 6 regions with snowy textures and snowbanks on the ground to occasional snowdrifts here and there to icicles adorning the roof to a skating pond at the edge of town (with freebie skates), to winter freebies at local merchants (including cold breath, winter textures and more)... we're having a lot of fun. Mid-day Saturday I believe there will even be a snowball fort fight! We started before WinterFaire, and we'll continue long after. Visitors are welcome, the New Babbage region is a lot of fun to explore!

Where do I post the Winter Faire pic on Flickr?
12-13-2008 06:48
<Post your picture on Flickr.

Is there a special place on Flickr to post the Winter Faire pic? If so - I need the search tag or URL.

Or do I post under my name on Flickr?

Thanks,

Post on your own account- I found the easiest way to find the right URL for the application form was to right click on the pic and look at properties. There is probably a better way but it worked for me. :)

No snow in Los Angeles -- I guess I'll have to sit this one out :)

Palm trees with twinkly lights - men in santa suits with short pants and sneakers - the Hollywood Xmas Xperience (featuring the holiday bus terminal lol) - sleigh covered in gang grafitti - reindeer standing around the street corner smoking and rapping holiday songs - Muscle Beach in winter. a few ideas i thought of when i connected LA and winter. Plenty of others though i imagine.
Could do a burbank backlot thing too with silent screen stars in winter getup (not realistic? omg we are talking about LA! )

Well I think you can show US what your winter is like. And I would come just to see the Snow Queen's star on the walk of fame.
hehe
last year's winterfaire was pretty awesome. I tried to see it all but finally found myself WINTERED-OUT and had to head back to my beach and get an injection of warmth.
Best wishes to all and to all a Good Night ;)

I give up on this. Why does LL make things so difficult. Winterfests in the past were so much easier to apply for. No Sign up for Flickr and go to another location to submit for this and that. Were is Jeska Linden when you need her. Winterfest of 2006 all you had to do was send an email to Jeska.

I'm just going to keep looking for Lindens to hit with snowball, that wll be my winterfest now.

The WIRED Island One sim (http://slurl.com/secondlife/WIRED%201/129/15/317) is sponsored by a WIRED Grant from the US Dept. of Labor for interactive digital media workforce development in Appalachian Ohio. Our landing area (a large sky platform) currently contains a beautiful Appalachian Winter Scene complete with sonics and sculpty animals. Since this sim is devoted to displaying many possibilities in environments and builds it also has a winter area (WinterPlace on the sims large teleporter system) where you can ski and thrash snowmobiles. We think it's an extraordinary build and we hope you enjoy it.

How to Apply for Winterfaire Tour Listing

Is this Winterfaire for groups only, or for individuals on their parcels as well?

Both!

I have built a wonderful winter wonderland but getting people to see it is very hard and time consuming. My Holiday Park Features A Romantic Ballroom. A fun Park with Skating, Pictures with Santa who is a live Santa by a real sl photographer. We have a Portrait artist who paints your portrait while you and others can watch. We have a Five Star Skating Rink. Plus other Ice sculptures. We have free gifts. Then we have a Winter Castle just to gaze at it is a delight.
In another part of the Park we Have a Avalon Polar Express train that was a custom build that you can go in and party. We have events around a huge Christmas tree. You can dance and Skate anywhere.
We wanted to have other live events like a Christmas Carol Party where all avatars could participate via voice.
We have a Romantic Carousel Ride you can ride. We have fireworks.
We want to have a huge Avalon Polar Express Pajama Party. We Aready had a Event with Pillow fights.
But with this Great build the main problem is getting people to see it. I have placed 7 classifieds. Had events. The most people i could get to come were 30 at one time.
The biggest problem with second life is there may be 60,000 people on but where are they,
you have no way to get information out. Yes I have groups but if you look at a group of 100 people maybe 10 are online. Second life needs agrid search showing where avatars are at a given time. I have tried SL events but there are too many events listed and most are not really events.
Well as soon as the Application is out I am I am in I hope. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

This is certainly one reason for the Winterfaire Tour, to help all of you spread the word to interested visitors!

Please do apply, and also:

** At your landing spot, please include a sign noting the times/locations for all events !! **

Thank you,
-- Katt

I think I have followed directions exactly but keep getting the message "URL incorrect, picture wrong size, etc." I sent a ticket to ask for help months ago and was adivsed it was received. No further response arrived. I have worked hard on a nice display. Any suggestions????? Suzy

You have to create an account on Flickr - it's free and doesn't require any technical ability:) Then upload your picture (it should already be the correct size, you don't do any processing in Flickr).
Once it is up there you need to get the url of the picture. I'm sure there's a better way - but, I right clicked on the picture, got the url and removed some extra bits in the address. If you're not sure, paste what you think is the url into your browser address bar. If it is correct all you will see on the page is your picture. Once you have the correct url for your picture you paste it into the application.

Flickr trick

Suzy, It may be that you need to click on the "ALL SIZES" link on Flickr, then select the proper one. Flickr makes different sizes on the fly and you may be selecting one that it made?

Persephone's Grove at Yule
12-19-2008 06:52
Not sure if I'm too late to enter here, but I did submit a Winterfaire 08 application for Persephone's Grove (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Eunhaeng/226/165/56) which is currently dressed for Yule and has a Norse theme, complete with Norse temple and a recreation of a Viking longhouse. (Those are on the parcels past the Merry Meet Inn & Club -- just look for the white ground to get to them.) A Yule ritual is planned as an event on the Winter Solstice as well.

~~ crosses fingers and hopes she squeaked in under the wire ~~

We'll be adding new locations to the Showcase regularly, so if you don't see your favorites yet, keep looking.

I think Dusty will tell us when applications will close :)

Thank you all!
