Ah, perhaps. But I am no "lady," Pep.

(Although such classicist assumptions no doubt abound at the sort of dinner parties that YOU attend!)
Perhaps in the boondocks you don't understand: it is not the females' prerogative to decide whether they are ladies, but the men's assessment.

Pep (It must be those pinko liberal men you hang around with; we don't have quiche at our dinner parties either.)

Found out: September 24, 2009. I'm assuming the Dublin sim will be doing stuff. :)

Looking at the line up, no wonder I pay no mind. Bob Geldof irritates the crap out of me.

I sincerely doubt any Dub is waiting till 6 PM local time to hoist a pint either ;)

We were at an Irish bar recently and saw that on the drink menu. Freaks me out too. This girl likes her Guinness straight up :)

That's dinner. Shandies and Black currants pints are dessert.

Perhaps in the atrophied circles in which you move, you don't understand: NO one determines MY identity or status for me.

Were it my desire to be a "lady," as you put it, I could, and would be. That I consciously reject that kind of label is made VERY clear in the way in which I dress, speak, and comport myself. I don't give people the "option" of who I am: I express it.

(PS. Ever seen the House of Lords scene in "The Ruling Class"? It's rather how I am coming to imagine your dinner parties . . . ;)

I was just about to post a thread about being "ready for eternity" but I couldn't get it to go. Besides, it's not really thread-worthy, it's more like a PSA.

The thing is, when LL freezes these forums, we won't be able to change our avatar pictures, our signatures, our Custom User Titles (the words under our names), or our profile pictures.

But I can't post it - that's all I've got.

You so have it wrong. Semantic labels belong to observers, not the observed.

Pep (Whatever you say; and your desire to "be" one, or pretend to be one even, has minimal impact on the assessor.)

Not the guy who hangs himself at the beginning of the movie? Between parties, I mean.

Identity is not just about the "gaze": it is produced through communication. And communication, by definition, requires two active parties. When I express my self-determined identity through clothing, language, and deportment, I am narrowing the range of meanings that can be imposed upon me, just as any language user restricts the semantic possibilities through her or his choice of words and syntax.

You can certainly "misread" me, or even fantasize about what I mean. But that doesn't make me what you imagine.

Sorry, I deny that you have any existence except in my perception . . .

Pep ( . . . and therefore you can have no self-concept of identity other than that which I impose upon you.)

Samuel Johnson "disproved" Bishop Berkeley's "immaterialism" by kicking a rock.

Sometimes, Pep, I wish I could repeat that experiment on you . . .

Unfortunately, you would have to instance yourself physically to have any chance at all of replicating Johnson's "proof".

Pep ( . . . and therefore you can not disprove my contention. )

PS Ah! To prove that she didn't have that power, of course.

I can't HEAR you . . .

(Because you have NO objective existence. Think of all the people who have you on "ignore," for whom you quite ... simply ... don't exist!)

Bye, Brenda.

Pep (I don't blame you.)

I do blame myself. For letting you finally get to me. I don't know why you've ramped up and gone on this scorched earth campaign, lashing out at everyone, causing some who can't resist you to continue to put fuel into the fire, and frankly I don't care. Sracsm, snarkiness and all that has always been something I enjoyed, and you've always pushed it to the edge. But now you just seem to be bitter and mean. As a member of this community, you have every right to say what you want, just as everyone else does and I have the right to not want to be a part of it anymore. Instead of ignoring you, and several others here, I will just remove myself from these proceedings. This bickering just makes everyone involved seem petty and small, and it hurts to watch.
