It's all well and good to be able to AR the overpriced 16sqm plots with ads, but what about all the ones with ads that are not for sale? I want to AR those as well.

Nope, you can't. LL has specifically stated that having ads are not illegal. Only if they are for the purpose of extortion.

I'd like to see all ad farms go away too, but I don't know the way to do that without regulating taste, which I don't ever want to see happen.

Read the land descriptions of the parcels and the owner's profile. I saw one tonight that's not for sale but the parcel description clearly states the owner will sell for the right price. I will quote it:
"If you want this plot please IM me. However, don't offer me silly low prices because I paid a lot of money for this plot. Reasonable offers will be considered."

If they were smart they wouldn't have that.

They would just write a nice friendly style profile that makes them seem approachable.

So they can slyly bump up the price when not under a microscope.

Like someone warned about - on voice for example.

The think that the Lindens don't have time to IM to see how much it is selling for.

Yeah, we're going to see a lot of slimeballs try to work their way around this. I don't think they'll find many are willing to only speak to them in voice and then fall for being extorted that way. It will only take a couple of AR's for that type of crap for LL to start watching those creeps. I am firmly convinced that LL is done messing this this.

As soon as I read the blog last night, I went to check on the adplots in the middle of some land I own. Two 16s formerly owned by Mr. Potatohead had been abandoned to or reclaimed by Gov Linden. On 2 separate occasions I offered to buy those for $1000 each instead of the $9995 that they were offered at. Today I will be buying them for $16 each from the Gov. It is definately a good day.

Congratulations! He must have dumped an awful lot of land, because I've seen some too. I think he dumped, rather than lost them, because I noticed that he still has at least one lot, with ads - no longer for sale. Besides, he seems like the sort who would do that, just to screw a lot of people over (I don't surround his former lots that were near mine, so I can't get them from the Gov.). At least you got to benefit from it!

Yeah, we're going to see a lot of slimeballs try to work their way around this.

One of the tactics I've seen used on ad plots in my area is to only set them for sale for an hour or two, then take it off sale and put one in a different area up for sale... always having a few that are for sale, but rotating them so as not to get caught. I'm guessing they think that if it gets AR'ed, and it's not for sale when a Linden finally TP's to the plot that it doesn't violate the rule.
There's only about 8 of them in the far end of my sim, but I'm relentless and I need more prims ;)

I'd just be sure to describe that tactic thoroughly in detail when you submit the AR report.

Wait.. If I do catch one for sale and I start to AR it, can't I set "show HUD" for screenshots, and that would let the screenshot show the land for sale dialogue?

I just tested it for you. It showed my HUD, of course, but it didn't show the land dialogue box.

EDIT; Show Interface will work though. So that's what you would do.

My goodness, Senga. Read his profile. It's art. Are you some kind of heathen?

Oops, sorry. I missed the memo.

It must have arrived during the human sacrifice.

Seriously, he still has plenty of lots listed at L$5 million or more, with large rotating builds on them. So in spite of the profile entry, his land tells the true story.

It's the truth of the land vs the lie of the profile.

Mr. Potatohead still has a plot for sale in my home sim at a very high price (more than 600 per sq m) but no ads on it, so I can't AR it... (sigh)

The high price with nothing there is the expected outcome. I hope LL has a plan to deal with that. I've got one I can't AR inside my land that is currently running 938L / m2.

As long as it has no extortion prims on it, who really cares how much they are asking for it. At that point, it's just a piece of land that isn't hurting anyones eyes.

High priced plots with nothing on them are just people with a case of wishful thinking hoping someone who desparately needs the prims or space will bite. If there was such a parcel on my sim, I would IM with a fair offer and then forget it exists if the answer was no. I would also ask them to IM me should they change their mind. That's about all you can do.

I feel for you. :-/ He abandoned the one next to me, so I am trying to get it now, but I have plenty more including several from the Frog, the Android comic, and a few from the "Need more prims? We have what you need!" people.

It's just a matter of time, though. Give them all the Ad Zoo treatment, and they will eventually go away. :)

I will IM them anyway and offer them "silly low prices" aka "fair market value". Too bad they paid a lot for it. They ripped themselves off. I have no sympathy. Given the glut of ad farm plots being dumped right now, IF there was an "ad plot market price" which was legitimate, it certainly would be in the crapper right now. :)

I look forward to that gurgling choking sound as they try to swallow their next monthly tier payment or two. :D

Oh god, please don't pay that kind of money for 16s. Offer to pay fair market value for land (presently at around L$8.5/sqm) or maybe up to L$10/sqm. Paying more is just throwing good money after bad, and can still encourage them to find ways to continue the extortion.

The only way you ultimately win vs the extortionists is _just__not__pay__them_, period.

That's mostly what I did, but I also put them into the Ad Zoo anyway. :) Gotta educate folks about them. :D

Unless it is in the middle of your plot, where you HAVE to leave an unsightly hole because you cannot cover it up.

The ad plots near my land are still there and as ugly as ever, just not for sale anymore. I wish we could AR the ugly.

Seriously, you do *not* want to open up that can of worms, or you'd have 90% of what's in SL being AR'd

I'd prefer to be able to AR the stupid :D

I only counted about 3 people against this move, and one of those was coming out with the old "freedom of speech" rubbish that we can ignore.

!?!? Since when did freedom of speech become rubbish?
