Alts being used DELIBERATELY for malice

I was IMd earlier today by someone not previously known to me, purporting to be female and attracted to me, sympathising with my shabby treatment in various threads where my appreciation of good English has been confused with elitism. There was an obvious suggestion that I might be interested in becoming more intimate with this person, who has an attractive avatar from perusal of the profile, although in common with most alts, only the first page has any content.

I am afraid that I am always wary of trojans bearing gifts and IMd back suggesting that there was a 75% chance of the person actually being a male masquerading as a female, and probably one of those who had been upset by me yesterday, a 20% chance of it being a female who had been upset by me, and a 5% chance of it being a genuine.

On contacting this person inworld I invited them to disprove the first hypothesis by entering voice. The expected refusal followed, together with a disavowal of any intent to deceive. I then spent some considerable time explaining my position from the previous day (it would be nice if people nowadays actually read what was written rather than selecting emotional words out of context) and eventually elicited a confirmation that this person had not approached me for the purposes indicated in the initial IM. The actual purpose of the contact was not admitted, but my interpretation of it is that the person wanted to obtain sufficient information to attempt to make some sort of a fool out of me. As people who read my posts know, I do quite a good job of doing that for myself, with out anybody else's help. I told this person who I believed "her" to be and the alt denied that I was correct, although there were several verbal clues which indicate that I might be right.

So what should I do? Confront the person I believe to be the main? Do an abuse report on the alt? Publish the name of the alt so that they are shamed publicly? Ask around to see if people know who the alt belongs to? Forget it and get a life?Or can you recommend some action more constructive than simply muting the avatars inolved?

All suggestions gratefully received. I can not publish the relevant names here but I will contact you via PM/IM to let you know in case you might be able to help identify the alt's main definitively.

If ignorance is bliss, then the mute feature is heaven!

Ask yourself if this person is worth your time? If not, mute and ignore.

What relevance does the original thread have?

And how do I get to know who the malicious main is that might be hanging around looking for further ways to do me harm?

but seriously, i have NO idea what thread you are talking about, but i do not like this scenerio. my advice is to ignore the alt, and ignore the person you suspect it to be. no sense in ARing, cuz LL won't do anything. and publishing the name will get you in trouble here in the forums (since Katt's announcement of such).... just let it go. WHO is the fool in this situation? surely not you.

Just curious why a suspected alt of someone who may be upset with you has caused you such stress or concern to post such a thread as this. It's just a little beyond me is all.

I will respond to your post despite my fondness for sentence fragments, improper punctuation, frequent misspellings and lazy proof reading habits. And no I don't think you are an elitist (I think I spelled something wrong.....oh pooh, the dictionary is way over there.... oh well. ) I just think that this is an area you care about. Whatever floats your boat, hun.

Anyway, on to the answer to your question.

Just mute them. Learn all about the wonderful mute options. I Love Them! Then forget all about what they said, and go on about your business of having fun, whatever that fun is.

Ignore it, if you start getting harassed then use the AR function.

I know you've ticked off some people here, including me, but why on earth would anyone want to do you harm?
While overbearing, arrogant and just a bit last-century, nothing of what you've posted was so outrageous as to invite retaliation of that sort. Nor are your posts even the worst we've seen here (unless I missed some interesting ones )

It's not particularly upstanding of you to point a finger at those here who've opposed your views. The term witch hunt comes to mind. Perhaps you need to learn to take forum opposition not so personally.

I'd also suggest you mute this person and get on with whatever you do. Or just tell them that, since you're ready to partner with someone as you say, you're not interested. You can't AR someone based on your interpretation of what they've said.

Unfortunately, peppy, your schemes are about as transparent as the window beside me. If that's how you get your jollies, then so be it.
Although you've accused the majority of folks here of suffering from a room-temperature IQ, you may be underestimating this crowd's ability to look through your trouble-making.
