Hello everyone, thanks for your kind words. Good news. The weather last night and today has been really good for the firefighters and they have upped the containment to 30%. The fire is currently in the back country and they are evaluating the possibility of allowing some people back into their homes today. The firefighters, police, sheriffs and all other personnel (over 4000 in all) have done an amazing job. They actually knocked on every door to make sure people were out and they protected the thousands of homes from looting.

I think I can unpack my bags now... but have had an important experience in evaluating what is truly important.

I wish I had been able to volunteer to help somewhere, but seeing as I'm just getting over the flu (piggy flu or not), I didn't think it would be such a good idea. "So sorry you lost your home, here, have the flu as a consolation prize."

This is good news. May the whole crisis be over for every one soon.

Some friends of mine lost everything in a huge fire in San Diego County a few years ago.
Here's how big it was: I woke up about 2:00 or 3:00 am and I thought it was dawn because I could see a bright glow behind the mountains. Then I realized it must be a fire because I noticed it was too early for dawn. "OMG!" I thought. As I watched, the flames got to the top of the mountains and they were actually taller than the mountains were high. Then I watched the fire make it's way down the west face of the mountains. Wow.

When it was daylight, we had ash and smoke drifting all the way to our house near the ocean.

Anyway my friends got out alive and had good insurance thank goodness; they had to live in a trailer on their property for a couple of years but now they have a fabulous new house, much nicer than the old one. But of course all their photos, etc - gone forever.

You stay safe.

Is that what that is? I can't recognize most of the stuff on that plate and I was afraid to ask...

*hugs*

I'm glad you've had a bit of a reprieve, Malia...

Thank you to firefighters one and all...

At least the firefighters are heroic enough to fight this deadly fire!
Stay strong, Malia.

:D We even had escargot one morning- husband found some recipe i just had to try! Lunch did find us today at sushi bar. My son is getting the hang of chopsticks still, makes me smile at his efforts - he use to get upset that he had to eat it with a fork 'cause when he was younger he couldn't get the idea of how to move them- but he is doing much better!

Don't worry Malia, if you come over for breakfast we can do pancakes too :)

How does that work, when we have less than 70,000 posts in the thread?

Do it. It's just a good movie, even if you aren't into the whole thing. Actually those who aren't fans will probably enjoy it even more.

It's true, folks. She even allowed me to dance on her rezday cake once as I recall -- though I don't think anyone ate any after that.

As long as you promise not to sneak anything into them that doesn't belong in a pancake, it's a date. ;)
