Common sense may revolt at the idea, and I don't disagree with that common sense, but the revolt can't change the way things are. I've always thought that creating sims without pathways through them was idiotic, and I still do think that.

If you don't disagree with that common sense than you should perhaps use a term like "ability" or "privilege" rather than "right".

It's a right that comes with owning a full sim. Pro-rata avs in sims that aren't fully owned are not rights though, but neither are they privileges. In those sims, common sense should be used, as I described earlier.

Transcontinental flight on a private sim would seem rather pointless, but to each his own.

I meant any fully owned sim - mainland included.

Now there I disagree, for the same reason that the US Supreme court disagreed.

Well, I don't know about the U.S. Supreme Court but, in my view, if a person owns the whole of a mainland sim, then s/he has the right to use all of its resources, including all of its av slots

And Argent hasn't brought up the fact ban lines only go to 50m... allowing for flight over the land parcels. _____________________

I've no idea who the Causbys are, but that's my view. A sim owner can do whatever s/he wants in and with the sim provided that it's within the ToS.
Mort. Yes to your question, and for your statement, height doesn't come into it. A sim owner can prevent any and all from entering the sim at any height. That's part of what owning land is about. _____________________

I consider it a right of paid-for land ownership, and not merely a privilege - just as the number of prims is a right of land ownership, because it is paid for. We differ slightly.

I consider it a right of land ownership, just as the number of prims is a right of land ownership. We differ slightly. If it were a right, then even a 512 plot would be able to restrict airspace. _____________________

I consider it a right of paid-for land ownership, and not merely a privilege - just as the number of prims is a right of land ownership, because it is paid for. We differ slightly. Where are the "rights" of land ownership explicitly listed by LL? There are all sorts of things that a landowner *can* do, either with land tools, scripted objects, bots or themselves. There are things that landowners can do, but were stamped on by LL. There are things that landowners can do that are about to be stamped on by LL. The landowners in question might consider them rights, but it appears that they were mistaken. They were not rights, they are things facilitated by the system. Some things were facilitated by LL explicitly building them into the system. Some things were faciltated by users dreaming them up. |

I think you're abusing the term "right" pretty damn outrageously there. When customers start talking about "rights" they're only a short distance from one of those nasty scenes at the customer service counter that ends up with store security getting called. Especially considering all it takes is : *clickity click* And then you have nothing but memories. You have no rights to anything in SL, you pay for the ability to use prims and square meters. All this is still at LL's discretion, with a couple mouse clicks.. you got nothing and no longer exist _____________________

Of course it can. Any land owner can restrict access to any and all people, and at all heights. how? other than with scripts... _____________________

The 'Crowded Silence'!
01-16-2009 09:00
Once I went to a SIM that was packed with bots. There were so many of them there that I started to record a film. Then I found out who the SIM owner was, and we started to talk about bots, and its use in SL.
It all is in the film 'Crowded Silence' (Second Life Bots Footage) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVzEib-uB08 Enjoy! |

I think you're abusing the term "right" pretty damn outrageously there. The same applies to avatars. As long as I'm paying for the sim, I have a right to all that comes with it, including the full number of avatars. The number may change in the future, but I will still have the right to the sim's full number of avatars. You may consider those things to be privileges, but I consider them to be rights that come with paying for the sim every month. _____________________

how? other than with scripts... BAN lines stretch up to infinity. Only not-member-of-the-group lines stop at 50m. |
