I came here because SL DID NOT have voice

It seems there are many reason people do }not wish to use voice, Allow me to state mine;
I am Married in my Real Life, I have a wife in my Secondlife for the couple years, So far I have been able to explain Secondife away to her by telling her "I'm killing bad guys", lately it is becoming much harder to do so with all the skinless bald erect newbies running around everywhere as it is'
Voice.....I care deeply for my SL wife, We share everything our love, our fears, our joy, When I tell her I love her, or how beautiful she is, it is now just taps on a keyboard one can overhear in my home, with voice, I fear, would cause many more problems in keeping the peace in my home, "Just killing bad guys!" (voice){I've missed you baby, Come cuddle with me for awhile while we decide where to go}...I think you can see where I'm going with this, it maybe I am the only one married in RL on SL with a spouse here, and the problem is unique to myself, But I fear for my relationship here.
My voice is a good voice, I have no hearing problems, I am well spoken in voice atleast, My SL wife and I have spoken a number of times in the past over the years, but those times were when I was alone, with no-one to overhear. Yes I use headphones, that part I can hide, but I cannot hide my own voice as I respond to those within earshot of me.

Well all you say is true Colette, I'll have to admit that is the case.

But yanno, it's down to us all to fight against all that crap. People don't want to talk to me, I must be ugly, but perhaps I will get people whining at me. I'm blase enough to not care what is said but I guess that's not true for everyone and I am not seeing it from a point of view of someone who does get hassles.

All flippancy aside, I really do think people will simply not care and/or will use it with their friends and loved ones and that's all.

I've been saying the same thing all along. People can TRY to coerce, intimidate, cajole, insult, and marginalize me. They won't suceed, but if that's how they wan't to get their jollies, go for it. I don't have time to wast one them.

So the reason you dont want to use voice features is because you dont want your RL wife to know you're a liar and you're unfaithful.

Nothing personal, but it just brings me back to my previous statement when I said that people dont know how to seperate SL from RL... and your post is just a perfect example of my reasoning for stating that.

While this may not pertain to you... there are so many people who constantly jeopardize not only their REAL life relationships and commitments, but several who have also put SL so far ahead of their REAL LIFE that not only their relationships are struggling, but their jobs, and in many cases their children are suffering also. It's not just D&D players who are neglecting their kids for online "entertainment" it's people here too... and I cant help but feel that this GAME, and far too many users, are trying too hard to take away every aspect of what "virtual" is... and the voice feature is a MAJOR part of that.

Your right its up to us to fight that crap - thats why we speak up on the forums. But some close minded peopel dont want to hear anything negative becuase they assume that means we want the plug pulled on their new gizmo.

There is a huge number of lame, nerdy guys who live in the mother's basement prancing around in real sexay AVS saying all this nonsense of how hawt they are in real life. Voice will help us sort these guys out!!

Well, voice will also determine which women avatars (who also have women's voices) are really 5'9 super-goddesses in RL who weigh 120 lbs, and have DD's between those who are anything BUT attractive.

There is only one species of users that wants to "sort them out": Horny lame guys that cannot afford a RL hooker (not to speak of a RL partner) and have to get a pixel animation to make them j*rk *ff, but are too lame to understand that when you pay the fee for a pixel hooker you also GET a pixel hooker and nothing more. Why you just don't get it: Pixel hookers might be controlled by men. And I even think they are able to produce the most "satisfying" results because they really know male desires

Everyone else with a regular RL sex life who enjoys a harmless roleplay from time to time will have no need for voice because they take the avatars as what they are: fantasy figures, regardless of their real life gender, age, location or species.

It's just a "game" after all.. if it wasn't escorts would have to be banned because of the law in most of the US states.

See - thats what I am suggesting, that we can use voice to out those lame guys. I dont kow about you but Im tired of them coming onto me. Ill stick with people who have more class.

They are so busy thinking voice will help them find the real women, they are forgetting how unatractive they will be when they are using voice.

You would not really even have to voice to get it to work! Just don't bother voicing with any Male Avs. You will avoid most of them that way.

Please. Did the person below you actually claim you will be able to figure out which women are really 5'9 goddesses when they are obviously women talking, SIMPLY by hearing their voices? My post was not about finding out their RL looks at all.

At this point even though I am pro-voice (Well not so much pro-voice but more "I don't care it's already here so quit whining about it" I would like to just state that Carli's views are not shared by ALL people who want voice or whatnot and instead should be blamed on the consuming of large quantities of lead paint chips.

So the term "hawt" has no connection whatsoever with physical appearance then. Okay, which additional character traits do you feel will be identifiable and verifiable by listening to someone's voice?

Whether or not they are college educated?
How much money they make?
Their RL savoir-faire when dealing with people face to face?
Whether or not their clothing is trendy as befits the "Rico Suave" avatar they use in SL

Hmmm...If we can tell half of the things about someone's RL persona that you seem to thing we can merely from voice, where then is the counter-argument to people claiming that voice represents an invasion of privacy?

Something must give. Either voice is not the beacon of truth you make it out to be, or voice is as much of a privacy invasion as an address and photo. Which is it?
