Should LL ban men who play female avatars?

LOL, I get that a lot in CI combat! Funny thing is I fight a lot with one particular female avie who happens to openly be a guy in RL...since we fight so much our styles are so similar I've occasionally been accused of being this guy's alt. =^.^=

Wonder why the question wasn't should LL ban nonhumans for potraying themselves as humans? I am cat in my first life.
Or if LL should ban women from living as men? I personally don't get why a person who was male identified want to be femle other then better clothes. Yet I understand the friends

I would have no desire to pretend to be female but that is personal choice. Been

I think more people should switch genders for period of time personally to understand

If it really bothers you: Quit cybering Dude then you won't have to worry if the pixelated gal is really a guy and have first life sex with the woman of your choice that will have you.

Of course an avatar's sex (and species) should match the player's RL attributes!

NOt only that, but each avatar should be based on pictorial images of the RL player, and matching the player's biometrics (measurements).

Proof of financial status should be required. Only those who are truly rich IRL should be allowed to appear rich in SL. To play as a homeless person, you must show proof of transience.

Finally, each player should be forced to take a standard personality profile test, so behavior can be automatically compared with test results. Failing to behave in accordance with RL personality profile will cause suspension from SL.

Anything else would be dishonest! LL must implement these requirements to encourage trust.

Other than that, you are free to experiment and have fun in SL. After all, it's YOUR IMAGINATION, YOUR WORLD!

Maybe LL should ban all us sexy, perfectly porportioned 25 year olds too if we are not such in RL........web cam verification, of course. How about those 6'4" hunks with 12" tools that woo us perfect Barbies?

After reviewing the arguments set forth in this thread about banning this or that avatar choice, I conclude there are only two bans that would solve this problem. !. Ban everybody except the OP, or 2. Ban only the OP. Personally I think Ignore is the way to go on this subject - aside from having a few laughs at the expense of those excessively uptight Chinamen, of course.

But heck, I'd like LL to do away with the female avatar shape entirely.

Like I mentioned on another thread, the ultimate outcome of this is that you would have to supply your real name and a series of photos of yourself in plain white underwear together with your height, then the verifier makes an avatar of your RL and it gets your RL name.

The Chinese 'Second Life' looks like it's destined to end up as an all-male one, which will degenerate into wargaming.

Surely the three biggest 'cheats' in SL are unaided flying, antigravity and teleporting. If we're going to take the fantasy aspect away from SL, those should surely be the first things to go! LOL

Has anyone here ever heard of ROLEPLAY! So some guy wants to play a woman, or a woman wants to play a guy. I have a male avatar, although I rarely play him. I don't understand what all the fuss is about. Besides, when voice gets more widely accepted, this will be a moot issue anyway. Still, I don't think it's anyone's business who you are in RL, when you're in a roleplay environment.

Hmm just occurred to me that if LL went this way, then Torley Linden might be an awkward employee. And Strife would presumably have to leave his/her place of honor.

Seriously, I have had a few friends burned by this (and a few more who DO this), and all I can say is: If you are going to use SL as a dating service, caveat emptor.

this DOES makes me want to try my "most generally unacceptable av appearance" idea.... for sociological testing purposes of course.... =)

Second Life is full of all kinds of avatars, played by all kinds of people. I don't think it matters one bit whether it's a man running around as a woman, a woman as a man, anyone as a furry or a robot or a walking cheeseburger. We are not who we are in SL. Why should we be forced to look like ourselves, regardless of gender, fur, or inanimate object?

It's been my experience that the people who care most about not having a male look female on SL are the people who are wanting to have sex with them. If they're looking for a real hookup with a real person, they ought to join a sex friend-finder or go out to a real bar. SL is virtual. You're not actually touching the person behind the keyboard. You're interacting with their mind. What's it matter what they're really like?

I know, I know. Some people will say 'but we're dealing with real feelings here!'. Well, the guy playing the dancing toaster isn't really a toaster in his RL, is he? Yet you can still call him friend. Why should it matter that he isn't a toaster? If you like his personality, it shouldn't matter what avatar he's wearing. And if you're that picky about the person behind the avatar, maybe you oughtta get out of SL and back into the RL where you can see straight up who you're dealing with.

Although granted there are still some dudes who look like ladies in RL...

A few might, mainly other toasters and perhaps a few adventurous humanoids, but by and large .....


People who have hangups about the RL sex of other avatars are basically insecure.
Their reaction is deep down at gut level, and is extremely difficult, if not impossible to reason with.

Those who are using SL to form a sexually-oriented RL relationship are a different case. They would be much better advised to use a service more widely-used than is SL.

I would have thought toaster+toaster sex is a somewhat lesbian affair. Surely only bread itself can penetrate a hot toaster slot the way the toast-gods intended, before filling her with crumbs and making her go pop?
