From: Max Pitre Try being an American ( I read you are) living in most of Europe. France was the worst, Italy a close second, Greece and Turkey were up there. Holland was the complete opposite. England was OK for the most part. Australia rocked just because it's Australia, what a great place with great people. I prefer the US over every country I've been to...and I've been to most all in the northern hemisphere. Not that any are not worth the visit, they all have some great people and great places. So the point is, everyplace has it's good and it's bad yet there is never a place as good as home...of course unless you're from Texas...j/k Although I agree, there's no place like home (said Dorothy to Toto), don't quit your job and become a diplomat I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder - or some such - you know what I mean...

From: Bee Mizser OK I'm going to defend Danielle here, mainly because I've seen the conversation, and I also know something you don't. She is American. Therefore when she asked the question, she was making an observation about her own countryfolk. And yes I suppose we've all been there and posted in the heat of the moment. Anyway, I think we all need to take a big chill pill and move on . Life is far too short.. Sorry but since when is she American? During that time, are you sure she isn't from China?I know you are her business partner but I also know she is French or partially or who cares it doesn't matter... and I don't think it matters what she she is where she is from. She still publicly attacked a nation of people... *shrugs*

From: Rudolph Ormsby Wow - i think that is best advice I have heard all year! Very well put Sling ! Personally I am a bit tired of these anti-American or anti-anyone threads, even if disguuised by a bunch of other "issues".
The thing that sets SL apart from most online experiences is that it does not matter where people are from, but if you do meet people from another country/culture you have the opportunity to learn about them, see things from many perspectives, etc. SL is a JOY because of this. QFT! I have no pie, will noodles do?

From: Kelly Kuiper Hahaha. You should try walking round Stratford-on-Avon on a sunny Sunday Afternoon. Damn Yanks everywhere with their big cameras and flowery shirts and ''Gee George, ain't thayt cute'.
/me removes tongue from cheek.
Cultural stereotypes are easy. Kinda saves you having to bother with making the effort of thinking. In contrast, I've always found American people to be the most courteous and pleasant folks - both in RL and SL.
If only they'd apply a bit more taste to their building, they'd be fine.

From: Chris Norse Let us all join hands and declare that everyone everywhere is rude. Just don't make me stand beside one of those Liechtensteiners or an Andorraovian.
/me braids a flower necklace and hums some vaguely hippie song. Cool, Chris is tuning into a flower person. I knew you had it in you!

From: Steely Carver I am sorry to hear you were treated rudely. I would just not ever go there again. For the most part, people have been nice to me on SL. However, I have run into people who were rude from all kinds of places. The last one I remember was fro Chile'.
I am from California and I go out of my way to be upbeat, positive and polite when dealing with people in SL or RL. I don't think it's a nationality thing; it's a people thing. No matter where you go you will find people who just aren't nice to each other. Unfortunately these people seem to overshadow the majority of people who are just trying to have fun. Hey Steely, welcome to the forums (just in case nobody else has welcomed you). I lived in California, and nearly everybody was friendly, even when they thought i was crazy because I refused to drive. Well everyone except for the people who pointed guns at me. Didn't like that much

From: Cole Riel Same old rant about Americans being rude. Blah, blah, blah. That wasn't rude. Come see me I'll show you what being rude is really like, I don't like anyone. What is it with some of these foreigners? They as weak as they seem? C'mon, show some backbone.

From: Broccoli Curry It's ok, your fun is almost over, we'll come and add that troublesome little colony back to the Empire soon.
Broccoli Fine, but we're keeping our dental plan, introducing you to spices, and if you think we're going to pay an annual tax on televisions you're frackin nuts.

Actually, now that I think about it. I've been to most European countries, even bothered to learn some of the languages there. Just enough to get by. Backpacked, avoided the tourist areas and in general was as polite as possible to everybody. You know what happened? I got treated like shit due the fact I was American. So, if we're going to go with the broad, sweeping stereotypes and generalizations..maybe Americans are rude because most Europeans are judgemental assholes?

From: Nina Stepford you intentionally miss the point. chip manufacturers parfry in tallow. not restaurants. even in the good ol usa. Frito Lay, the biggest chip manufacturer in the US of A, uses sunflower oil for most of it's products. Peanut oil is also a medium they use to fry in. Sure you may find a few regional or local brands that fry in tallow, but they are the exception not the rule. If you are misnaming fries as chips, well then Ore Ida, the biggest American fry manufacturer advertises most of it's products as vegan suitable.

From: Chris Norse I edited in to fix their error. Most Ore Ida products are vegan. If I remember right - The reason they removed animal fats was the beginning of the health care craze it was determined we in America eat too much fried food .. Of course they replaced Animal fats with Vegitable fats that are high in trans fats, so they mistakenly though that it was healthier. Only more recently have some moved to peanut, sunflower, olive oils which are mono and poly unsaturated instead. -BUT- I'm Pretty sure the Atkins and South Beach people say the real problem is the potatoes and not the fat. A potato is pretty high on carbs compared to fiber content.

Yes, Atkins is a high protein & fat diet that avoids carbs. People on this diet usually have very bad breath as the metabolism of fat (in the absence of carbs) produces high levels of a group of smelly compounds called ketones. Not a very healthy diet, imho.

From: Danielle Harrop and another question, why are Americans so rude and hateful to every one even their own? ......but you guys don't care, do ya...nah, didnt think so..
I broke your statement up, because I hate quoting an entire post when the meat of my subject is just one line. Before that Danielle, I will say that I go to a lot of things alone in new places and after an initial greeting am left on my own for the most part. It is up to me to mingle and get around, and not assume anyone is going to bust their hump to approach me much. The "meat"....generalized, blanket, broad-brushing statements are sure to get you shunned. Injecting modifiers or qualifiers such as "a few", "some", or something of that nature may keep you from being viewed as being RUDE or NARROW-MINDED. You quite probably had a mis-percieved or mis-understood encounter with someone. Example: I was on my land building a house. A young man came up to me and proceeded to threaten me with all sorts of physical harm. He was decked out in all sorts of BORG (Star Trek) type battle gear. When I laughed at him for the 2-D physical threats, he started into stuff about my mother...really vile stuff. I still laughed at him. He said he was from Argentina and hated all Americans. Well....does his behavior indicate that I am supposed to hate ALL Argentinians in return? By your thought projections, I should. Think about it.
