How Do You Know If You've Been Ignored?

I never could see the point of 'Ignore'. I've been extremely annoyed by other posters in the past but then again I don't doubt I've rubbed quite a few the wrong way myself.


But you don't feel obliged to read every post from people who annoy you, do you?

If you keep quoting someone directly, and they never respond to you, then you are on technical ignore or mental ignore. Same thing.

If you pop into someone's thread, and they seem to respond to the majority of posts, but not yours....and if you pop in again, and again....no response....then you are on ignore. Mental ignore is as satisfying, if not more so....than using the technical ignore.

Some people put their Ignore List in their forum signatures. That would be a clue.

Some people have very long signatures.

As a matter of fact, I often read posts from folk who have annoyed me. This is one: some of Jig's threads can really wear my fuses out - especially the recent batch. Oddly enough, I also have a morbid desire to read Pep when he posts.

Putting people on "ignore" always seemed disrespectful to me. And a little childish, maybe, like putting your fingers in your ears and humming loudly "I can't HEEEEEEAAR you!" . . . :D

What can I say, I'm a childish avatar.

I have six people on ignore.

Four of them I could do the Des style manual ignore and just not read their posts. The ignore function just makes that easier.

I don't even remember the names of the other two, but they pissed me off and I don't want to ever accidentally help them sometime. The ignore list helps my bad memory.

I've only told one person I'm ignoring them, and yes I did that to be disrespectful. It was a somewhat childish, passive aggressive way of calling them a twat.

Yeah, sorry. I realize in hindsight now that my posting came across as a bit more judgmental than I intended. (I've been having a problem with that kind of thing lately . . . maybe I should put myself on ignore?)

These are just MY personal feelings about "ignore" and "mute"; I would feel that *I* was being childish and disrespectful were I to use them. I am sure that others have excellent reasons for doing so . . . your comment about having a "bad memory" being a case in point.
