I happened to head to Barbarossa today, and discovered that while the map is not updated, the Blake Sea is indeed attached and accessible.
So I guess, in order to have a question... anyone planning on a sail? ![]() _____________________

Well that beautiful picture has me considering getting a boat.. I did see a free one in Barbarossa (same one I seen before in Moose Beach), but I really recommend the for-sale Flying Tako (what you see in the piccie, though mine is retextured) for cheap and effective sailing. I did see a few boats out on the waters while I was out, too. _____________________

Map has caught up with events noww
The new shiny slurl.com from King Phil was giving a clear image of the area before that. Some of the builds on the islands in the sea are extremey detailed. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Blake%20Sea%20-%20Mizzen/81/87/35 http://slurl.com/secondlife/Blake%20Sea%20-%20Windlass/140/125/30 |

I was out there on my Trudeau Knockabout sailboat last night *just* as the Blake Seas were coming online and getting connected to the United Sailing Sims. It was a bit rough at first as some of the regions were coming and going offline and the sim crossings were particularly brutal but eventually things settled in. I think the USS is having a big race to celebrate the opening today ... 10am slt I think but don't quote me on that.

I'd recommend either jacqueline's boats or a T35 or fizz.

Ya, it was a bit rough last night as well, though the crossings were far better than those along Route 66 on the weekend. The beautiful picture has me considering how I can afford a better computer. ![]() Windlight settings drop my FPS down into the single digits, though I use it for the occasional photographic opportunity from time to time. That was shot on Windlight ultra, with draw distance maxed, on a current edition iMac. I was actually able to sail pretty good at that level, but aside from a couple of the islands, it's largely open water. From the look of things, too, it'd also be pretty for scuba or mermaids: ![]() _____________________

Will they be filling in the gaps around the mainland too, so that you can actually sail around the continents, or is this largesse from Linden Labs just going to be granted to the Hollywood Insiders?

Yes, I was able to check the place out for only a couple minutes before somebody pulled me away. I'll be back, though. And take some pictures.
I did notice the sailboat racecourses and the big floating blimp/observation bleachers, though. Cool! _____________________

Whirlpool and Crashed seaplane
01-25-2009 08:38
Check out Sirens Isle and you will find a crashed seaplane and whirlpool. When the island came in site there was a seaplane trailing smoke and ditching as well.

I'm so excited about this, especially because they developed the sea bed. I'm going to have to suit up in my scuba gear and have a look today!

I love the spectator blimp.
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Blake%20Sea%20-%20Crows%20Nest/134/215/59 Somehow, somebody was 'flying' a 183-prim airship around it. The big race starts at 10am SLT apparently |

I tried to rez my Fizz, but couldn't. Do you have to join a group? No, you've just got to find a rez point: fly around until you find a water parcel that is build enabled. There's plenty of them around the Blake Sea, usually on sims that border it but aren't technically part of it. If you need one right away, look for a sim called "Balboa Point", almost the whole waterway in that sim is build-enabled. Once you rez your vessel, the Blake Sea is due west from there. _____________________

Will they be filling in the gaps around the mainland too, so that you can actually sail around the continents, or is this largesse from Linden Labs just going to be granted to the Hollywood Insiders? It appears that way. The Nautilus City and Bingo Straight builds fill in the gaps between Satori and Nautilus (continent), and this will connect in that area as well. They filled in the Nautilus and Corsica some time ago, as well as the gap in Jeogeot. I did also hear about someting filling the missing chunk in nautilus (continent) too. My real wish would be for all the continents to be linked up by waterways. I dream big. ![]() I tried to rez my Fizz, but couldn't. Do you have to join a group? I did find a rez area in Barbarossa. If things fit the usual scheme, look for rez areas near the buoys and possibly off the docks in some of the builds. Check out Sirens Isle and you will find a crashed seaplane and whirlpool. When the island came in site there was a seaplane trailing smoke and ditching as well. Sirens Isle was where I took that coral reef shot yesterday. I saw Michael Linden trying to pilot one of the seaplanes last night. He wasn't exactly doing a good job, and I believe crashed himself as well. I just came back to the forums to check things out a bit. How wonderful to be greeted by one of your beautiful pictures, Marianne! ![]() Thankoo! I try to post a few now an then. I tend to do a lotta 'em in the "Just Ignore" thread. (Shamless plug: I have a photo show goin on, inworld, in Shengri La. Feel free to check it out!) _____________________

It appears that way. The Nautilus City and Bingo Straight builds fill in the gaps between Satori and Nautilus (continent), and this will connect in that area as well. They filled in the Nautilus and Corsica some time ago There are similar problems all around the mainland. They really need at least half a dozen extra openspaces there to make it really navigable. _____________________

Technicaly, yes, but Slaash is private and someone's filled it with cheesy prim islands, so there's no way from the north of Nautilus to Corsica... you get to Tomasina and you're stuck. Then once you get to the openspaces between them there's an almost-private sim with a little 16 meter open water right at the north end, completely unmarked, and the non-linden part of the sim is usually banlined... but of course you can't see banlines or underwater sim and parcel boundaries from another sim, so you have to just know about that or you lose your boat again there. There are similar problems all around the mainland. They really need at least half a dozen extra openspaces there to make it really navigable. Well, that sucks about the area around Tomasina. An ya, the coast, such as it is, around Sansara is a mess. Most is unnavigable. My neck of the woods down in Islandia is a mess -- and would take more than half a dozen openspaces to fix. _____________________
