Avawyn, life will be simpler if you just take a deep breath, step back, and realize that you have a lot to learn. SL is not RL, and RL principles don't apply here in many respects. And people become a bit offended when in one breath you reveal that you really don't know much yet about how SL works, and in the next you are telling them how to run their businesses.

The idea for a magazine where you have an impartial panel rate sl items is a good one (although I think you would be better off to do it as a blog first while you continue to learn). But as I said before, you would need to have a team that understands the mechanics of SL. So maybe your energy would be better spent putting together that team and setting up that blog and actually doing it, than arguing moot points with people who really do know something about the mechanics of SL. And a good place for you to have your panel start would be with freebies, which many designers offer. If you are successful, and get people to read your blog and value your team's opinions and advice, you will find that designers WILL send you things to rate. AND if you are successful, and your team's opinions are valued, then you could think about doing a magazine.

Understand there are MANY MANY blogs out there, with people doing almost exactly what you want to do, and they are a great resource for consumers. Many of the people doing these blogs have been in SL for a long time.

And here is a piece of advice: go to the freebie warehouse, and pick up a bunch of stuff. Then go home or to a sandbox, and literally rip the stuff apart. Look at how it is made, and how it should go together. You will learn how to adjust things to fit, and a lot about the mechanics of SL attachments.

However, the attitudes of some of the designers in this thread were downright mean, snide, pompous, among other adjectives I can't think of at the moment over mostly terminology.
You can say that without choking on it, even after saying this in the locked 'BBC' thread? -

With a name like "candida" you expect people to take you seriously on topics regarding sexuality?
- which fits into several of your above-listed categories.

Avawyn.

LL does not have a "no refund" policy in SL, and their quality control dept. isn't missing. Neither is there either of those in RL. SL is a world and RL is a world, neither of which have the ability to implement a "no refund" policy or a quality control dept...
Oh Phil, RL has an iron-clad refund policy.

You are entitled at any time to quit RL and get a full refund of your purchase price.

Of course, taking the refund option is illegal in most countries, but unless you foul it up, that won't matter.

What I do not get, is that the BBC thread got closed, where at least 7 other topics (7!!) are completely and utter nonsense. The decade of RA in the last year or so has been terrible, and however I do like Cybin to close one derailed thread, I would cheer when this forum finally gets some moderation instead of a random closed thread.

And Skell, I am getting the impression that Avawyn does not choke on anything...

I think that thread was closed due to linden impersonation. Or perhaps if that was a linden, it was closed for using bad form.

But I do agree about active moderation instead of locking.

I went to Jojos place. And you not wrong about the warehouse model. You have a ton of stuff so ya I dont see how you can do it any other way given what make. I buy somethings. I like the blinds specially, the way they go up and down. kool =) I also check out your Picks. You onto it with those =) I also goto the sustainable place. Is really nice there. I had a ride on the tram and gondola. That was fun. I also meet another avatar there who say hi so that was good to.

I went to Rhas place as well. wow! you got even more stuff. Your shop is quite good build as well. Nice lines inside and out. You also got dressing rooms. Big ups from me for that =) (I wish more shopkeepers would do this rather than dump a posestand in the middle of the shop floor, specially in skin shops) Is somethings I saw I quite liked and I can see myself wearing them. I window shop a lot more than I did when I first came SL. Cant afford everything I want so I have to curb my enthusiasm to go clikclik clikclik. So I restrain myself and not buy any clothes anymore on my first visit otherwise I end up buying everything until I got no more money left in my lindens account. So now I take a deep breath and all that =) I go back again soon and have another look at them, and if I feel the same way then I wont have any reason to not clikclik them =)

thanks honey

yeah I tend to like the dressing rooms, sure we are only avatars, however some folks like privacy (did you click the mirror to see yourself) :)

I also try to make my place feel like a store (and be sure to check out the dollarbie section)

:)

(Not sure when you were at my place, however I tend to change my store quite often, and recently, last couple days) redid it again, adding a couple new stores outside (one for kids stuff and mini avatars, and the other for furnishings)

:)

I recently added a fitting room above my shop with a teleporter to get to it after a Shopwatch review of my new store in which the reviewer mentioned she would liked to have had one. I had no idea they were so desirable. I just tp home to try on anything myself, but I guess not everyone has a place to do this. Wish I knew if people are actually using it.

I wonder the same thing, if ppl are using it, however it fits with the design of the new store, so I will leave it and even if one person uses it, it makes it worth it :)

I had one in my old shop (because I had a space beneath a stairwell that wasn't any good for anything so I put up a curtain and a sign lol). I'm getting ready to do a tidy up on my store, maybe I will see if I can fit one in :)

AFTER the holidays. I'm not doing any work till Jan 2! lol

That's what I figured as well. I just wonder. :) When I moved recently I lucked into a parcel with tons more space and prims without tons more rent, so I've got plenty to spare. Having fun having lots of extra working prims and not having to clean up after myself so much in the skybox too!

If you have demos, a fitting room would be really helpful. You can decide right then if you want to buy the item, especially if it's skin.

The first time I saw a dressing room was in my first two months in SL. I worked at a club that had a vintage 40's shop across from it. When I got off work, I walked over to the store, went into one of the dressing rooms (there were 3 in the back of the store) and changed out of my work clothes into my dress to return to the club and dance. I thought that was so cool and expected to see dressing rooms at other clothing stores. (I didn't see another one until Rha's.)

One night I was working at the club and a vampire walked in. I greeted him and we began chatting. He said he was not suitably attired and asked if there were a place he could change. I walked him over to the store and pointed out the dressing rooms and he was very appreciative.

So apparently...perhaps under the category of "full immersion" ...people do enjoy the dressing rooms. I know I do. :)

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

the ones there are really cool, but look more like a hotel room than a changing/dressing room LOL

I like the simple design I did for the dressing room, nothing to clutter nothing to distract and the mirror will show you what you look like.. (which is handy for newbs who have yet to learn to cam around)

:)

I am glad someone likes them :)

I am rather pleased with the redo on the store, before I would find myself staying mainly up in the workshop in the sky, now I find myself wandering around my own store LOL

(oh ps, to those who have seen the dressing rooms, if you click the curtains they close)

might redo that to a different style though, but still will close

I'll have to check them out. Although, I'd probably never actually use one to try out skins what with camming through walls and such in SL. I know... they're just pixels, but they're my pixels!

The fitting room I set up recently is really just a little room separate from the shop in the sky with some pose stands. The only items I sell with demos are hair. Anyway, if anyone is in the neighborhood and wants to check it out and give suggestions, they'd be welcome. As I don't use fitting rooms in SL, I don't really know what people are looking for in them.

I don't use them either, but I would say: good lighting, enough room to move the camera entirely around the avatar without 'camera bounce', auto-return set for a couple of minutes to allow unpacking of boxes (if your items are boxed up) and at least the *illusion* of privacy, which counts for a lot, even if we all know that it *is* an illusion.

@Rha. I have a clik on your mirror. Is good ya. I quite like how that works =)

-

Is also good that more people have dressing rooms than I knew about and other people thinking about doing. Is all part of the service really. So more is good =)

And maybe people who do use dressing rooms, but not use your particular rooms, I think they do care that you thought about them. They will remember that you did consider their needs, and in turn they do take your consideration, into their consideration when they go shopping. Is just how that works I think.

Is a bit more to it than this as most people would understand it.

Has been my experience that people who use SL dressing rooms are not only considerate of their own privacy but also the sensibilities of others. They will no more embarrass other people by getting their avatar naked in a public place than they would themselves in RL.
