I was looking for an anti griefing product and I noticed the advertising for quite a few of them targets women and uses the phrase "fend off perverts". I couldnt help wandering what was meant by 'perverts'. I came to the conclusion that it means male naked avatars with detachable erect penises on display who wonder around trying to pick up for some simulated animated sex.
I suppose this might be annoying to some of us ladies if it happens too often but when I look around in second life I see women everywhere objectifying themselves dressed in a way that appears to scream 'look at me Im here for your sexual gratification'.
A lot of women seem to go out of their way to look like street level prostitutes. Many end up looking like bad drag queens in the process. Is it any wonder that they are harrassed by so called 'perverts'?
It makes me wander if these female avatars are even really women at all or are they perhaps just frustrated old men projecting their own unfulfilled sexual fantasies.
In second life we are free to be anything we want from aliens to vampires to mythical creatures to our favourite celebrity and thats one of the amazing things about it yet sadly as in real life it seems to be full of sheep following the herd with little imagination.

Hi Lala, welcome to SL. Why were you looking for anti griefing products so soon? Perverts means different things to different people. Those naked noobs you speak of, I think they are hilarious especially when the penises are stuck to the side of their head or wearing the box on their hand cause don't know how to take it off. Perverts, not necessarily, just not yet clued in to how SL works, for the most part. Thing about SL is live and let live, and do what makes Lala happy, don't bring yourself down judging other people's SL experience. People are there, doing what they want to do, as you should be. Relax, explore a bit, have fun before so easily condemning and judging. Not sure what your expectations were, for making this post here.......this is Resident Answers, what's your question exactly?

I disagree with the OP re lack of imagination. Everywhere you look you see amazing things- not just builds but the avies themselves.

Unless fresh off noobsville, people do differentiate themselves. If that means they want to look like like prostitutes or the girl next door, it is clearly their vision at the time. Also, as you grow in SL you find your interests change and shift. I was here for a couple years at least before I went non-human myself. Point is, it takes time - we move, we grow, we change. Our horizons widen and the changes show.

Don't despair or call Residents sheeple - it is all in constant flux.

Hi lala, yes, there are a lot of sexualised male and female avvies. I wonder if it's because despite being us all being pixels, we are still connected to our biological brains, and not everybody wants to make a sideways leap towards an asexual form or lifestyle. So, some avvies display in order to pick up, and in order to get the pick of the best, the net is cast wide. The downside being that not all attention this brings is desired, and the understandable risk is being hounded by blokes with blue spikey Linden hair and icky pink freenises.

As for whether of not anybody deserves griefing or violence because they are sexual...I say no.

I recently came across an avatar whose profile openly stated that they were the opposite gender in RL, complete with an RL photo to prove it. But as I chatted, I still thought of the person as being the gender of the avatar.

Another thing wrong with your 'logic' is that those who harass do not discriminate. Doesn't matter how their target(s) are dressed, what they are doing, what they are saying or even the apparent age (or in SL's case, whether the av is even human). You know - kind of like sexual offenders in real life. Which may even be who's running the av causing the mayhem.
