From: Briana Dawson So it sounds like the best possible way for LL to maximize their profits in this would be to let the Land Barons snap up Ursula to resell at stupidly high prices which would then drive people wanting adult land into purchasing estate sims to flag adult instead of paying $20-200L/m2 on Ursula... Which would have the eminently desirable effect of ridding the grid of a horde of land-flippers by driving them to a quick and painful bankruptcy. I'd buy tickets to watch it happen. From: Kasuga Hax If the mainland becomes clean of adult shops and adult content it will be nearly empty. Just look at the lands now. There's either a stripclub, or other kind of escort whoreybusiness, or a shyop that sells whoreybusiness items and cheap junk that wasn't made with a real sense of art. We leave with a few good sims that are good to look at, and easy to spot after everything is gone. And lots of empty lands are cheap lands. Lindens will probably give them away for free so somebody will at least make use of them in a good way.. Oh, the things I could do with a sim! there's only one little problem... tier... I can't afford it even if LL gave me a sim free of charge. From: Chris Norse I feel better knowing you were appointed as "Art Czar", deciding what is art and what isn't and what is a good use of land. God knows we can't let the free and open market decide. Thus spake the true philistine. I take it you'll be emigrating along with your market-force winners?

Although I voted for the 'I would value the mainland more' option it was a tough call as I don't feel it will have all that much impact on my personal SL experience. I've been in SL long enough now that I automatically blank out anything that doesn't interest and/or offends me. Shifting the XXX content to a new continent might improve things... a bit.... Reducing tier would have an altogether greater effect as the high tier rates pretty much dictate that the only large-scale projects on the mainland (and estates for that matter) are cash cows of one sort or another. Which at this point of time almost always means something in the XXX market :\
Reduced tier would open the doors to people who want to create / build for the sake of it alone without the crippling and frequently stressful issue of having to stump up large wads of cash.

Is that official or someones fantasy? I hope for second. Saw lots of nonsenses but this is one of the biggest. What PG?? Do you really think someone gets guided by it's parents? What is so scary in adult stuuf? If you have problem with adult topics, there's different professional for that, I wouldn't move whole mainland cos of that. Than, you can have privacy on your parcel. If your neighbour is bothering you or you are bothered by his penis wood you should really a) buy bigger parcel b) see the doctor c) get a life.
I dont get people who wants me to change things on my parcel cos they simply don't like it. If we are limited in RL and we are, we can say that loudly... why we have to be limited in this game which should be place where you can try things you cant in rl?
Human creativity is already limited by urbanistic plans. Don't do that in sl too. THis is only the game and nothing can change that, but seems some people can't relax in their homes and do own biz.
Immagine this piece of idiot. First day I moved he contacted me and said im an asshole and he wants i move and remove my objects. He is even not in my sim. Why should I like his houses and he dont want to like mine? I didnt ask him anything. Im not bothered by anything he would put on his land... but than..behind that story, there's often a gay who is only interested to have human contacts, cos he misses that, not "pure" pg area.
My opinion is: - adult continent sucks and is worst idea i heard recently - mainland is ok like it is If you plan to do that, that will drasticly reduce mainland value (see survey) but i just dont think you will gonna do so. "Moral" people who only valutate "real values" and are always "pure and clean" will not gonna buy your PG's cos they are usually out of money.

From: Elanthius Flagstaff ...... 253 sims is suspiciously close to 5% of the entire mainland so I suppose it might be all of the new continent. Seems like that would be far too few sims and we could see prices there be very high. I seem to remember seeing a Linden mouth saying that they estimated that about 4% of the current Mainland would need moving to the Adult continent. It would be useful if they published their methodology. Possible they totalled Mainland metres - flagged as Mature Content, or - flagged as Mature Content and flaged for inclusion is Search, or - having keywords or object descriptions that matched a hit-list - and flagged for inclusion is Search Who knows?

In my own point of view, (PG) land devalues SL enough with the current rules. (T_T) I didn't come to a virtual world to be handed real-world rules. While I (barely) accept the ones given now, it's a bit troublesome to see them growing more and more strict as time passes. (T_T) When the time came when I wanted to buy land, I went for a (Mature) sim in order to live with minimal restrictions and fear over what unspoken rules I may be breaking. Now that's changing. (>_< My SL life is relatively skirting the edge of PG. But, just that. At best, I find myself considerably annoyed by all the G reglations that come with (PG) land and often wind up abandoning a few friends simply out of fear of breaking unspoken rules. (T_T) Because of that fear, the only land I value is land that will give me the maximum freedom possible to express who I am in this virtual world. I probably won't leave the land I'm on now because it's close to a person I endear greatly. But if that person were to uproot, I'll be gone in a flash to find a 512 to 560 parcel. Regardless of necessity. (>_<

i personally prefer PG, so i think the mainland will be more 'exploration friendly' for me with this change.

THis has always been my position too. Think about it, we are allowed to kill freely in SL. And, I don't even mind, yet I am a person that abhors killing. It's not real. BT

BT Imagine, okay, so I will accumulate a taskforce command, rush into the sim you currently just are doing other things than killing each other, and shoot everybody. If that makes you feel at home more, then. The American dream? Play outside and get mobbed and shot? I guess that's why we have combat sims, and soon an adult continent. So people who don't want that can easily avoid them. Some people want their SL experience to be other than getting shot or walk into gangbangs all the time. It's not real, it's a game and a virtual community. That doesn't mean we have to aggravate everyone at free will. I call SL a really advanced chat room. the SL economy will not be hurt I think. All player who are merely on SL to get poseballed really hard will stack up on the adult continent. So all that are left on the mainland are people who don't pixelbang asses by default, and those who are on a break from the lagged adult continent. Actually, I don't see a problem with all adult content being moved to a special location. hopefully the new empty spots on the mainland will be filled up soon, and actually be worth visiting. As a child avatar I already have enough problems trying to dodge buildings I'm not allowed in. This makes it a lot easier for me. But hey, I'm just one little member here. as a newbie helper, most first questions still are "where is the sex". So that leave me with one assumption. A LOT of People join SL for sex with pixel puppets. Then they find it extremely boring and start amusing themselves in other ways.

. No, you can not come to my sim and do that because there is an easy fix, I can make my specific plot no kill and we did not need a continent to do that, plus, i Have it labeled as mature.

Less.
Personally, it doesn't affect me or how I use my land. And again, personally, it *might* improve my chances for getting neighbors with builds and script loads I like. But my personal taste isn't what will drive the price structure.
Two factors: More land. Less choice.

I voted less. I see mainland becoming a copy of the real world, littered with advertisements and banality.

Taking the poll question as it is then I will value the mainland more. Zoning always has a higher value to people as it brings people of like minds together. From the megarich in places like BayCity all the way down the line to places like Chilbo. SinCity going to a monster fun place for a lot of people as well, so the value goingto be equal to what they get out of it. And thats going to be a lot for quite a few people.
I think that there should be 4 zones on the mainland.
1) PG like in HIP OIP WA. No Public Nudity, Guns or Foul Language. 2) Mature. Nudity is OK. So are Guns and Swearing. Smex in the privacy of your own home. For people of the Mature and Stable kind. 3) AO. Smex and violence as a business or enterprise both profit and non-profit. Age-verify zone. 4) Outlaw. Build what you like. Do you what like. No Covenant. No ToS except for Land Issues like encroachment. RL laws excepted otherwise untrammeled Lawlessness. Landowner rules. Age-verify zone.
Is the Outlaws who are not being catered for here at the moment in these discussions. Having to only pick 1, 2 or 3 is not good. Whats outlaw ??? Is behavioural really and has little to do with land. Like, dry humping your friends avatar whenever they go afk and taking a photo. Drowning them in the sea as well. Popping off at avatars who fly over your land with cow and sheep and couch and pancake guns or whatever your latest homemade invention is. Endlessly playing every gesture you just got from a freebee bin. Blinging and poofing up everyone in sight just because is kool and the landowner allows it. And yada yada.
Is a time and place for everything is true. And I understand about the AO zoning. I just worry a little about where do the people who not into AO smex and violence, who while are willing to help new residents (and they do lots) at the OI HI WA IH places, need a place to have fun afterwards. Be a little mischievious as well sometimes. Mature and Stable go together. Mature and Mischievious do not always. Not as far as the Mature and Stable people are concerned. Well not the grumpy ones anyways.

An outlaw continent would be a fun idea. I could see the entertainment factor being very high in a place like. I'd visit.

Very interesting results. Apologies for not having an "I'm not sure" option or a "if this, or this, or that happens" set of scenarios ~ doing that tends to not really get to the heart of a matter. Also, seeing as how people have alts, "real" SL names are about the only way to truly validate a poll. In fact, I think it's one of the last ways to validate findings. Not as good as a secret ballot, but better than anonymous alt stuffing in a secret ballot. * * * * * As someone mentioned above, it's a million dollar question. Is it? Yeah, it does look like it. Let's pretend the mainlands are 3000 regions (it's actually closer to 4000, but just watch the numbers). Due to the fact that there are large numbers of people not getting full sim tier discount, mainland regions are worth very roughly 300 USD/mo each to our service provider ~ there have been statements to this effect in the past. Based on this, 300 fully occupied regions make them roughly a million a year, before expenses. So there is maybe a million dollars per year difference for every 10% change in mainland occupancy. * * * * * Purely on market matters, Elanthius hit the nail on the head regarding value. I see similar effects with estate land. The big mainland question will be actual occupancy ~ how much abandoned land is out there?

Well, consider the number one reason why people move to estates: their neighbors on the mainland.
If the neighborhood cleans up, fewer people will want to take the chance of moving to an estate where your landlord can up and disappear without notice.
I think LL is banking on a new influx of mainland residents based on a slightly cleaner SL. After all, one thing we don't know is just how many new sign ups depart after their first day because all they found here was pornutopolis. That number could be pretty significant.

Value of Mature Mainland after all adult content removed? Zero. Just like PG-Rated sims. I'm an adult, and am signed up for an adults-only virtual world. If I have to act like I am standing in front of a kindergarten class, I'll go join Webkins World...
While I may *choose* to do some activities that remain solidly G-rated, like playing as a care-free kid avatar rollerskating or bike riding ib PG areas from time to time, I would not be here if that was ALL I was allowed to do here.

I like Tabliopa's idea.
I was about to suggest something similar over in the huge Further Conversations thread, but it's useless, LL is set on this specific solution set and won't listen to alternatives.
I especially like the "Outlaw" zoning idea. Let's take that a bit further. Make Outlaw land always damage, script, object, and push enabled. Brenda and Chris will have a field day.
Most of all, LL should let the market decide. In fact, they might do better to not make any new continents at all. Re-zone one of the mainland continents PG, a couple of them M, one AO, and one Outlaw. Then let everyone who wants to put in for one free swap to the zone of their choosing.

I think this has something to do with the teengrid that will be merged, but they haven't got plans for. step 1 is to ban all adults to a different grid and give the mainland to the teens. step 2 is to open all gates for the kiddies to throw griefer tools at everybody on the mainland. step 3 is to ban all remote and estate lands, because all adults not into sex fled to their private non-mainland sims. step 4 is to beg everybody to come back because nobody will log in again. step 5 is ?..... So we leave with a mainland shredded by children, and an adult continent filled with the biggest virtual clusterfuck ever. Is that their plan? because if Second life ADULT grid was really adult, why would there be PG rated sims to begin with? I don't want kids around. And I'm not the only one.

I doubt that, at least based on my experience. Most of the male new AVs that I meet are very excited to learn about obtaining their complete avatar body parts. I usually help them. BT
