I have spent the evening working my way through the Lindens' showcase - and for a change thought I would put on my best tiny badger outfit **
I turned up at a place called - something like - B*g*rt's - and within seconds was ejected and banned - the message from the hostess being:
[13:32] xxxxx: Rules Sir, simply stated [13:32] xxxxx: Human form only sorry
My questions:
1. in a virtual world, what does "human form" mean? Should I have been 8 ft tall, in a tux, with a shiny shoe up my bum? 2. why would the lindens promote a club which itself appears to promote intolerance? 3. well, there must be a third question ***?
** In real life, I am not a badger, nor have I ever associated with them, obviously ... (coughs) *** Yes, I know, if the owner wants to be intolerant then that's their world, their imagination, their dollar ...
Surty ....
PS - no connection with them in any way, but I went to a gig at Nantucket last night, and not only did they welcome small furry beings, they even had chairs set up for them.
Edit: I mention in a later post that I found out I wasn't banned, just ejected.

For a so called Showcase place then thats not good as it should include those places that exemplify SL not those that are not tolerant of others. I would also suggest letting LL know and see if they care enough to do something about it and i will ensure it goes into my places not to visit, not that it will matter of course if i visit or not I wonder what would happen if en mass 40 badgers turned up lol

According to other threads, if people turned up in their beavers at any of the 10 most popular places, nobody except the Daily Mail journalist would bat an eye.

It is a shame when having standards and the desire to have a coherent atmosphere is declared intolerance.
The better question is why do you what to whine about someone exercising their freedom of association?

We did all this before: /327/21/246430/1.html#post1905337. I know: the same questions come up all the time. And I guess that one pre-dated the Showcase, so that's a new twist here.

I dunno - I guess it's the inconsistency and the absurdity/existential nonsense of the attitude that got to me? I can "walk" in, in my "human" form, wearing my tux, and be welcomed. Or I can turn up in something else and be ejected. TBH, I don't have a problem with it, other than it being one of the linden approved picks. Their loss - I'm a good tipper

That's right, "their loss" Let the market decide. No need for forced association.

So.....by turning up as a small furry pixel I am forcing them to associate with pixels that are furry rather than not furry. Ok, that makes sense. thanks, it's all clear to me now, much appreciated! Their loss - I'm a good tipper If you don't have a problem with it, all then why did you take the 5 or 10 minutes it took you to compose your initial post? It appears to me that you do, in fact, have at least a little problem. All you had to do was put on a "human" avatar and go back. Instead you decided to bitch about it............whine is a polite word for the same thing. The owner of the sim or parcel has a rule that he/she decided to enforce.......accept the rule or move on. Don't make a huge Constitutional rights violation out of it. Some people just love being the put upon........the poor downgraded, discrimated against. Why don't you create a place for furries/tinies only and then when I come in as a human you can eject me. That way I could come bitch about it on the forums like you. Oh, wait.........I wouldn't feel it so important to take that 5 minutes to even post such a silly thread.

From: Chris Norse Why shouldn't the Lindens approve a place that sets rules to attain a certain mood and then enforces the rules? Because it looks bad by association. Let's say I go to a place that the Lindens showcase and don't even get a chance for the place to rez before I'm booted and banned. My world, my imagination, my ass. Surty was ejected and BANNED within seconds of arriving, and not told why until after he was off the premises, I gather from what I've read. The Lindens need to seriously rethink their methods of selecting businesses to showcase, if this is acceptable method for a "Showcase" business to use on unsuspecting visitors. There should at least be a disclaimer in the Showcase section that states that some avatars are unwelcome at some showcased areas and will be booted on sight. Yeah, it's perfectly within a landowners rights to ban whoever they want - but it's wrong for the Lindens to recommend such places to ALL residents on the grid via the Showcase when clearly some residents are very unwelcome there.

Hi Peggy, thanks for your contribution. My original question, and the one that is relevant: 2. why would the lindens promote a club which itself appears to promote intolerance? That's all, best regards, Surty ...

IF the club did not have the standards would they be worthy of being promoted?
I would say no. Letting in any and every AV no matter what it is will destroy the atmosphere of the place turning it into just another club.
It has been a while since I have been there, but they also would eject people wearing bathing suits and stormtrooper outfits. Letting badgers run around will ruin the experience for those who choose to visit a place they know will look somewhat real.
We only have one side of the story here. We don't know what else was said. We don't know if he was even banned.
The hostess did nothing wrong in enforcing the rules and the Lindens have done nothing wrong in promoting the club.
All residents are welcome as long as they follow the rules set out by the club.

It is no more discriminatory than a store putting up a sign saying "No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service." If you want to go around believing Linden Lab support discrimination, then feel free, your world, your imagination. It's complete bollocks like and the last thing on their mind when they put it in the showcase was "They enforce standards", but if it makes you feel better then go for it. We both know it's bullshit mind you.

Absolutely, Chris, no problem with that at all - I have turned up in furry places as a human and been as welcome as a f8rt in a spacesuit. My point, from my OP: 2. why would the lindens promote a club which itself appears to promote intolerance? and: *** Yes, I know, if the owner wants to be intolerant then that's their world, their imagination, their dollar ... That is all The hostess was very nice about it, but once you get past whatever issues you have, you will realise it sucks - i'm pretty sure she thought it sucked too. best, Surty ...
