I don't think my avie looks like a hatrack, but I've gone more for the girl-next-door or hippie-chick look than anything else. I'm usually carrying a cat around, and I get more comments about her than anything else. People want to know where I got her. I also ride around on a bicycle or a segway, and I get a lot of questions about those too. Maybe it sidetracks them from asking about sex? I've had offers, but not a whole lot of really rude or persistant ones. "No, thanks" is generally enough. I've gone on to plenty of polite conversations with fellows once they understand that's as far as I want to go. I'm married in RL, I feel like cybering would be cheating in some way, and people respect that. The ones who don't usually go away when they find out I'm old enough to be their mother. I can count the griefers who didn't want to take no for an answer and made serious pests of themselves on the fingers of one hand, and I just teleported somewhere else.

I'm usually very pleasant about it. I might even talk back for a bit, if a guy seems nice, after all, I do enjoy meeting people in general.

But my usual reply is that I'm flattered, but I'm taken although, not partnered. If I'm using my alt, they can read that in my profile and it says so clear as day and it's the truth. Or, I say that I'm in the area waiting for someone or very busy on my way someplace else. That usually does the trick. Or just ignore. I'm good at that - pretending I just didn't even notice/hear them.

My mom used to say, you catch my flies with honey. I think it's a good saying too.

However, there have been times where someone is very persistant and quite vulgar in which case, you have to resort to downright sarcasm, degrading humor, or what have you. I am not above putting someone in their place! I did follow one guy all over a sim once blasting him about his behavior because he was very rude and crude in his approach to me. He couldn't run away from me fast enough.

Kelly, Mystitool has a "play dead" feature in it. It makes you fall to the floor in a "faint". Could be pretty useful for this! You can get the free version, which is pretty feature loaded in itself, just search for the name "Mystitool", I think it was at a place called something like Avondale Square, a small store in it, and the free version is by the window at the front of the store.

Funny thing about that. I can't tell you how many times I've been approached by apparent "johns" telling me I could "work" for a living because I"m so cute! Now, how many of you ladies have had that happen? Is this something that goes on regularly? Talk about men being persistant! I had one guy on a beach, who would not leave me alone about this.

if im feeling fiesty i say i am emotionally unstable, lonely and desperate for a partner and could we please go get married as soon as possible? that usually sends them running for the hills, which -- of course -- is my intent.

those are the funniest, and generally amongst the least interesting, of men who make passes. (the least interesting are the ones who never managed to make it past changing their appearance from "noob" and are in Linden minted clothing straight from Help Island... and their rezdate is already several days to weeks, sometimes MONTHS old)

Some men I know pretty well, make constant hits and they never get on my nerves at all! But its all in good fun and neither side takes anything seriously. I suppose its a matter of doing it with style. Having a sense of literary style, well... that goes a long way for me

I just ignore them If they continue, I usually just mute them. If they make a dramaplosion, I might say something nasty just before muting them

hasn't been so bad for me in SL, I tend to stick around friends, avoid most newbie area if possible, and frequent low traffic places (odd how courage to say stupid #$%^ comes in groups in SL, and in seclusion in RL.)

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind some playful flirting while talking with some one, and play right back reglardless of gender matching my taste (but I always let em know I'm taken and not going anywhere with it, some people get weird ideas otherwise)

My experience has been a little more direct. If I can recall correctly it was more on the lines of: "I'm a pimp. You could make money sucking cocks."

Yes it is!!! A discussion group to evaluate the various options for humiliating pushy blokes.

Just pointing and laughing at their prim bits is usually pretty effective. "Oh look. it's just like a real willy only smaller." "Six feet of pure dynamite. Shame about the two inch fuse." etc etc.

Why do women feel they need to do anything other than say No (if that much) then Mute the person? As in real life, I don't feel the need to react to strangers who are harassing me. I'm certainly not going to be polite and hold a conversation with them. And going through all the effort to change AVs/teleport away/do bad things to the harasser only encourages them to do more of the same to other women, just to see their reactions. These guys are a type of griefer, folks. Do you give other types of griefers the attention they crave?

I'm in the coat rack class. It's very very rare. Once in 3 months, perhaps, where it just wasn't appropriate. The other two times were in locations where I couldn't really expect otherwise, but the other person was polite and careful in both cases.
