Here in San Diego, we have a restaurant/bar that specializes/features New Zealand style food. Last summer I had friends visiting from New Zealand. They couldn't wait to get to that place. Was so funny.....seems you'd want to try something different, some of the sunny, southern Cali 'flava'? They looked at me with blank faces, totally not understanding what in the heck I was talking about and said 'Why, when we can get New Zealand fare'? lol I enjoyed what I had at that place, was a good meal.
I am usually very eager to try local fare where ever I travel. I love the food we have at home but one of the great things about travelling is that you get to experience something else in all areas including food. Your story about your friends is amusing though, I guess some people are just not very adventurous with food regardless of where they come from or how far they travel :) VV

Generally it is done as a performance for guests.
Of course if we were talking about it being done at a rugby match then it would be done as a warning to unnerve the other side and so as Pep is Welsh...

I have to admit though, the mental image of Pep doing the Haka does conjure up some amusement :D VV

I don't see sticking your tongue out and baring your backside as much of a performance, and if I find it unnerving it is from embarrassment. In fact, I find it amusing that the last time the New Zealanders "performed" a Haka in Cardiff some of the Maoris got upset because the Welsh made it blatantly obvious they weren't initimidated.

Pep (Why would *I* want to do a Haka? The Welsh demonstrate their culture with poetic words not rude gestures.)

PS Thanks for your welcome earlier.

As culturally sensitive as always I see Pep. :p

Some do take it all far too seriously though I agree.
Yes when there were only Polynesians in the Pacific it probably was a truly frightening sight to the different iwi (tribes) but not so really in modern times.

Funny I thought the Welsh idea of culture was to store the coal in sacks instead of the bath? :p

To my Pep(pers): You have me on ignore? If you want, I could meet you at the Luxor on your way through the US. Maybe would really spice up your trip :)
Thanks for quoting this Ashe - I *do* have this moron on ignore, but thought I would point out to Pip and any other ignoramuses, that the original Karnak temple is not to be found in Nevada, nor is it a black pyramid.

Coal? Which century are you living in?

It's Rorke's Drift and there weren't actually any Welshmen there. The regiment involved was the 2nd Warwickshire, who only changed their name to the South Wales Borderers two years afterwards.

Pep (Two of the eleven VCs were awarded to Jones boys, but they were both English)

Funny because going back 30 years is about what I was told when last going to Wales also.

So Mom's first chemo went well. Wasn't nearly as scary as we were both psyching ourselves out for. The treatment room is really big, like a large living room, maybe, and has huge windows that look out over some lovely greenery n stuff; the other walls have soothing Japanese paintings. There are about 30 huge leather reclining chairs; the patients (and families if room's available) just pick a chair, get hooked up to an IV by the nurses, and hang out for a few hours. The nurses are all cheerful and joking and friendly; they really made the environment nice. The room has snacks like granola bars, crackers, sodas, tea, coffee, etc available, and there's a cafe across the parking lot, and we can bring food in as well. I think I did about 259 sudokus and read most of a book; the whole thing was uneventful. Mom did really well; she napped and read, and now she's home watching TV. They dosed her up on some strong anti-nausea meds (like Zofran) so no barfing or anything.

Five more to go, yay!

*hugs* to all; I'll catch you later.

I'm so glad today's chemo session went as well as it did...AND that you were able to be there for your mom. :)

Both you and your mom are in my thoughts/prayers, Oryx.

Saw Star Trek tonight. Not sure I should say anything. I might end up having a minority opinion. But even so, I'll say it. I haven't thought deeply about the movie, and might change my mind later, but my gut instinct is that, quite frankly, that was the best Star Trek movie I've seen.

When I rezzed at home today I was being showered with multicolored particles. So I went outside and found this. :(

The owner of the parcel is trying to re-texture the outside. :(
