Do Our First Names Have Significance?

Mine's just a variation on my RL first name.

We all get the abbreviations, Lindal.
Creases me up when I get initially spoken to - 'Hi Hi'

Incidentally, how do I stop myself appearing as Registered User? Makes me feel like a junkie!!

Isabeau is quite simple and basic - or so I thought. During music events, when the performer says "Thanx for the tip, such and such", they often pronounce it 'IsaBUW', as if I smell bad or something... At first, I wasn't even sure they were talking to me.

Go to your user Control Panel, under edit profile, you can give yourself any title you want.

On the upper left of your screen there is a button that says "User CP." Click it and go to edit profile. There is a place you can change it there.

As for my name, I'm an alt and the person who created my account thinks Kara Thrace from BSG is hot.

Galena - a silver, crystalline ore of lead sulfide. I pictured an avatar with metallic silver hair, so they go together. It also is pronounceable, unlike my RL partner who named himself after a galaxy (35382Heron or something, man was I ticked off....)

It was an opportunistic reaction to an existing surname.

My full real first name is Brad but friends always end up calling me Bradley so that's what I went with when I signed up. I tried to make up something more exciting but I'm just not awake this morning.

Mine is from Lord of the Rings (my favourite historical work lol) - one of Gandalf's names from other lands. I usually go by Inc, as it saves everyone around me typing "anus" over and over again......

The best named av I've met so far was while looking for a yacht to buy; I stopped by a sailing club, to be met by a rolling ball of lava with the name of Pyroclastic Flow

I think I was just after something simple, as I wasn't expecting to stay in SL that long. I thought the 'i' spelling would more likely be free than the 'y' version. That it's easy to spell, say & remember doesn't hurt either, and I've grown to quite like it. May is my grandmother's first name, and it just caught my eye.

I love the nmes which are puns. I think they re just brill, but then i like the ones that sound like rel names too.

Mine was fairly easy, my RL name is Claire, I figured it would mean that i would answer people when they were talking to me lol. I know it sounds wierd but my second name sounded a bit magical and i love silver lol.
I did consider trying to be called Riley Jenkins (characters from one of my fave series of books) but Jenkins wasn't available.

Before I can answer this question, I must preface the answer with a little history. It was the end of an era and the age of disco was in its death rattle. A lone woman was traipsing about her soul whilst riddled with existential conundrums stemming from a childhood of emotional deprivation and self-doubt. Wait, let me rewind a bit... Sometimes when people are growing up, they don't realize that they don't know who they are until a point in their life where they feel it's too late for them to develop a new identity. Their recourse is often to start searching for their identity in others, and this puts them at the mercy of sociopaths and emotional vampires. This woman found both in a stranger, but she saw the opportunity to start a new life with a new name as an escape from the failures and self-sabotage of her past and began a life with this man. Eventually, she realized that this predator was no good for her and that her new life was a sham. This brings us back to where we began. She was traipsing through the dark night of the soul, trying to unearth whatever facet of her identity was left buried beneath the strata of her years. Unfortunately, all that she discovered was the corpse of her childhood and the emptiness that had haunted her all her life... So she hatched a plot to once again find identity through another. She decided not just to find a man, another stranger, and steal his genetic material, but to create a new man herself. Her man. Her own little man. But she could not forsee the cruel emotional burden that this would place on an innocent, turning his little heart sour and his thoughts black. Faced with her neediness and lack of deserved guilt, he swallowed her guilt for her. However many layers of personality he created to hide inside, he still kept his purest moments of childhood locked away in the cockles of his heart. Locked inside those cockles as well was the childhood wish that his mother would take her guilt back and realize her mistake in having him, and that he would find peace if only she would say a few simple words to him: We've know each other for so long. Your heart's been aching but you're too shy to say it... Inside we both know whats been going on. We know the game and we're gonna play it. And if you ask me how I'm feeling, don't tell me you're too blind to see. Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down. Never gonna run around and desert you. Never gonna make you cry, never gonna say goodbye. Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you.

Mine is a twist on my RL middle name. Rather dull, but the other names I wanted werent available with anything but last names I knew I didnt want so, there we go!

I'm boring. RL first name=Alexandra. I thought about Alex (but no one ever calls me that) or Lex (which I was called by two friends years ago-one was called Alexei, the other Alexander, so we decided to "all be Lex" ) but settled on Alyx. I wanted a "y" somewhere, my RL nickname is Sandy. (Which is obviously where the last name came from)

Awwww.....this Jenkins here is a fictitious character of mine that might end up in an rpg one day...

My first name is a character in game I play years ago, called Obsidian, it had a character called Bismuth, which is also an element on the periodic table. It has stuck with me since.
