What a cool thread. I love SL has reasons like business and coping with neighbours etc to keep people on their toes. I tried some of the old chats like mIRC yahoo etc, seriously the level of manners was just not the same.

I don't know how to vote here, I'll think about it more.

My reputation (whatever that may be) amongst the residents of SL is probably already somewhat lower than that of an MP caught double-dipping their expense claims *BUT* .....

1) I see myself and a decent sort and do my best to live up to my self-image. Yes, I fall short. I know, I know....

2) My SL character is very much tied to my RL in that I promote my RL music in SL through my avatar. I would be doing myself, my image and reputation no favours.

This question is probably most valid when the earnings hit a point they could matter in real life.

I used to play this game called Sim City, you had to build up a city and make it thrive against the games odds. The only way I ever found to win that game was making industrial harbour slums, so I dumped making all the nice parks and cool city planning and played slum lord a few times, won, and lost interest in the game.

Sometimes I feel I am selling out just by living through another day, but I have hope that not everyone sells out. I love those films where people stick to thier principles and it all works out. Lots of the movies are about crusty old people who just don't care about anything else anymore but what is important to them. I would really love to think I may get there someday, but it is proabably a myth.

Everyone would do what is best for their family, that's human nature and if that means doing something legally allowed but ethically questionable that would see your family right for the rest of their lives then they will do it.
