so if we already had it are they still gonna make us take this silly shot?

Yes. How else would they get the secret tracking radioisotopes into your bloodstream?

Okay, In Debra's defense, it is perfectly possible to earn a good, comfortable living in SL without having ever spent a dime of real money into it. I've been doing it for the last 17 months and, while I'm no millionaire in SL, I'm still living pretty comfortably.

Hello it is real money since it comes from real money and can be converted back into rel money its real money. Just because Debra or you do not put your hand in your pocket to put it in the game someone does and its not LL. So if you do think how much fun SL is and how you can do it all fo nothing remember to thank those of us who pay to let you play for free

Data gleaned indirectly from anonymous testimony of Navy wives of the affected crew via the internet radio show A Marine Disquisition :

*sigh*

Interesting stats. I call shenanigans. I've been in the Navy more than long enough to know how things work, and this is not the first time controversy over mandatory vaccinations has come up or generated sensationalist rumors or even news reports.

Could you perhaps cite *credible* references supporting your story above?

Well if personal anecdote is all you are after, I have family members who took flu vaccine and it was the only time they GOT flu - the same flu.

Do you know how a vaccine works?

A vaccine works by stimulating the body's immune system by giving it something to respond to. For most people, the vaccine is not strong enough to elicit a strong response. Most people report feeling just "a little off" if they feel anything at all. However, everyone's immune system reacts differently, and for some people, the vaccine makes the immune system believe it is under full attack by real, live viruses, and it reacts accordingly.

When someone has an extremely depressed immune system, they can get sick and not even know it until the disease has gone to an advanced state. Why? Because the immune system is not responding to the threat. Healthy people generally feel the onset of an illness, with sniffly noses, scratchy throats, and general feeling of fatigue. That is not the illness; that is the immune response to the illness. Without the immune response, you won't feel it until it's too late.

When you "got the flu" from the flu vaccine, it is likely that your immune system reacted to the vaccine as if it were the real thing, presenting the same symptoms you normally have with the flu.

No - I'm extremely stupid, which I'm sure is why you are patronising me.

I haven't heard anyone say they don't believe in pandemics - that's like saying one disbelieves in viruses. What I've heard people say is quite another thing. For instance, that there is no current pandemic, so some are questioning the attempts to drum up hysteria. Remember when news reports of rampant anthrax attacks had everyone scrambling for Cipro? Why not take a pitstop by www.fqresearch.org - he's dedicated over 10 years of his life to compiling 'facts and statistics' - and see which was more deadly in the long run?

But while you're mentioning Spanish flu - I had run across this article this morning, but hadn't bothered to post it here. No one here really wants to change their mind - but here is the article link now.

http://www.sixwise.com/Newsletters/2009/May/13/Is-Swine-Flu-Being-Exaggerated.htm

(As an added bonus it has the darkly hilarious guilt-and-fear-inducing ad for the LAST non existent pandemic. For a vaccine that left some crippled.)

Anyone who WANTS to can find the same information out there, that I can. And if they *don't* want to hear it, then why would I waste my time doing their research for them?

The evidnece that Linden Lab is contributing to the spread of the swine flu is intereting.

However, and I don't mean to de-rail the post, but I'm surprised that so many options could be closed off for the original poster because she refused to age-verify. When I look at the Events list, I see very few of those Adult icons. Most of the clubs with naughty themes appear to still be operating merrily on Mature land.

That is bad luck if all your favorite hang-outs happen to be the two or three in all of SL that actually went Adult.

Of course I can. Of course the wife's are going to go public while their husbands are still in the military. Of course the pentagon is going to come clean. Listen, it's very simple, start to make your own contacts, start to research yourself because that is the only thing that will convince you of anything.

No, its because the virus is still live; which is why vaccinations are responsible for outbreaks in the general public.

Hi Debra,

I admit I did question some of your points earlier in this thread, and I hope you don't take this the wrong way, I do think you're a tiny little bit of a "nutter".

The point is though that "nutters" in this context are good. Question everything is a motto to live by.

While my family and I will be getting the jab, I'm with you on the idea that, particularly in the case of H1N1, the value and potential efficacy of a vaccine is debateable. Anyone interested in forming their own opinion, rather than scoring cheap and ill-informed points, would appreciate that.

I'll suggest to you however, that unless you love this sort of thing, best just walk away.

As with most of these types of forums, there are the posters who are here to actually add value, and those that are here just to muck about.

From the look of things we've got a big bucket of the latter here.

We've got a few people who think that, because they are sufficiently aged to have squandered their time on the early implementations of the Internet only to have lived long enough to squander their time in SL , their opinion somehow has priority in a future they had no part in shaping... unless "shaping" equates to being able to search for "sex" in 1979 as well as 2009!

We then have people who think that a lengthy "career" in the navy is qualification enough in "how the world works" to excuse being crassly supercilious.

Neither group will appreciate the role of a dissenting voice, or a questioning intellect.

Good luck either way, and seriously, keep up the "nutty" just a little :)

Ummm... No.

I don't have anything against opposing viewpoints. I actually enjoy a good, intellectual debate. I do, however, expect anyone who makes broad, inflammatory, sensationalist claims to back up their claims with credible evidence if they want me to take them seriously.

Hi Katheryne,

Sorry, you're right, what I said was a bit "crass" in itself wasn't it?

I blame forums in general for bringing out the less attractive sides of people's personalities, particularly mine!

My opinion would be though that Debra has in all good faith put forward a point of view and then asked you to look at any data, not necessarily hers, and make up your own minds.

I just think that taking the p*ss while demanding "credible" evidence is an easy ploy.

Particularly when

(a) You apparently get to decide what "credible" is;

(b) If this is such a straightforward case of "nuttiness", supplying irrefutable "credible" evidence of your own should be easy. You haven't, in fact all you've done is use the old "Appeal to Authority" citing yourself as the "authority" based on your service in the Navy.

Your post said, "when you got the flu from the flu vaccine." The general 'you' would be like this, I'd think:

"when you get the flu..."

Anyway I apologize for my tone.

Perhaps in the forums we should use a bit of newspeak to distinguish "u" (the specific antagonist being addressed) from "you" (the world in general).

Pep (actually, I would prefer to use "one" for the latter, but it sounds so stilted.)
