Porpoises! They are in my bay hunting for herring which are schooling right now. Its misty foggy and I wont stay down at beach long. My tomatoes are back under plastic. My watercress is HUGE. I like it in sandwiches with a hard-boiled egg. And some ham sliced off the bone.

I am going down to my Mum's and we're having TAKE-OUT "two piece" fish and chips tonight. Then we're watching re-runs of Wimbledon and maybe The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency. Ahhh summer!

I'm aware of what he enjoys, and it most certainly isn't intended to be thrown around as new information, at least by me. However, as this thread proves in the case of the OP, it IS new information to someone all the time.

I am sure that he has people whom he resists the temptation to treat like crap; most trolls do. That doesn't necessarily excuse the mistreatment of others just because he has a few "pets" that he just so happens to spare from his pretentiousness. Trolls always like to keep a few "friends" around to give them support.



I think you and Pep both completely missed the point here.

You say: "You can get along with Pep". I take that as the general case usage of "you", and not the person you were responding to specifically. Please correct me if I am wrong there.

Now, I have no idea what you or Pep understand in terms of "getting along" but, in my book, that's a two way street. In order for me to "get along" with him, he has to "get along" with me. Thus, that is the crux of my response to you where I question how one can "get along" with Pep, when he makes no effort to "get along" with anyone else ("pets" excluded). Sure, you get along with him because he gets along with you. You've already established a rapport, for whatever reason. *I* see no incentive to establish a rapport, so the best incentive I have is to permanently mark him as a completely useless waste of protoplasm and put him on ignore (which I have already said I don't do, simply because I don't see anyone as such a waste). I can either ignore him (which I do, most of the time), or come to spar with him for entertainment value. There are certainly no end of people here who enjoy a ringside seat to watch the Palooka get repeatedly and thoroughly mauled, let alone by a Dragon.

All that said, there is no requirement to "get along" with anyone. However, if people who don't "get along" are going to end up in the same venue interacting, then that *will* lead to friction and conflict. I am already aware that is what Pep seeks; maybe he's a terminal masochist, I don't know. It doesn't matter; people are still going to feed the troll, regardless of why he's a troll, simply because that is the only way they know to deal with him. Most likely, if it was in RL, it would end up with him missing a few teeth when all was said and done, but people will respond to being ragged on.

Thus, when he said that I "didn't have a clue" about "getting along" with him, he was more or less telling you that you don't have a clue. You said that "you" can get along with him. If it is clueless of me to ask how (because I didn't see any possible avenue), then it is just as clueless to say that it can happen in the first place. THAT is why I said he was beating you up. More or less, he disputes your assertion, using his normal acerbic zeal.

I suppose you could consider him to be the reluctant poster child for the virtue of "turning the other cheek", but not everyone subscribes to it, in part or in whole.

Just to be clear, I am not calling Laurin Pep's "pet", intending it in any demeaning way. Clearly, they have a valued friendship. My point in saying it is that it is a well-known tactic for forum trolls to foster and exploit relationships (even unintentionally) to garner support, since they rarely act alone. I am not specifically referring to Laurin in that case, but anyone in general who could be subjected to such behavior.
