Candy wrappers...I just laid in my Halloween night's supply of candy. As some of you know, I live in an area I call "Kid Central", and every year it seems there are more and more children who come to our neighborhood to trick or treat. And since Halloween's on a Saturday this year...look out!! (oooh, and in the U.S., Daylight Saving Time comes to an end that night, too - an extra hour to...whatever!! )

So..... who wants stew for dinner? I pulled a couple of bags of stew meat out of the freezer yesterday to thaw. They were vacuumed packed really well and there ended up being much more meat that I thought there was -- so of course that mean more vegetables in the pot.

I have about 12 quarts of stew now.

Actually, that IS what I had for dinner, but it was a stew with great northern beans and sausage... I love when the weather cools enough to eat hot food again.

I just snuck into the kitchen and added a little bourbon to ours.

I have had a rough week. I can't begin to explain.

Among other things, an old friend of mine lost her mother on Thursday. My friend and I have not been in touch for a long time. I finally connected with her sister about a year ago. I got an email today about their Mom's death. So tragic

The back story is that mom had a heart attack while driving. My former roommate was in the back seat. When mom's foot continued to accelerate the car, she unbuckled her seat belt and leaned over the front seat to steer the car away from a bus and a van only to hit the guard rail. She has undergone extensive surgeries since that time.

I will go see her soon when she is in a post hospital rehab center. What a way to get back in touch with an old friend.

I hope everyone had a super weekend!

before I go on at length about Burny Life, HardKnock Elementary had its homecoming dance and... guess who won Queen? Yup, its me with my friend who is a boy (but not my boyfriend) Johnny as the homecoming queen and king! Yay!



Burning Life opened this weekend, as I think everyone knows. This meant my camp was open finally! Yay! So here's a few stories form the weekend. It's gonna be a long one!

I have a weird tradition of sorts, where I "enter" the camp from the beginning, and will "leave" at the end. Sure, I can TP, but it just feels "more natural." So my whole build team did this this year. So here's Valla Griffin, Johnathon Spad, Robin Howe, me, an Pygar Bu shortly after crossing over to "the other side."



We had the Milk N Kookies podcast team there at my camp just as the event opened. within moments of access being turned on, we had filled the sim. We also had attracted a wannabe PN griefer. I sy wannabe, cuz he was so very bad at it. For one, his lolcubes weren't working right thanks to scripts being off, which meant his pretty particles never materialized. Also, 'cuz he stuck around after rezzing them. It took me less than a minute to have two BL rangers, a BL staffer, and a Linden standing in front of this guy. Bye-bye griefer account! Meanwhile, my crowd did't even bat an eye. We've seen it all before.

I mentioned the crowd. Yes, the sims were laggy this weekend. To the credit of the staff and builders of Burning Life this year, a lot went into trying to keep lag down. they had classes for all of us to teach us about different ways to keep lag as minimal as we could. I watched staff members spend hours diagnosing even minimal lag makers. On Friday, my sim was running at 45fps with 0.99 time dilation. Now as soon as people got there en masse, the lag got horrible. Please bear in midn when visiting that there are ways to keep lag down an make it a better experience for all. Meanwhile, plan your in-depth visit for the upcoming week. it'll be less crowded.

There are many sites you simply have to see at Burning Life. For one, you have to see this year's Temple. It is quite beautiful. I took this shot of it but, honestly, it does not do the building justice.



Also, Ub Yifu's Gullliver is great. Bry Oh's piece is gorgeous and cool. So so many others are just stunning. Also, the old traditions are there, with th Department of Mutant Vehicles providing all sorts of art cars, and the lamplighters having their regular nightly processions starting around 7ish and ending in a big fire dance and drum circle all SL night long. Yes, another piccie time: me firedancing!

One other thing about Burning Life: events are often random, unplanned, and not at all the usual. For example, AFK decorating a Linden. Dusty, in this case:



An Asian ghost story told in music, dance, and spoken word at Inner Child Camp:



A line-up for the use of a porta-potty, which becomes an art project of sorts in a world where no avatar really needs to attend to such needs. It was also hil-arious. Especially for all of us who have had to wait in those lines IRL:



And then this. Not at all a planned event. Indeed, an accident. M2Danger Ranger was coming down the road in The Beast when me an Pygar emerged from the tunnel under Tokyo Stage on our camp's surrey bicycle. We both tried to avoid, but it was a four-way sim crossing. We screamed and collided. We all survived intact, and without a scratch to our vehicles.
