From: Sandy Carver I think I may have been magnetised by Bilbo's sparkling chat and drink mixing skills. Sarcasm does not become you Sandy! Sorry I had to be part-time towards the end; of all things Morgaine went offline just as you did so I was a little later logging out. Only in SecondLife can such a misconceived rant turn into one of the funniest threads of the week .... and what's more .. it's Friday guys!!!! On topic; if I find a new place, I might hang around and listen. If I like what I hear I might say hello and see what happens. I do not expect or demand to be approached. I usually am and that impresses me muchly. There are asshats all over the world. This thread should never have started.

From: Cherry Czervik Ha. YOU (being the US) call them chips (I think) because of 'game chips' which were specifically created to go with game birds. And are crisps. So ... what are crisps? Crisps are chips, apparently, or it the other way round? I'm confused

Nothing to do with chips or fries or crips or jelly or jello or canned cheese, but..... a car hood being called a bonnet always makes me giggle.

We had a teacher who went on a US exchange visit. Day 1, he's in class, marking work with a pencil and makes a mistake. Go on, guess what happened!

From: Chas Connolly If they is referring to Europeans in general, I think you'll find they call them lots of things. Only us Brits have the audacity to refer to fries as chips Fries != Traditional chips. The latter ain't so thinly sliced. My local chippy actually sells fries as well as chips, recognising that some people prefer one type to the other.

Yes that picture isn't really what I'd call crisps. The classic crisp of all crisps is the Walkers Cheese and Onion. The king of crisps. (I tried to get a picture from Google to post but just ended up confused and alone in a strange place)

So what do Americans call fries that are baked in the oven? You have those right? I mean, I know you guys like to fry as much as possible - but you can't fry everything right?
Perhaps they can be called French Bakes - or just bakes for short. Either way, those things are crisps.
