Bye bye adfarmers?

It's just unfortunate that some are only here for their own benefit at the expense of others, so they'll always be looking at some new way to screw over people.

But, you're right, we'll catch up eventually and deal with them again through people power.

It is a sad reflection of human nature that we have such individuals, but it's reality and we're not going to change that. All we can do is try to minimize the effect that they have on our (second) lives.

I cant wait to be able to get on and see what the area aound my store now looks like... I am hoping for good things.

If not, you know where the AR button is No reason not to give Linden Lab a hand in these things...

I hope LL stocked their fridges with beer and sandwiches for the days of labour ahead of those handling ARs. There's going to be plenty.

You have to expect the Adfarmers knew some sort of enforcement was coming sooner or later.

Out of all this mess there is only one 16 sqm plot, for sale for L$7999, that seemed like a clear candidate for an AR. All the rest is either not for sale or not all that outrageously priced. Oh well. It isn't visible from my shop at the top of the gray stone wall.

I agree.. it was "too easy" for them, they must of known the good times would not last forever. I expect though that quite a few are rather annoyed today!

If Linden Lab would set me up with a cubicle with a fridge full of beer and sandwiches and gave me the green light to deal with AR's for ad farms, I'd have a f'in party the likes of which the grid has never seen. I can't think of a better way to spend the weekend. Actually, substitute Rockstar or Red Bull for the beer. I'm not going to be sleeping any time soon. I'd go on a rampage. I get all misty just thinking about it.

I think this is a great step in the right direction. I can't wait to see how it's implemented. LL has an opportunity to create a lot of good will here that it hasn't had in the past, so I hope they take it.

I'd agree with an earlier poster who urged people to be patient. LL is going to be swamped for a while. There are a LOT of adfarms, and I doubt LL has the staff to handle all the AR's they are going to get on a timely basis.

I guess, if I were evil, petty, and allegedly sociopathic, what I would do as an adfarmer is put up the most horrendous ads I could, but not put the land up for sale. Then I'd put out very careful feelers to the neighbors, soliciting offers for the land, without naming a price. I would then turn down any offers that weren't exorbitant, or try to get them to keep making offers until they hit my price. That way I could claim that the land wasn't for sale, and therefore the new policy didn't apply, and I could claim that it was the neighbors who made the offer of the outrageous price, not me. Once they hit my price point, I sell the land and it's too late for LL to do anything.

I just checked the ad plots in Dunnylun beside and near where my group converted some plots to a free canoe-rezzing dock.


The counter-moves by the extortionists is in evidence.

Primlands have a 16 on sale at L$1494.
No prims on it BUT: They have just turned on ban lines.
Empty 16m parcel
No build, no object entry.
WHY do they need ban lines?
Easy! To visually grief near neighbours. To inconvenience neighbours flying around their parcels.
It's plainly just as much extortion as would be rotatin prims.


A nearby Hax-dominated farm has Hax's signature prims now a mottled green texture.


One of the plots not owned by Hax has a stack of 3 ad prims floating on high.

They will be when they reveal the price!

Doesn't the whole fact that they realize you would want to get rid of the ads, and an offer to "work with you" -

Not imply that they KNOW they are extortionists?

sounds like people are reporting out-rageous priced parcels regardless of their content ?, im pretty sure you cant expect LLabs to do anything about the price of parcel ?

I bet they are going to report "outrageous" Content regardless of the price as well.

It still doesn't fully address the cutters and "land for extra prims" extortionists. The ones that still will buy up or cut out small plots next to active places and set them for ridiculous prices in a vain attempt to get you to buy them out when you expand, rather than having a hole in your build (what they think).

Of course, it IS their land; they can either not sell it or sell it for whatever price they want. I can also surround it, and lampoon the hell out of them, as can everyone else. At least now, when they decide to get froggy and try to FORCE the issue via putting up some annoying content on their plots, we have an avenue to gank them on it.

The clear proposition is:
"Wanna get rid of these ads?"
It is not ' Wanna buy this excellent building plot' Flat green, lovely view, low-lag, class 5, yadda-yadda

They assume that the reason for buying is for a neighbour to "get rid of" the blight.
It's very definitely NOT an offer "to work with you".

If you think it is, then all Hax has ever done is to offer to "work with" the nearby landowners.



I think that all the postings going on about "the rules" and the wording are wrong-headed.


There is not court system in SL.
There are no teams of lawyers who are allowed to subvert justice by picking over the particular imperfections in the wording of laws.

All it takes is for the Lindens to have the balls to call a spade a spade.
They don't have to provide a form of words that provides a precise definition of what extortion is. They should not even try to. If the thing is presented as precisely defined, then every barrack-room lawyer will be able to come up with a scheme that skates just by the letter of the definition.
They have to recognise it when they see it, just the same as we do.

The parcels still have the small 4m diameter disk that says "Land For Sale" maybe that is artwork too.

Fishii has a lot of adfarms for those interested, look along the road in the Northeast corner.

I guess that since we have no real rights, LL may as well start acting like it.

In my case that 24K for 112 sqm has a huge great big adboard far too high to be blocked out by anything but a huge tree. 214 L$ per sqm is EXTORTION.

That one sounds pretty a clear cut case of breaking the new rule.

I think this is a good first step.. but I think they need to go ahead with the visibly mute.

My concern is that with the flood of ARs off of this, they are going to be lax in dealing with the sim crashers and such. I mean, are they hiring more in world governance team Lindens?

I just had a pleasant Lunch hour running around the San sim writing AR's on all the ad farmers with outrageous prices for their 16m plots, noticed even before I was through one guy came around and took all his ad lots off sale. I even had black smiley face signs still there I could AR…

At this rate I am going to be up very late tonight.

Will it matter at all when he turns them green as they will still be the same size and rotating?
