It is such a shame watching how you all just roll over on your back and submit to this invasion of privacy. I will NOT submit. Why is it that Americans have such a problem with dealing with the fact that only Americans still believe they live in the land of the free. I will not comply with unconstitutional laws passed in the US when I don't even live there. The age verification came about because of that and its all because they want to control you people. All I want to do is go dancing in a club I like, listen to the music stream they have while chatting with someone I know for an hour. I guess we are sheep. We have been proving our age with documentation our entire lives. We have dulled ourself to the process. Soon they will just place a chip under our skin and we can just scan ourselves to play age verified games on the internet. _____________________

Really? I do not recall paypal having an age verification process. It's in the user agreement that you have to be 18 to use the service. |

I will not comply with unconstitutional laws passed in the US when I don't even live there. The age verification came about because of that and its all because they want to control you people. If they cared about children they would do something about all the child molesters working for social services that steal the children from their parents and place them under the control of the out of control family courts. All I want to do is go dancing in a club I like, listen to the music stream they have while chatting with someone I know for an hour. I hate to break this to you, but LL is an American company, operating under American laws. Even if one disregards the link between LL and American laws, you still have to contend with the fact that SL is a *private* service, and you must agree to abide by all of LL's whims and wishes if you wish to access their service. You are not being forced - either by American Law or LL whim - to do anything at all. You access the service *voluntarily*. If you don't agree with LL's rules, then don't log in. It's quite simple. _____________________

It is such a shame watching how you all just roll over on your back and submit to this invasion of privacy. I will NOT submit. You do not have to wear a dress to go out to eat, but you do if you want to eat at a place with a dress code. There are bars where I can go sit and have a drink and no one will ever ask for my ID. Then there are places that require an ID no matter what your age. I could rant about the invasion of privacy but there is no reason I have to put up with it other than I want to. There are plenty of other places to go. So, if you feel that strongly about it. Vote with your wallet and go. It really is that simple. If you have a better idea on how it should run, start up an OpenSim server and make your own rules. I am verified and able to go to adult land. No one has invaded my privacy one bit. LL knows me as Rhonda Huntress; they even have an email address for Rhonda Huntress. When I stopped using Paypal they have even had a credit card on file for Rhonda Huntress. In my honest and humble opinion, they are not asking enough questions. It is too easy for people to break real world laws without fear of punishment and being back in business in less than an hour with a fully verfied and bogus account if they are ever caught. Maybe I am just too politically conservative but I believe people should be held accountable for their actions. |

If I checked her profile, would I find she belonged to a Teabagger group? Debra, you say you won't submit when you already have. When you signed on to SL you agreed to a slew of terms, most of which aren't found in the Constitution. Perhaps you'd feel more comfortable playing solitaire in your unibomber shack hidden in the woods. Don't forget to line the walls with tin foil... it will help to deter "them" from eavesdropping. _____________________

Now that I have to be validated I can no longer go to most of the places I used to. where do you go that you have to be VALIDATED? for access to adult-rated sims you only need payment info on file either in SL or xstreet. _____________________

The age verification came about because of that and its all because they want to control you people. SL is primarily text-based - if you cannot read, you will have problems here and perhaps should think of some other form of recreation. If you read and understood those responses but choose to ignore them, then why are you posting in a discussion forum like this at all? . |

Had this discussion gone on a couple of years ago, I wonder if it would have went quite a different way.
People were loudly, vocally opposed to age verification, bank bans, gambling bans, ageplay bans... I wonder if a lot of those people simply took off already. This would happen regardless of the type of change, I think. _____________________

I have not rolled over, when i joined SL you had to give CC info so in SL removing that they allowed you in. I do not live in the US but i am verified also as well as with the CC and noting has happened. It does not control me no one forced me to come to SL or to stay in SL that is MY choice . What has LL to do with Children services you lost me there thats like blaming LL for the down turn in the world economy. No one is stopping you from going to a club not all clubs are on adult land or flagged. Really Debra i think you should be thankful you can be on SL for free after all it costs LL to have it up and running and it cost those who make and run the club you go to. In RL how many clubs can you go to and not have to spend a cent to be able to enjoy the hospitality of the venue? Your choice to verify or not , your choice to stay or go. Oh and if you use a card in RL for shopping or the likes and i am not talking about OL you may be suprised just how much info the governments have on you _____________________

So I just check adult on paypal and then tell Linden Lab I am an adult because paypal says so? That is not cool. All this was pointed out to LL frequently during the initial arguments some six months ago, and the only answer we received was, "it's not foolproof but it's better than nothing". |

Anonymous untraceable unverified porn from alt.sex and IRC onwards is what built the Internet. Did "unverified porn" build the internet? That's a moot point despite the fact that it's become the favourite "true fact" of those communities who slink around in the shadows, loving the pro-privacy environment right the way up to the point where they like to stand in the spotlight and take credit for the creation of the world wide web. Even if does transpire to be fair comment, just because it's been our past, thankfully doesn't make it necessarily our future. I guess we're all sufficiently self satisfied internet historians to know where the genesis of the internet was and what those pioneers had in mind for the future. From my perspective, I see the web evolving daily into something which just might fulfill that original promise, and to be honest if it means shaking out some unpleasant parasites and sending them off to find some other dank marginal environment, then I won't shed too many tears. Clicks are what built the internet, and as the internet becomes more accessible and mainstream so will the tastes and appetites which power those all important clicks. As for what LL are up to, as I said in a previous post, my opinion is that they're not trying to attract a new niche/demographic, they're simply trying to milk as much money as possible from the current one. |
