I would rather close my account than make money the way she does. She lowers the value of every single person's experience in SL and makes our world and uglier place with her business practices. If that is success, I want to be a failure.

Some people think its clever to trade short term gain for long term loss. I've seen it before and at the end of the day, they are sitting at the side of the road with no friends, no respect and not in the best of health. There is something about not taking care of your character and your heart that gets you at the end.

At some point, either because of a viewer that mutes Ads or a community protest, these as cutters will loose their cash cow. And they will have acquired no real skills in the process to bring to the next project..eventually it catches up with them because people say "wow, you really can't do anything useful! I have seen this over and over again. They get careless because it seems to work and they get arrogant. They think they are very clever, much more clever than the people who make an effort and are responsible for how their actions affect others. Ever seen an old con artist? Not a pleasant sight...

I think you have to be honest with yourself before you delve into SL business (just like RL business), do you have the time and discipline to follow through?

If you have the time, knowhow, and skill-set that SL requires, you can create a flourishing businesses. It may take a couple passes before you get it right...but that's what evolution does best--trial and error.

The question is, do you have the time to make it happen? Can you sacrifice that time without pulling the plug on your first life? Can you circle the drain long enough to make the transition?

Discipline and dedication...with a little natural talent, and you can make it so.

Michael Wins This Thread. I'm not in a businees for mostly these reasons. It's not what i want from SL. I think a lot of peole think they can run a business here, think it'll be turn key and cash check, but it isn't so.

Glad you noticed!

Being griefed in excess of 3 months and the owner will not respond is frustrating. If its yours you deserve and account ban and all alts too. If it is not why dont you help out to fix the griefer problem. I am trying to run a business here..

Oh btw, after being really ticked off, thanks to you I am sure.... I calmed down, moved my ad to a better parcel a few doors down and put mine for sale, without the threat. Even I get mad about you irresponsible griefers who think you own mainland. I have to deal with at least 15 of you everyday inworld!

You should be sure of whats what before you post... it changed yesterday already, after I cooled off and had time to return. My prices reflect the monetary amount due to me because of griefers like you.

You should all keep that in mind.

And you should keep in mind that you create a negative response in SL and serve not the residents or the people ignorant enough to pay for your ads. If it took work, I'm surprised you couldn't come up with something more positive.

It isn't okay to harass your neighbors or charge bizarre amounts for your ad parcels because its the fault of people who make you angry... You just aren't a team player and down the road, some situation will ask you to have those skills and you won't have them.

I dont sell land unless I have got a better location in the same sim, i sell for under 5k if I do

I dont spin ads

I dont run bots

I dont run laggy scripts

I do...

-sell advertising space

-work with reasonable neighbors to find an equatable solution for the both of us, and work with other groups in sl that wanna better nicer looking SL.

-work toward doing wat I do better and thats not saying more money better but ppl relations better.

I will not stop advertising because of Trolls and bigots inworld. This is the last post I think simply because of the lack of intelligence and understanding in this forum. Stereotyping isnt going to help!

Can anyone tell me how she does it?

L$300k/month is about US$300/week or about US$14k/year. Unless she already lives in or very near France, that's not a whole lot of RL money..

Would I take it if somebody offered? Damn right I would. Would it be worth a huge time investment? Not even close..

The garum and liquamen mentioned in the article were the ancestors of Worchestershire sauce. After gutting their fish, the Romans would throw the guts n stuff into big jars on the docks in Rome. The jars sat for days and days in the hot sun and eventually pickled. Someone must have tasted it (ewww) and decided it was good stuff. The Romans imported it to Britain, where the Brits added spices and stuff to it. Read the ingredients on a bottle of Worchestershire sauce and you'll see vinegar and anchovies listed....

Just a little food trivia for y'all.

Um to get back to the original post ...

I would like to thank the forum members for their insightful and considered input.

It had never, for one fraction of a pico second crossed my dull witless brain that my new found idol might have been massaging the figures a little. Or that the means of getting unknown sums of money might be generally regarded in a bad light.

Curse my dull little brain!

I have learnt my lesson and will choose my idols more carefully in future.

Once again thank you all!

adfarmer definition

adfarmer/adcutter = a person who takes a larger parcel of land and subdivides them into smaller sections of land, very usually 16sq M parcels all totalling the initial larger parcel in sq M.

(note: distasteful if done to a parcel larger than 128sq M)

advertiser = to offer goods for sale or rent, solicit funds, etc., by means of advertisements that constitute coverage of any given area or areas

SL is extra, I have a day job that pays well enuf for the house, car, etc etc... as does the better half. This is my fun and actually, it has been LOL

I'm getting this really strong vibe that this is an adfarmer who somehow really doesn't understand that what she does is adfarming (as opposed to adcutting), and that genuinely doesn't see what was wrong with particle-spamming a sim as long as it may have gotten removed a stray prim encroaching her adplot from an adjacent abandoned parcel. I sense she honestly believes that she's trying to be the "good advertiser."

There's usually a reason for living in denial, and a cause for always feeling persecuted. It's not our place to fill-in the RL backstory here, but I'm guessing it's not a happy one.

I don't know that the problem behaviors are accessible to education or reasoned argument, but I'm pretty sure ridicule isn't going to help.

It had never, for one fraction of a pico second crossed my dull witless brain that my new found idol might have been massaging the figures a little. Or that the means of getting unknown sums of money might be generally regarded in a bad light. Curse my dull little brain! I have learnt my lesson and will choose my idols more carefully in future. I'm getting this really strong vibe that this is an adfarmer who somehow really doesn't understand that what she does is adfarming (as opposed to adcutting), and that genuinely doesn't see what was wrong with particle-spamming a sim as long as it may have gotten removed a stray prim encroaching her adplot from an adjacent abandoned parcel. I sense she honestly believes that she's trying to be the "good advertiser." There's usually a reason for living in denial, and a cause for always feeling persecuted. It's not our place to fill-in the RL backstory here, but I'm guessing it's not a happy one. I don't know that the problem behaviors are accessible to education or reasoned argument, but I'm pretty sure ridicule isn't going to help.
