Yes, in a good way, you scared me. I've just found so much feedback and so many interesting points that I am scared of how I am going to handle this... This is the third time I've read all the posts and I am still discovering new things... at this point my head is burning. Thanks to all for the answers. ![]() I would supply my version, but I have a strong suspicion that even just the *names* of the places I look for misbehaviour would get the post withdrawn. The only thought that occurs to me is, could it be that you were boring her with this long drawn out process, and by the time you got to he last planned spot, she was about ready to explode? There's an *immense* variety of different approaches to relationships in SL; a simple trawl of the number of spots whose name ends in "Alley" should show you that. Not everybody thinks of visually impressive places as inherently romantic... you have to work out what they like doing, too. In your drawn up plan... how much of it was a surprise to her, and how much was mutually agreed beforehand? |

PS Lear, I am surprised at you; you usually read posts before you comment. |

I did read the posts, and after carefully rereading, I stand behind my earlier posts. I could argue them, but I won't bother. Regardless, your tone was insufferable. I will say no more on this tangent. Pep ( . . . even if you are more stubborn than some of the others involved. )_____________________

When someone annoys you like this, the easiest thing to do is Mute them. Just right click their avatar and select Mute. They become a silent gray silhouette. Problem solved. hi Lindal! I know how to mute people. I just decided that to block that guy it was too much. As I see this caused some controversy I will try explain why I didn't block that guy. First to say that I've just read the IM text. The guy was not copy-pasting the same text multiple times but he was using caps (100%). Even his SL name was all in caps, lol! This is what happened: - He says "hi" - I answer "hi" - He writes five lines of well written text in a row (already prepared?). His speech is oriented to empathize with me while saying bad words about my gf and suggesting me to leave her asap. - I say to him something like: "thanks for the tip, but this it's my own business". I say some good words about my gf and I politely ask him to stop sending me IM's. - He writes four lines of text. This time sentences are shorter and pointless. - I ask him politely if he is done. He writes ten more lines of text, short sentences again with no new information. - I say some more good words about my gf again. I repeat that I am busy and I say him good night! - He says good night and he leaves. So, why I didn't just block him? I thought that I was going to be capable of handling the situation with no need of blocking him. I think it worked! To block him could mean a sign of weakness like if I had nothing to say to refute his words. That's why I didn't block him. BTW, thanks Linda for what you know. It's in my "pending things to do" list ![]() _____________________

Pep (At least the OP has the defence of being an ESLer when his response suggested he didn't fully comprehend my advice.) Ummm...wow! Open mouth, insert shoe store! Pep... Before labeling someone an "ESLer" (which, in itself, is rather rude) for not "comprehending your advice", you might want to read the post carefully to make sure YOU comprehended the post! _____________________

Ah, but Katheryne....if you are a member of the ESL club, and English is your only language.....what's-his-name will come in and interpret your post for you....just one of the perks. |

While others behave in such a fashion I shall point out their inadequacies in a way that makes it difficult for them - or others potentially prone to sloppy/lazy/ignorant behaviour - to ignore. He did *not* say that she has "some sort of trouble with a stalker". It was actually in his follow up post that he inelegantly expressed his *own* (misconceived) concern that "she has an enemy out". I think it is evident from your own miscomprehension of his posts that the OP does *not* speak English "just fine"! Pep (cuts the Gordian knot!) Silly question, but how do *you* know she doesn't have an enemy? And if he didn't discuss it with her, how in blazes would he know either way? Frankly, the only practical way to find out was to talk to her about it. If there is something in the OP's posts that gives any indication that the he had any clue either way as to the identity or motives of the harrassing party, I am not seeing it. Perhaps I don't have your magical comprehension skills. |

To block him could mean a sign of weakness like if I had nothing to say to refute his words. In general, it's a waste of time trying to argue with fools. Usually, it only serves to encourage them. Thus the common and very good advice: "Don't feed the trolls." It is worthwhile to give the benefit of the doubt and attempt to communicate. But once it's clear that you're talking to a fool, best to simply let it go. There's no winning when you play their game. |

I respectfully disagree. There's a great quote about those who argue with fools; I wish I could remember it and perhaps someone will help me out. _____________________

Sounds like you are going to have lots of fun and adventures....you have a great attitude. ![]() hi, mickey! Very kind, thanks! Yes, I've read what an user said about my English in consecutive posts: "being an ESLer" "inelegantly expressed" "the OP does *not* speak English "just fine"!" "For goodness sake, read the OP's obviously clumsy English" "poor English" hehe, I know very well how bad my English is. I know this may cause confusions, misconceptions, lack of depth, lost of details... Fortunately I use to find smart and tolerant people who understand what I try to say despite my many mistakes. Was it necessary to talk about how bad my English is in almost every post he opened? btw, I love the fact that the he is the most active poster of the thread that the moron opened. ![]() _____________________

I would be delighted to be able to express myself in a second language as well as you do in English. This! _____________________

Fortunately I use to find smart and tolerant people who understand what I try to say despite my many mistakes. I don't think your English is bad at all and I thought you story was fun and charming (even though things didn't go exactly how you wanted!). Oftentimes foreigners say the most beautiful and meaningful things if you are listening. Was it necessary to talk about how bad my English is in almost every post he opened? No, but that's just Pep. Don't take it personally. As others have mentioned, most native English speakers don't pass muster with him ![]() _____________________

As would be fairly evident to those who read the words written, not what others have written about my words, my posts here were about the inadequacies of the readers of the OP's posts rather than the inadequacies of the OP's posts. Some have conceded, once I had pointed it out, that they *had* misunderstood the OP. If you don't even notice (as was immediately apparent to me, but not to Smithy by his own admission) that a poster is an ESLer, then you are likely to read a post differently from the way you would if you believe that English is their mother tongue. May I point out (Katherine, Alexander and anyone else who seems to have missed the nitty gritty of the matter) that *I* was the one who understood the OP correctly when it seemed like everyone else had followed an initial inaccurate over-emotional over-reaction by Rhonda, and were banging on about the (entirely imaginary) enemies that his date had?
Pep (And I still contend that it would have been better to have muted the griefer immediately, rendering irrelevant any discussion by the OP about what he did.) PS But then, this is the guy that gives the segments of his dates marks out of ten. Do you reckon he'll be back next week giving his opinions on her cyber-competence? PPS If Mickey thinks his English is excellent the OP *really* has problems. ![]() _____________________
