I was looking for an anti griefing product and I noticed the advertising for quite a few of them targets women and uses the phrase "fend off perverts". I couldnt help wandering what was meant by 'perverts'. I came to the conclusion that it means male naked avatars with detachable erect penises on display who wonder around trying to pick up for some simulated animated sex. I suppose this might be annoying to some of us ladies if it happens too often but when I look around in second life I see women everywhere objectifying themselves dressed in a way that appears to scream 'look at me Im here for your sexual gratification'. A lot of women seem to go out of their way to look like street level prostitutes. Many end up looking like bad drag queens in the process. Is it any wonder that they are harrassed by so called 'perverts'? It makes me wander if these female avatars are even really women at all or are they perhaps just frustrated old men projecting their own unfulfilled sexual fantasies. In second life we are free to be anything we want from aliens to vampires to mythical creatures to our favourite celebrity and thats one of the amazing things about it yet sadly as in real life it seems to be full of sheep following the herd with little imagination. Well actually, I haven't seen a sheep avatar in SL, anyone seen one? Maybe some women have worked out that despite what their mums told them, most guys really don't find pink flowers interesting at all, I wish women in RL would dress like SL......... _____________________

I dont dress like a prostitute in second life and I dont get harrassed simple as that. Nobody is a helpless victim. If you dont want so called 'perverts' with detachable penises harrassing you think about the role you play in attracting such attention. I don't dress like a prostitute either (I'm not judging, I don't care what other people wear but I might giggle to myself over, excessive bling, facelights that look like orbiting planets while rezzing, and missing shoe bases). In fact, I was at a club not long ago and a guy was IMing me asking for a date...I just told him that I wasn't interested but the girls on the poles were friendly...he said "ugh". edit to clarify: asking for a 'date' was me being polite. When I came to Second Life, I had just been in an almost fatal car accident and was facing a long recovery. I had never played an online game in my life, and had only been in chat once or twice.
I tried to make an avatar that was me, using prims to measure. I'm short, too skinny (although prefer sleek or svelt, haha) and mammorically challenged. I'm still using that original shape. I buy and wear whatever looks really well made. If its sexy ... fine. If not ... thats fine too. Neither matters to me, as long as it pushes the quality envelope. Like a previous poster mentioned, it's all about playing Barbie. I rarely, if ever get hit on. I think a non-Amazon named Viciously isn't attractive on here ... which is ok with me, since I mostly build, race cars and shoot people down in my F8F Bearcat fighter.  Never in a million years did I think I would still be here after recovering ... but, I would miss the Lindens too much though. Was any of that topical? |

Sling, I realise (hope?) you were being facetious but for the guy to think he would get the same response from me with that line as he'd get from the 'dancing escorts' with that line and a few Lindens WAS treating me like a whore. Worse - a stupid whore. Who'd fall for that type of treatment after all? I've always thought prostitutes did not charge for sex but for the way they were treated before and after. They put up with it for the money. Others do not have to, so they don't. It's also tacky (for him/any guy) to think or assume he would get sex from a given woman at all. That's also treating every woman like a whore, since whores aren't supposed to be able to say no (although they certainly can and do). Your reply implies, Sling, that money is the only difference between whores and non whores, but that would mean any woman can be had by any man and that simply isn't true. It's sad it even has to be explained to some that women aren't just there for the taking. Btw has 'vulva core' (?) heard of lipstick lesbians? Women DO dress for themselves whether they wear lipstick and dresses, or plaid shirts and Birkenstocks. Whether they are hetero or gay. People wear what THEY find attractive, not to set bait; at least, not always. |

I reckon that even a prostitute does have sex from to time because she desires a particular man, like a waitress might have a guest at home from time to time and bring them coffee because she likes this person. Personally, I dress how I want to see myself dressed. Not for other people,especially not for men. If I think an outfit is nice,I buy it and wear it(in SL or RL). If someone doesn't like it,they can look away. Pretty simple. Opinions of strangers do not mean all that much to me.
