Under the um... circumstances I can understand a fair amount of misunderstanding. Really didn't think this thread was going to keep running this long though! Have slept 8 hours and done a days work to get back to this! Wow!

In a world with organized search capabilities and teleports, how is a billboard that most people going to ignore going to be effective at advertising in the purest sense? The only thing it is effective at is riling up the neighbors.

It's kind of you to work with your neighbors to come to some agreement, but
you have to understand that you (or some other advertiser) showing up as a
neighbor unexpectedly is as unwelcome as getting email spam every day.

And the fact that no one can do much of anything about it only compounds the frustration.

So, take your profits and enjoy them, your customers obviously value your service,
your victims, however, are unlike to ever be happy with you unless you share your
profits with them... and even that may not be enough to make you a welcome member of their neighborhood.

No there is an intelligent person.... Yes I am aware. I do my best, I dont cycle ads, they dont work as well as 24 hr coverage, i tested the theory myself. I understand that there is some tension. Eventually advertisers will have ads in mainly commercial areas, I know I strive for it, or alonng an empty field. But I do not want to get into it anymore, I am tired of the Trolls. I try my best to run a good ad business. I work on ideas that I can use to advertise that are not as unwelcome. These things take time.

Its a shame that a good many of shameless aholes are extorting people with 16's. I do not.. tho in the past have hammer a few simply because of their impudent behaviour I assure you its not the norm. Everyone needs to realize that there are some advertisers out there that are actually trying to do something. Its going to take time.... but I feel confident that people will see change in the next yr or yr and a bit.

Tanika, if you will go back and read my posts, not once have I made an accusation about your business practices. I do not know if you are an ad farmer or if you simply sell legitimate advertisements on the side of buildings. I haven't taken the time or effort to go in world to locate any of your ads and therefore did not feel confident in judging either way.

I have felt confident in judging your posts. That gives me a clear judgment about you regardless of how you run your business in SL. A good business person would retort in a professional manner. Any good business person I know, if they felt the argument was hopeless and a waste of their time, would simply do the smart thing and walk away.

I've wondered about this since I moved away from my last, blighted view. I suppose the ad buyers would have to be getting some upswing in business or they wouldn't keep putting money into it.

EDIT: And as for garum and liquamen, I think I'd actually try them given the opportunity. I do some Thai cooking and have never had a problem with that kind of fish sauce.

It's because ads can encourage people to search for your business by name, thus making sure you appear at the top of the search.

Do you pay attention to the ads, Yumi? I sure as hell don't. Especially when they make a Linden Road look like the Red Sea parted and left behind a ton of multicolored shit.

I really doubt many people are pausing as they fly by the ads long enough to to do a search. I couldn't even tell you what's on any of them.

I agree Qie. She/he just doesn't get it and although what she does creates a negative response here and inworld and although whoever buys the ads gets lots of negative publicity, she doesn't get it. Sort of like the email spammers...anything as long as it makes money. We are either marks to these people or wrong to not want them invading our lives.
