From: Chas Connolly Cobbler is an interesting one. Glad you brought that up In England, a cobbler used to be a savoury dish, like a casserole, covered in, guess what, savoury scones. Thanks to the yanks, now we have sweet and savoury cobblers. Thanks I have a recipe for a peach cobbler that dates from 1694. Sorry to debunk your theory. I do that sometimes. It's involuntary. I also have a recipe for English "burnt cream" that pre-dates the earliest written record of a French Creme Brulee by about 80 years. Food history is a hobby of mine. I tend to stay clear of the whole baked-goods milieu.

From: Conan Godwin Strange people. Lovely and quaint; but strange. Definitely. Though my uncle got some funny looks when he was trying to pick up some fags in San Francisco. "Look, Benson & Hedges yes????"

From: Sally Silvera /me digs up a big chunk of cheese Good for you. Otherwise you cannot reproduce your DNA without B12 - and since every cell in your body dies after 120 days max and is replaced by a new one, that means vegans who don't eat marmite are at massive risks of cancer - more so than people who gorge on steaming piles of red meat and entrails (like I do).

"Look, Benson & Hedges yes????" I used to work for MBNA Europe - now taken over by Bank of America. We had some guys from the Texas regional sales office visiting. One of my colleagues was giving a seminar. during his speech he said they should take a break and "go outside and have a fag". I had to quickly jump in and explain. Texans though. Even stranger than the rest of them (except people from Verrmont - there aren't any, only cows.) If I know San Francisco, and I don't, then I should imagine he would have recieved plenty of offers.

So what on earth was I eating when I was served lamb casserole topped with scone-like thingies? EDIT: Oh, I always thought the American cobbler was like me mam's apple crumble.

From: Chas Connolly So what on earth was I eating when I was served lamb casserole topped with scone-like thingies? Savoury cobblers might exist. But I've never encountered them. Maybe it's not an English dish but is "as American as Mom's Apple Pie" - apples not being native to America at all and apple pies being made in England since about the 7th century So it's a bit like saying that something is "as American as Mom's lamb tagine with dried figs and couscous." Cobbler is basically a very heavy, dense, crumble - or in some cases like a crumble topped tart. There's really no reason why it shouldn't be savoury though. Once, mince pies had minced lamb in them (they're actually a Moroccan invention imported to medieval England - lamb and dried fruit being a popular combination in North African cooking). I still make them that way actually. Perhaps you were served this savoury cobbler at a restaurant soon to be televised by Gordon Ramsay who will then sue him shortly afterwards for exposing their idiotic ass-hattery?

Seems the OP is quite succesfull in posting threads that derail, as the same posting on SLX got itself 15 pages before getting closed by sami Can only make me wonder what the objective is: more attention to herself and her products, of a genuine lack of intelligence. Kinda harsh said maybe, but let's get real: Getting kicked out of a club because of a kind of rude remark to the owner/dj can hardly be seen as a reason to start a rant towards Americans in general. (Mzzz as if a reason is needed at all to start such a rant *grin*). As for me, it happen already a few times, that I arrived in the forum hangout and NOBODY was there to greet me! Which means the Forum Hangout probably is rude and therefore American. Makes one wonder why Heineken agreed to hanging their sign on the wall and beer on tap anyway.... Ow and Brenda made fun of my overheating latop too. How rude! Probably American? Bottomline conclusions: - RA still needs a lot of work to catch up with SLX as in number of useless replies - Americans are rude. So are the Dutch. Or is it just me? - Posting rant threads catches a lot of attention - THANK GOD ITS FRIDAY!!! Greetings Marcel

I have a strange feeling that I can guess what annoyed the DJ and club management. I must be psychic.
