Thankfully most of us in SL are lucky in that we can afford to have morals. I imagine our morals can quickly fade when our stomachs are empty and we're freezing to death on a street corner.

Yes, you'd have to keep doing whatever it was. But it wouldn't be, say, backbreaking or utterly time consuming or anything.

I suppose you could stop at some point, but it's doubtful that your deeds would be forgotten.

This is the reason that gambling and now sex (sex sells) is a no-no here now. These two 'business' have the most potential to make un-limitless income and the most chance to corrupt even the most scrupled person on the grid.

Err...then...why is land sale still about? I was under the impression that the active, working land flippers were capable of making quite a bit of money, while I've only heard of a couple of people making much from sex, and..well..none from gambling (Though I never paid attention from the gambling).

Voted for the million. The reputation of my avatar I do not care about anyway, it's an avatar, nothing more. For me it represents me, and if I can get myself almost US$ 4.000 per month by ad farming (if that would still be allowed) in a virtual world, I would. US$ 400 is quite possible without being shameful, after all I run 2 successful businesses. I am not yet under the impression they will make the 4k yet though

Des, if you are here in SL for the $$ then just do whatever it is you think is okay for said money. if, for example, you are considering some pornotopia land but feel a bit squeamish about it, only you can decide if that is right for you.

the actions that others take after you've taken yours are not your responsibility. separating emotion from business transactions is a must. but yes, your personal morals and ethics will pay the price if deep down that is not something you believe should be occurring- but is occurring because you made it possible in the first place.

no one else can tell you "yes, it's okay" and rationalize for you. that is a demon you must slay on your own.

I would *like* to say, I wouldn't sell out for any price...but you know, $38,000 US per month buys an awful lot of ego salve, and I could always make an alt and make some new friends...it would be VERY tempting, at that level.

Ah, nothing planned. This was posted in reaction to the bot discussion, as exploration of the larger issues at play. Some could not care less about bot running; others find it appalling.

I don't personally run bots; 'spose it's possible but I've got far bigger fish to fry.

If you really could be "bought"....you would already be doing it big time.....it's pretty easy here.....and the anonymity from your RL self would make it even easier.

If you're not already doing it....you can't be "bought"....simple as that.....in spite of how you answered the poll.

Although some are running with it in SL.....it's not the majority.....and that's very comforting to see human nature play out like that.

I'm a landlord, both estate and mainland and I've sold estate parcels so I'm already in the evil category.

Intersting question really because I turned down someone who wants to open a wedding place this week because I don't think it's fair to inflict that on mainland. Now if they'd offered me shed loads of silly money I might consider it, largely because I'd be able to afford to buy the neighbours out.

i would say you can fill in this blank with any 'occupation' and get a completely different answer.

if it's 'bot running', i'm from the mentality that it's nothing more than a business strategy. i have no problem with it at all.

however, if you fill in the blank with 'excort services', i would quickly enter the appalled category.


in RL- if you (unmarried) sleep with your unmarried boss because you love him, then i see nothing wrong with that. if you sleep with him strictly to get ahead, that is appalling. but, that's just me. others would fine that perfectly legitimate business strategy.
