From: Cael Merryman Oh, come on. Join any newsgroup that features anything - anything - related to politics to see what the end of mankind will look like, just before some alien drifts through and shoots the surviving raving maniacs.
Any unmoderated newsgroup related to sports also will trend occasionally to vitriol when long held beliefs, semi-religious and otherwise, collide. For instance, join any bicycle road racing forum and state that Lance Armstrong is the greatest cyclist/has the greatest palmares for winning all those Tours and step back and wait for the Eddy Merckx fans to come at you, complete and replete with torches.
The forums here are absolutely benign compared to the last 20 years of newsgroups. I was first flamed in Pine... (anyone under 40, don't ask) I've been involved in many forums over the years - I was just asking *if* you came across that one particular post you saw, from an interest level (and because I am in the mental health field by trade) I would be interested in reading it. That's all.

From: Teejay Dojoji Now why's someone with an irish name like that talking about agita? LOL I love that word, but every time I use it, people are like--huh? I have been known to associate with Italians.

From: Conan Godwin You don't see me letting a little thing like being wildly unpopular put a dampener on my day now, do you?

Hiya Rha...if you're reading this. I didn't know you all that well, but you seemed OK to me. I appreciated your opinions and support during the whole kids/SL5B thing. I'll remember that.
Anyway, if this is what you think needs to be done - well, you know what's best for yourself I guess. I'm glad that you're not leaving SL totally. I just hope that things aren't to the point where you'll be crossing the street if you're in-world and happen to see one of us forum types walking nearby.
Stay cool.

From: Tristin Mikazuki .. WAY more fun giving'em hell and messing with thier tiny minds heh and MASSIVE egos LOL. Don't I know it. She's also stated on other occasions she doesn't feel like she's part of the crowd here. But this is where it gets confusing to me. Why would she want to be?

From: Macphisto Angelus I think he means "Clique" which is cute in light of his tiny minds comment. ...in which case, the word he probably meant to use was "cliquish". But I guess he doesn't know that word. *shrugs*

I've always valued your opinions and you seem to be one I could count on to actually help.
The feeling you have here, I also have inworld, and often thought about just calling it quits. The sniping female avatars and the cliques on SL reminds me of highschool. Even in HS I was never part of the "in crowd" I marched to my own tune and those of like minded people. Early in life I learned to take what others say with a grain of salt. So I go about my business making friends with people who are of like minds and continue to enjoy SL how I want to.
I saw yesterday inworld where someone put in the profile, "The one with the most friends wins." So, tell me is having a bunch of people you offer friendships to at random best or a select few who value you for who you are good or bad? I choose the latter.

Actually, that was the LL ideal as well. They had that idiotic rating system, where you could rate someone positively or negatively, and I think you even were given Lindens for a while for good ratings as well. Talk about fostering cliques.
