Hello everybody, I'm new here. So please be gentle.
I was just out exploring the mainland and crashing into ban lines everywhere. Well let me tell you, it wasn't much fun at all!.
So I got to thinking, rather than put up ban lines, why don't we just get one of those Greeter scripts and edit the welcoming message to something pleasant like:
"This resident would like some privacy. Please leave the area if not invited. Thank you ever so much! *hugs and kisses*".
I dunno about you lot. But I would find a message like that far more scarier than guard dogs, barbed wire and other scary stuff.
Soo.. good idea?

Soo.. good idea? No. Sorry, just had to give the typical 2k response. My alternate reply was going to be "the title of this thread sounds like what I heard at the end of pretty much every date I ever had." Oh, congrats on post 1000. Your contribution to RA cannot be underestimated.

From: Raymond Figtree "Please be gentle" also threw me off. Coupled with "No Entry" I can see why.

From: Janelle Darkstone Best idea I've heard all year. =) Welcome to RA (Resident Answers) Janelle. 2k, Something similar to what you are asking commonly found with security orbs. Although seldom worded as politely as that, they are generally prefered over ban lines. Many Estate communities prohibit ban lines and use security devices instead.

But the orbs tend to be more aggressive than a rabid rottweiller on crack first thing in the morning. and it seems a little overkill to have them active when the resident isn't even around. I only want to look in their panty drawer dammit!

a lil greeter message would be nice if it actually would work but most people that are barging onto you land dont care about messages, locked doors, or peoples privacy which is why people put ban lines up to begin with

Of course the irony is that after the "Do away with banlines" threads comes the "Do away with campers!" threads, the irony being that people who don't want anybody on their property are the SAME people who log 20 alts to a) cash in on camping cash or b) bring traffic to their laggy assed malls/clubs. They ARE the same people, I'm convinced of this.

Many visitors are just being friendly and wanting to chat. The message would be a nice and impersonal way of saying "Piss off". I know I don't like approaching people that aren't feeling sociable and I would be grateful for a subtle and impersonal message as I approach my victims. I just hate all the screaming!

If you don't insist on going where you don't know you're welcome, you'll never crash into a single banline for your entire SL life. Oh wait, that's Search / Places .

That would be like trying to tell a Zombie to stop biting too hard. ps - Your name looks familiar. Have we met somewhere before?

Soo.. good idea? As much I hate ban lines, I am convinced that most avatars can not read. I have seen many cases where a polite note is completely ignore. Then you ask "did you read the note?" The usual reply is no. Rox

I only want to look in their panty drawer dammit! This is what I like about the Omega Concern orbs, it goes into standby when the owner is not around. Come to think about it... they seem to be becoming my favorite arms supplier. Sorry for the off topic aside, but yes, there are orbs with that option, but you also have some that are territorial and just don't like others on their land at any time.

If some are content with a SecondLife lived in virtual gated communities, that's fine for them, but they'll have to supply their own gates.

On my beach home, which is semi-public anyway, it has a door message saying you are welcome here unless the door is locked. Seems pretty obvious to me.
