same shit. different president. same simple-minded, make-themselves-look-better 'entertainers'. different president. whatever.

They are all the same and nothing will change until we figure out how to throw them all out and overhaul then entire system.

Much of the glitz is privately financed, and much of it goes into local companies' pockets, so as a Marylander, I am happy for the spending. Several of the big beneficiaries are local companies paid by the political parties and private groups, not the Feds. I think the real cost to the Fed is the lost time off plus certain normally scheduled events.
The performances, food, decorations, etc.. are privately financed. The security ends up costing the city and the federal government quite a bit. Yes, it will bring lots of visitor dollars into the city (which do result in various tax dollars going to the city), but if it is anything like the DNC here in Denver, it will still cost the government money that it does not really have to spend. Denver took a hard hit from the DNC even though a lot of companies did well from it. Due to that, I will not get a raise in 2009, will get to attend no training classes, and may have to take up to 2 weeks of unpaid time.

When these types of things are truly 100% covered by the people hosting and attending, then I will stop bitching, but not until then.

Never mind Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman and their Long Way Round/Down. I just had the Long Way Home. TP was borked, so I took a 33-sim flight.

Congrats! I always find that fun to do. Getting from my Bay City store from home is a long, long flight (northwest corner to southeast corner of Sansara) but I've done it before.

Sure, TPing would be easier, but sometimes the cross-sim travel can be interesting. :-)

Agreed, it can be fun, but I kept fairly high (above 1000m) to avoid sundry security orbs and banlines. Even then, I bumped into one security warning at that height.

I don't get it. They don't need the bridges closed. You know how many roads from Maryland into Washington, DC are closed for all this? Zero.

The secret service is power mad.
Someone on tv said it was just in case there is an incident that makes it necessary to evacuate a lot of people...

Although I'd like to see the Washington Galas toned down, I'd rather see my money at least going to some of the businesses that will be servicing them, than thrown away on failed corporations, and incompetent CEO's who probably couldn't graduate from McDonald's Hamburger University.
When someone you like is being inaugurated it is bringing much needed money into the local - and beyond - economy and uniting us all in a spirit of well deserved celebration. When it's the other side it's a bunch of rich power brokers draining public resources in ostentatious displays of self indulgence. Not everyone in my town agrees with the football fans who think that a new billion dollar stadium would be cost effective in the long run. But I think we almost all agree that those incompetent CEO greedheads should not be trusted with anymore anything.

Just dropped by to do my duty and post something here.

I was at a dance last night wearing my Cornwall flag top. The person dancing next to me was Cornish, according to their profile, but they didn't comment on my top!

Another pleasant borked evening everyone!

So glad I pushed myself to take those pix I had to for SL Things to Do this morning. It's the first time the woman who runs the blog asked me to help her out by doing some photos for it. First two days were a bust for personal reasons and then yesterday, things were borked too. I was getting concerned my first gig for her was going to be my last. Thankfully managed to take a bunch of them and email them off before things went kaput here, again.
