As the Northern Hemisphere slowly tilts toward short days and cold, snowy landscapes, the mind inevitably turns to togetherness. Once again, it is time for Second Life’s annual celebration of all that is Winter. Winterfaire is our chance to gather for long nights, blinky lights, hot drinks and gifts in mysterious boxes. We will revel in our usual traditions like the Snowman Building Contest, the wildly popular Lindens v.s. Residents Snowball Fight, and maybe most important, tour your fabulous Winter-themed builds, all around the grid. Winterfaire will be centered around the ancient Linden mainland regions of Wengen, Voss, Zermatt and Moritz. This year we will also be using the Showcase in the Second Life viewer and web site to direct people to privately owned lands hosting must-see winter wonderlands. What are the wintertime traditions in your part of the world? If you are planning a winter extravaganza in your region that demonstrates your traditions, we’d like to connect you to the Winterfaire network of locations. Just keep these guidelines in mind when you plan and execute your winter builds: We will be looking for builds that are beautiful, well made, available throughout the event, and that present your regional sights, sounds and traditions of winter. We will bypass builds that are commercial in nature, so if you’re basically decorating your store for the season, that’s great, but it’s unlikely to be in the Winterfaire tour. Think of your build as a gift, freely given, to your fellow Residents, not as an opportunity to sell something. As submissions come in, we will send out Lindens with snowshoes to check them out and bring back their recommendations for the Showcase. While space in Showcase is limited, we will try to fit in as many submissions as we can, rotating them in and out during the event, giving many builds a chance to be seen. An application for getting your build into the celebration will be forthcoming next week– til then, I’d encourage you to talk it over in the forum thread, what would be most fun? What are you planning? Are you thinking about creating a special build? hosting a holiday concert, a skating party, or something else? — Go Make It Snow! Winterfaire plans? Talk it over in the forum thread. Dusty Linden will be there with more info and to answer questions next week. ---- Images in this post are from the build The Quiet, by AM Radio, images by Poid Mahovlich Princeton West, SLurl: The Quiet, at Princeton West, slurl.com/secondlife/Princeton%20West/180/145/29 Read the original blog post at: http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/11/28/winterfaire-coming-december-19-january-5/ ]

Can we finally get a snow texture on the mainland 'grass' so we can actually make these builds on our own land? Putting prim snow on our own land is pretty pointless when thereis green grass on the linden road and nearby plots.
Please?

What am I planning? How to save money to pay for your heinous price rises, the weak pound and watching the Villa thrash Arsenal on boxing day are my plans! I'll have a Christmas party or two and arrange a medieval new year's eve party....and indulge in several flagons of ale with my loyal and well respected customers. Maybe you'll learn a thing or two about customer service if you stop by Katt

Oh and as for what would be most fun, well some Linden's are involved in theatre here so maybe you guys could put on a performance for the residents. Dickens springs to mind, most significantly "A Christmas Carol" because you guys are going to be haunted by the ghost of Christmas past for quite a while in 2009 Oh come on, it would be fun!

Who would play Ebenezer Scrooge? Zee Linden or M Linden? Maybe they can make a Scrooge Linden.

Katt Linden, "Think of your build as a gift, freely given, to your fellow Residents" I see how you all are trying hard to make us all happy with fun and opportunities. This would be great in an environment where someone could really create something, without someone else's alts popping up 2 minutes later to copybot it. I see a lot of posts asking residents opinion on a certain subject, but when is us the residents asking a simple opinion on a certain subject, its like we didn't exist. I had really bad experiences in SL, I don't think its a safe place to create anything new anymore, I looked for help, I begged, and I felt like I was bothering. And Im sad to say Im start to think ARs are for griefing and littering mainland only now. Thank you for the opportunity tough, I bet a lot of residents will enjoy it; I love winter, I loved the idea, but I don't see me building something, gifting my "fellow" residents, when no one wants to hear you for the real issues, no one cares, I feel naked here, no one wants to listen to what is wrong, the tactic of "ignore it and it will go away" wont help, neither repeating over and over "read our policy of copyright at .. seconlifecom/dmca etc". Where is the "you talked, we listened"? People are giving up, no matter how many sign in. It should be about quality too, not quantity. MAKE SL SAFE for content creators, then we can have fun building winter builds. This is the last time I tried to get a L attention, I wont be a trouble maker anymore. Have fun

Please? Plus prim snow doesn't look as good as snow texture on land. Sometimes it's great, sometimes it's just bloby. I second Kara's "Please?" Please, Please, Please, Please? Well actually that a fourth not a second.

I thought building something beautiful non-commercial was abusing resources, and had to be turned into rental businesses??

I've passed several events like this up to see what they were like while I learned more how to build. I was very disappointed to see that too many people basically copied existing things over from their islands etc. Or just made a place to showcase a landmark of their store. I hope I can be a part of one of these celebratory events. It's such a great time of the year, and here in NYC we dont really get winters or snowy scenes anymore. Are these doubleprim or regular prim and how big is the space usually? I assume it doesnt count against tier?

Can we please stay on topic and maintain some civlity and mutual respect, in hopes to share a warm cup of Yuletide and "Auld Lang Syne" for all. Thanks. Personally, I am looking forward to this and plan to participate. Not sure what yet, but defintely count me in. I love the entire concept and think it's a great way to bring the community together whilst at the same time sharing a bit of cross cultural winter seasons celebrations. Thanks Linden Lab!

From: Ciaran Laval There's a 67% reason to be nasty, but I put a smilie in it. You may enjoy being shafted without the courtesty of KY but I don't. That's fine. You're entitled to your opinion. This is really not the thread for it so please don't ruin the fun for the rest of us who may actually enjoy this. Thanks.

So ignore me and let me invite Katt to my New Year's eve party without you trying to poke your nose into it. This is very much the thread for it, they're asking what we're doing.

From: Gordon Wendt Ciarian, go back to trolling on the comments section of Prok's blog (yes I read her blog occasionally) and let the rest of us move on who either don't care or are mature enough to get over it. If you don't care why do you keep poking your big nose into it then Gordon? You've troilled the openspaces because your precious Jira (and Prok is bang on about the Jira) had a little bit of hassle.

Prok is bang on about the confusion between resolved and closed still being a huge issue, other than that she's deluding herself into thinking that she can have her own little world where she's in charge rather than god forbid other residents actually being involved.

No Prok is bang on about the bullying on the Jira by people who think they own the world who then come to the forums and act in the same manner. Katt took my comments in the manner they were intended, you however come to troll, as you do in the openspace forum where you go out of your way to comment on an issue you say doesn't interest you, you actively go into a forum called openspace discussion to complain about it.

OS Builds Allowed?
11-28-2008 16:50
Can we use the OpenSpace SIM's we have? You know the one's, those that we paid for, you took our money for, and then told us we were bad for using them?
Just want to be clear here, don't want to overlook any rules you might not have told us about in the beginning like before.

It stopped being a discussion when LL stopped listening. Even you have to admit that they have stopped caring what you and your merry band of pissy OS owners/supporters have to admit that LL has stopped listening. I'm somewhat amazed that Katt hasn't closed the section down yet as it now serves no legitimate purpose but that's her decision. That being said I would be interested to see how you think that shouting into the wind on threads that are complaints about how LL made me lose my build or LL made me lose my rental business are actually productive or helpful for anything. Incidentally, because this is off-topic to the thread at hand this will be my last OS related discussion on this thread, feel free to continue this over PM though Ciarian if you want or if you would rather it be public start a thread in OS discussion and and I'll comment there though I would of course prefer the former since pretty much everything that can be covered here already has been.
