From: Dakota Tebaldi I'd tend to agree, but that would necessarily mean there are a number of not-right-thinking people in SL. I'm looking for the flaw in that argument and I can't see one. Personally I think that is the case. Of course, which camp any one person is in is a highly subjective thing and not necessarily one which several parties could agree on - especially the person themselves.

From: Solanghe Sarlo Oooo, but sometimes it just gets on my nerves! I have tp'd out of so many popular stores because I was just in a MOOD and fed up with seeing tiny tee shirts that can barely contain ginormous breast above bootie shorts that may as well be underwear on a "oiled" skin with 10 inch heels blinging to the max setting...you get the picture.
I mean, we're shopping for prefabs people!! What is the point??
Maybe they want to know how they will look coming home after the oil wrestling event at the honky tonk?

From: Kira Cuddihy I would be more than glad to let you borrow it honey. When I went into the store to buy the thing, the owner of the store asked me what I was going to cut with it. I looked at him with a wierd look in my eyes and said to him "trees". The guy standing next to him almost fell on the floor laughing. Five minutes later I walked out of the door with my pretty new chain saw slung over my shoulder. It's funny how much cheerfully singing "If I Had A Hammer" and smiling a little too brightly will unnerve the man behind the till at B&Q (substitute your own local DIY chain if not UK).

From: Michael Bigwig Well yes...and no. If a straight-laced prude wandered onto a BDSM sim...no ones going to say, 'hey, take off your clothings and put a gimp suit on.' But..but...(/me hangs head in shame) They said I had to... ...and then they did...things...

From: Lana Tomba I'm just amazed how people import RL ethical and moral expectations into SL about how others dress but won't do the same for how they treat other people.
It's a CARTOON .....they're pixels.......BUT
The pixels are being controlled by REAL PEOPLE.
Some will laugh at people because their perceptions of what is tasteful is different.
Others will pass judgment on them for that taste..call them names..get upset..because they chose the "wrong" pixels. Which all of it is terribly subjective.
How in the world can one compare the rl louvre with a virtual louvre in SL. I suppose because furries aren't "real" they shouldnt have shown up to the louvre either?..wouldn't be appropriate?
I dont think ONCE i have ever looked at an avatars appearance in SL and thought "wow....how inappropriate".
On the other hand I can say that I have thought peoples actions were appropriate. but thats subjective too. I can't really pass judgement because I don't know what they've been thru to lead them to those actions. so yea I guess i'm guilty too..on a parallell plateau.
~Lana Tomba Lana, I wasn't making a judgement on what is "appropriate"" or what is not - I believe I had already said that the notion of appropriate is subjective and we all have our opinions about such things. I was simply expressing my opinion on what bothers me personally. Our views are different and that's ok. It's what makes SL and RL so nice; we don't have to agree. The comment I made about the "Louvre" was trying to illustrate what I think is a common observation: that it's the kind of event that you normally see Avi's dressed up in formals or sort of "up casual" wear. You generally don't see "stripper gear" at those kind of things. *shrugs* Some people do tend to bring their RL ideas, morals/ethics into SL. I do because my Avi is merely an extension of my RL self. I know that is not true for all, but it is for me. *smile*

I do think its an extension of RL mores. For example in RL strip clubs, nude beaches, etc you will find naked people. And sadly, ugly genitalia.

Do you actually look at (cam around) the other avatars when you're shopping in SL? Or at the Louvre? Just asking.
I don't own a pair of spiked heels or 'underwear' shorts, but I guess my av might be considered a little strange looking. I would change for a more normal av if I went to a themed club or party but do any of you think I should also change when walking around, or shopping/visiting virtual museums?

I know exactly what you are saying. One day I went into a store and bought a "trencher", walked out of the store *yes in my stilletos* with it placed carefully over my shoulder and all of the guys in sight cut me a wide berth. For those that don't know what a trencher is, it looks like a very nasty pick axe. mmm yes /me loves tools. They don't have a clue that I am a short blonde woman.

Let's play "You Choose the Punchline": 1) As long as they don't call me late to dinner. 2) You should see what they call Grandma! 3) Listen bud, You give thanks your way, and the skank will give thanks her way. 4) Gravy? That's not gravy! 5) Ironic that they're celebrating a tradition that dates back to the puritans, isn't it?

she also makes her green bean soup um I mean casserole in a slow cooker. You boil it for a while, then add carrots, celery, onion, potatos and some herbs and spices. Remove the bones. Delicious turkey soup. Kira: On the tv show, were they boiling it in oil? Fried turkey is pretty good. Boiling it in water, then taking it out and eating it would be awful.

hehe Thanx .. ya know the more I think of it..how things have changed. I remember my first day in SL back in 04..now im not saying this was everyones experience..but back in those days..seeing an avatar with a title that said "Escort" didn't hold the same meaning as it does today. The same goes with different looking avatars. We used to see nude play dough avatars all the time. And if a man even owned a penis...he wore it more for the novelty of having a penis in a virtual world than anything else. I went to a house warming party that someone invited me to...turned out to be a swingers event ...then fell into a group of people who invited me to an orgy. The fact that an avatar was laying there like a buffet while guys and gals flew around smoking joints and drinking totally blew my mind. Everything seemed "free"..and unhibited. I went to a mall in a snow sim and met a guy who showed me that the new BJ animation i had bought was NOT to be worn on my head but actually dragged from my inventory . I was hooked..and I think what hooked me wasn't the sex..or the creativity that was all around me...but the "acceptance" that I felt and saw in others. I never really saw griefing..i never really saw character judgements placed on people because "hey..its Second Life". "Be what you can't be in 1st life." "Live out your fantasies" Only til about a year later was i exsposed to "people who used others"..people who were passing judgements because of a tag or what was worn or attached. Then the game changed..it became a lot colder and alot more lonesome in SL. And since then with all the stores and Magz and groups and oppurtunities for people to personalize their second life and attune it more to their RL. The issue of acceptance and non acceptance has come to the forefront of alot of Forum debates.((I guess thats the natural progression of things in any society..even Utopian ones.)) ~Lana Tomba

sounds good - As a result of my one sister-in-law being unable to cook, And the other simply being too lazy, I am generally the one that makes thanksgiving for the portion of the family that is still talking to each other. I do pretty good I think. Least no one ends up sick... Which cant always be said for our family gatherings. LOL

Even though we are both straight, we should get married to each other. That would definitely bring them together and give them something to talk about.
