You can hide groups????
From: Jerboa Haystack
Open up your group list, and "Info" a group. On the first tab, there should be a checkbox labeled something like "Show in Profile", or "Hide in Profile" or something. I don't remember the exact wording.
Actually, the group can keep you from hiding it. There is a setting that affects whether or not that checkbox is available to members.

Keeping your groups displayed is a nice way to filter out people you don't want to interact with. The one's that get scared off generally won't be as much fun for me to talk to.

This what i do.

Hi my name is Tex, I'm a profile peeker.

I love taking a glance at people's profiles. Many tend to be run-of-the-mill and not all that interesting. (Mine certainly fits in that category)

Some people do have very interesting profiles and have obviously put some thought and effort into them.

As far as the groups go, typically they have they least influence on my initial impression. Of course there are exceptions if they belong to certain types of groups, such as dolcett or young republicans.

Just kidding about one of those. ;)

when my alt was less than a month old, I was in a clothing store. a lady came up to me & started to chat. she finally asks 'want to go somewhere special?' the only group showing in her profile was House of Pain. no thanks, not into that..

"House of Pain was an Irish-American hip-hop group who released three albums in the early to mid 1990s before lead rapper Everlast decided to pursue his solo career again. The group is best known for its 1992 hit single "Jump Around", which reached #3 in the United States, #6 in Ireland and #8 in the United Kingdom."

If I decide to read a profile, the shown groups do help give me an idea of what a person is interested in. No group affiliation would cause me to run screaming by itself, but they might affect the level of interaction with that person, if any.

How about we look at each other's profiles and give our opinions? Sometimes we are blind to what others see.

To her own question as well!

Pep (Doesn't actually know whether Jig is joking, this time, but leans towards her not realising.)

I swear I didnt know. So I always am nervous when my partner asks if I have added anything to my profile. I could have saved myself a lot of grief if I had known that. Why don't they tell you these things???
Isnt that what people on forums are meant to do???

I may be over-emotional but I make good reading. My life is interesting to me so I thought I'd share it.
Anyway, that was like learning that people can bug your conversation in sl.
I swear if I had known that I wouldnt have had to explain about "High Society Girls for Studs" to Hal.

The trouble with groups is, if you are a land baron and deed land a fair bit, you have a tendency to be in whatever group the residents have, if only long enough to deed.

Sometimes longer, if there's a question of which parcel, &c.

And usually, people just make me another group owner as it is *very* unlikely that I'm going to risk the estate for the fifty or hundred dollars I'd make nosing around and selling off their mainland. I'm in and out of several groups a day, easily.

So no, I'm not actually that into this fetish or that, and no, I didn't merely hide the group later ~ it was a resident group. But of course, nobody will believe that excuse... just keep presuming as normal, I suppose it makes for a more interesting profile experience, true or not!
