From: Maggie Darwin Keep laughing. The last "age play" ruckus about a year ago was triggered in part by overreaching British pedophilia laws.
Maybe your vidcard is crappy, or you spend a lot of time wearing comedy avs. But there's been some *very* realistic work done in SL with high end equipment that's quite striking and I think would pass the "reasonable person" test.
Not "cartoon"' at all. Precisely.. and they are trying to legislate restrictions on animated sex too. No matter how silly that sounds, an angry mob is still an angry mob, and an overprotective mom is still listened to over a consumer of sexual services.

Not "cartoon"' at all. I spend a whole lot of time looking for good looking avatars to photograph, and I have yet to see one that I would even come close believing was a real person. The best are very good cartoons, and most don't even come close to that level.

The best are very good cartoons, and most don't even come close to that level. BlueMars is going to Beta stage in June...and will presumely be released during the backend of this year. The Avatar meshing and the general Graphics is superior to Second Life on every level. Depending on its rules if they are liberal or not....i foresee a lot of SL'ers flocking to that 3D VW over time. Its not a SL clone, the archtecture is completly different ...they don't have regions (Sims), they have Cities...Cities that will hold 1000''s of AV's . Can you imagine holding a Music Concert? Which platform would a RL musician prefer to use...one which could broadcast to 1000's or one that could play to 100 (with lots of lag)? They intend covering all the bases including Educators and RL businesses too....I can bet their platform will be a far better offering than SL......so even in that area, LL might lose out. The only downside with BlueMars is the high OS entry level, you need to be using Vista as minimum because of the Graphics.....whilst its an issue at the moment, it won't be in a couple (or few) years time in terms of Login numbers.

From: Katheryne Helendale The adult content already IS age-restricted! Nobody under the age of 18 is permitted on the main grid where the adult content is. A simple checkbox forcing the new subscriber to affirm under penalty of perjury that he or she is at least 18 years of age is sufficient; however, I can concede LL's interest in tightening up a bit. The answer is simple, however: Bring back the requirement to produce payment information upon signup, with a US$1 charge that is clearly listed as "Age Verification for Access to Adult Material" on the card's billing statement.
That is ALL Linden Labs needs to do! Everyone (except for the puritans who want all of SL to themselves) will be happy!
As an aside: Can we PLEASE stop referring to the new continent and the adult content therein as "AO"? Please? Every time I see someone refer to it as AO, I have to wonder how much of the Kool-Aid that person has had to drink. QFT. I disagree with the need to label the $1 charge as "adult content" oriented however. Sounds p0rny. A lot of people would not want their accountant, spouse, parent, whoever, to see that. And why would that be necessary? Other than that, yes on your points. What does AO stand for btw? Blue Linden kept referring to it during his office hour meeting.

From: someone We talk not longer about dungeons, we talk now about dignity, I have noticed along the last few days. Copied/pasted from someone's reply so I apologise for not including the OP's name in the quoted portion, but that was a very good post (because I agree with it, yes, lol but also because very well worded and thought through). I just wanted to say freedom and dignity have been my points since the beginning. Along with that, the utter insensibility of the plan as well as its impracticality and unfair impingement upon privacies. Now - did anyone answer my questions? Will PIOF count as age verified, as originally promised? When will the age verified/not verified restrictions be implemented? I have trouble wading through legalese and techie-speak, so if someone would phrase it in layman's terms I would be very grateful.

From: Couldbe Yue btw. the D does not stand for domination. It stands for discipline. Although the community has been hijacked and distorted by those who have a taste for D/s, it's not actually part of the acronym. Six of one and half a dozen of the other: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BDSMDiscipline involves Domination and vice versa. There are in fact those in SL who engage in Bondage and Domination, D/s (Domme/Dom and slave/sub) and M/s (Master/Mistress and slave/sub) who don't engage in any form of discipline or Sado Masochism, including those who are married or legal partners in Real Life. These very simply involve a commitment which is more than the act of partnering.

From: Clarissa Lowell Will PIOF count as age verified? AgeVerified = Adult Payment Info On File + Payment Info Used - AgeVerified = Adult All other combinations = Not Adult Verified So I think PIOF on its own doesnt qualify as PIOF hasnt used their info for a RL 3rd-party transaction. Use I think equals validation of the info supplied. It will come in with the next Viewer.

Not "cartoon"' at all. A person was recently convicted of possessing child pr0n here in Australia when a cartoon of Bart Simpson having sex with Lisa Simpson was found on his PC. The defence argued that it was not real and therefore the charges should be dropped, the magistrate disagreed on the grounds it was what the image implied that mattered. That sort of decision could have all sorts of implications for something like Second Life.

From: Blondin Linden 6) How will people end up on the land swap list? Will it be voluntary or will they be selected by LL ANSWER: People will be able to request a land swap and we will review to make sure that their parcel meets the criteria of being on the mainland and containing adult content, and that they would be impacted by the changes.
So you are only eligible for the move *if* you have adult content? What about those who bought mature land because it had no restrictions on use beyond what is prohibited anywhere in SL. Many of those will wish to move to land with similar low restrictions rather than remain on land with more restrictions than the land they originally bought just in case they may wish to host an adult event at some point in the future etc. Are you not going to accomodate these? Matthew Thats my worry as well. So if I wanted to swap my M for A (if I had any) then I would absolutely put up a great big sign in my outdoor garden saying "Get Your Free Xtreem Smex Here. Newbie Friendly. All Welcome" and include this in my parcel description so it shows up in Search.

Are they subject to the move as well? From: Kalderi Tomsen Summer, this one Blondin has answered quite a few times, and with amazing consistency.
Private residences are not affected by this policy. As I have stated in previous post and questions, that have been unanswered, and to make it perfectly clear... SEX is SEX, no matter where you are having it, how can you single out one group in a "new" policy and not include it as a whole... If your going to force this upon some and not all, then my club/mall is now a private home and we just have a lot and I mean a lot of guest... I personally do not want this for ANYONE, I think it is unfair and judgemental. As I have stated before and will here one more time. IN FULL CONTEXT 5. Seems like all the businesses, sex clubs, sex object builders, and those that simply enjoy sex (smiles big) are going to be effected by this move, does this also include the person that lives in their own house (that they pay tier for) who want to enjoy sex with someone? Are they subject to the move as well? To say that someone having sex in their private home is any different from dancers stripping in a club is different just is not so, I have walked upon some houses where people were in open chat having sex and it was worst than anything I heard coming from the club.. Sex is Sex.. no matter if in a private home or in a club, beach, or whatever... With that said, I just do not see how there is a difference between the two... Again SEX is SEX in secondlife and it does not matter were it is, in a club or a private home, someone can and will come across it. SO leave things as they are.... And secondly, eventually, that is all that is going to be there, so no matter where you are located, YOU WILL end up being right next door to another club/mall/sex place.. Now this is completely unacceptable, considering I DO NOT HAVE THAT NEAR ME NOW. If this was happening to all the NON ADULT places, and maybe it will, if you all just sit here and let this happen to the ADULT or whatever is considered to be ADULT, how long would your business last??? What kind of compensation would you expect for your business being ruint over poor decisions??? How happy would you be being uprooted and given 9 days to relocate what took you 3 years to build and put in place???? Oh YEAH we get to pick where we will be moved.... Should this make me soooo happy... A place full of nothing but what everyone else considers SEX when the whole place is having it, no buffers inbetween them, if you can not understand any of this concept, then I do not know what to tell you... 1 + 1 = 2 very plain and simple math, if you shove all of together in one location there will only be one result complete and total failure of all. And still what about a discount on tier... I love my place now, just like it is... I am a paying customer my place is high in the air no one can walk up to it, they can and do tp there because they want to. I paid a lot of money for my land A LOT and now your asking me to bend over and take a loss... And trust me doing this will destroy any and all that move there. NO ONE can get in unless they have some payment info... NO ONE can get in and buy things from the stores in my mall... Hey why don't all of you that think this is a great idea move all your businesses into one clump for a month and lets see how well you survive and see if your still on board with it... LMFAO.. bet not one of you that thinks this is all wonderful and great would do it now would you???? Stop lying to yourself and others, so long as it is not you who cares right??? And for those of you who are parents and thing well teens should not be subject to this... YOU RIGHT, that is why they have a TEEN GRID, this one is for ADULTS, all kinds of ADULTS. We came here for the freedom of expression, I may not like the way you express yourself, but I will never tell you it is right or wrong.... KEEP the children out of ADULT things... I do not have children and yet everywhere I am censored, from the movies I watch on television being chopped all up to everything I do in RL... THIS is SL and for some of us yes it is as real as can be, but we all have the option to just TP someplace else and/or just turn it off. Parents need to take responsibility for their children... My mom taught me right from wrong, is this generation so lazy they expect everyone else to raise their children for them???

From: Ciaran Laval I don't know where people are getting this idea that the UK is a place where explicit sexual content was allowed freely. We've always been behind most of the rest of Europe on our level of legal smut.
The obscene publications act was introduced in the 1800's, they tried to stop the publication of Lady Chatterly's lover under this act, although the publisher was found not guilty.
However there are similarities between the extreme porn act and Linden Lab's extreme porn act. Both are not being well presented, both try to say it's ok to do consentual stuff in your own home, both are so vague on definititions that people feel they will infringe freedom of expression and both are ran by organisations who simply will not listen to alternatives. Yeah its surprising now many don't realize a lot of UK smut laws are antiquated in comparison for example, here in Holland I do agree there are some comparisons to be drawn with LL and the UK anti smut lobby tho

7) How much time will we be given to select and move everything over before dual tier kicks back in or will it be that once the swap is done the legacy mainland reverts to LL and we're given a certain amount of time to remove our items? ANSWER: Linden will assign parcels and the resident will have 9 days, over a two weekend period, to go and 'buy' the new land. At the end of the 9 days, we will reclaim their mainland parcel. Again, there will be no dual tier. /me laughs... 9 days?!? ...and LL hasn't even informed the majority of Residents yet. They're going to be standing around the Lab with pitchforks methinks

Not "cartoon"' at all. The last ageplay ruckus as you say was because of German laws not British and my vid card is good for here however i maintain SL is still cartoon in nature. The new draconian laws that the UK have introduced i am studying and watching carefully as potentially they affect my RL business and i have been following them closely as an Ex Pat, and i even discussed this ongoing matter with the campaigner against these laws as she is a friend and even she agreed that it was probably very unlikely avatars here would be considered realistic in the light of the law. Are you from the UK then?

Can you provide a link as it would be interesting to read I ask as this also has a bearing to the context of the statement that "it could have all sorts implications for something like SL"

Matthew This was discussed a few thousand posts ago. Within this context AO is used to abbreviate 'Adult Oriented' (I think the Lindens started it). It was mentioned before that this is not a good idea, since AO is SL wide used to abbreviate 'Animation Override' as Matthew points out. For that reason it was suggested to use AC as abbreviation for Adult Content. But like so many other intelligent post it was lost in the mass of them.

I was being ironic The fact that LL doesn't seem to have noticed that AO is already a well accepted and used acronym within SL displays a shocking lack of knowledge of their own customer base. Yeh I kept thinking Animation Override too, but it was clear in the context of Blue's sentences that this was definitely not what he was talking about. He seemed to be referring to the whole Ursula/age verification debate.
The office chat is somewhere on the Wiki, but I don't have a link, since I've never been there.
Tabliopa: thanks for the info, although being mathphobic I had to read that a few times to let it sink in. Simpler the better, with me.
So you're saying that until someone uses the PIOF, as opposed to merely listing it, they are still a child in LL's eyes. How convenient to the coffers? Lol
Still, at least it beats Aristotle...sort of...(it also makes no sense OTHER than encouraging memberships/spending in SL).

They're going to be standing around the Lab with pitchforks methinks I'm amazed that the majority of the time if I bring up the whole "AO" (hee) discussion, I'd say 90% of the time if not more, the others have no idea what I am referring to. Also no one is discussing it in any sim that might or likely will be affected. No one. Some more there have at least heard about it, though. But a LOT of people will be caught out in the cold. One person when the topic came up, simply said "I don't want to think about it." Duck & cover, duck & cover....

I think that LL trying to find a middle ground between personal privacy concerns and protecting themselves (and us as well) from people using anonymous accounts to engage in RL illegal activities within SL. Illegal by the laws that govern LL itself. So I think they going down the All Reasonable Precautions path. Validation of info supplied by a 3rd party is I think a reasonable precaution. LL (or any other provider) not ever able to validate the person behind the supplied info. So they doing the next best thing. Is like when neteller or paypal want copies of RL documents to validate the account. It not prove anything. Is just a reasonable precaution that they can show to the RL authorities if they ever get questioned about it. And ya if it means more money in SL then I think thats a good thing. People with free accounts can be fun but if I was a business owner then I would like to have some of their money as well =)

From: Argent Stonecutter I think you're making my point for me. I can not imagine any server-side implementation whereby it would even in theory be potentially possible for "an older client" to bypass any of these security measures. And, contrariwise, I can not imagine any client-side implementation that would effectively prevent people from bypassing these security measures. I can. Perhaps not the best analogy, but it works to explain how client and server, working in concert, can prevent what you're talking about. Think SSL. SSL is a process that requires the cooperation of both the server and the browser in order to work. If one were to use an older browser without SSL implementation to access a secure website, the connection would simply fail. The server would not arbitrarily say, "Oh, you don't understand SSL? Okay, let's send it all in the clear then" The servers hosting adult-flagged regions will require some sort of handshake from a compatible viewer in order to grant access to adult content - and then only if the account has age-verified in the first place. At least, that's how I understand it. An older viewer will not know it has to handshake with the server for access to adult content, and will therefore be denied access.
