I don't think it's necessary to go over the whole sequence, LittleMe.

You can start at page one, and do that.

Just to be clear, though; there's nothing wrong with a good one-sided rant. However, it won't, and shouldn't be expected to, engender serious consideration and discussion. It will, as demonstrated, usually devolve into a drama fest. ;)

maybe if you actually read the thread you will see that a serious discussion did ensue, opinions were changed, and questioned and some people are rethinking how to price and perm their own objects and even I came to a different conclusion than i had when i started the thread thanks in part to the calm discussion that ensued by the people who were actually on the topic.

So yea, it did engender serious consideration and discussion. Only a small vocal minority turned it into a temporary personal flame fest.

I did read the thread, thanks. :)

I apparently missed the part where "opinions were changed". It probably got lost in all the noise caused by the initial ranting triggering the expected drahhhhma. ;)

A flame fest which would most likely have been avoided by starting off by not spraying the thread with napalm and striking the match, no? :D

Post #1 was aimed at a business.

People can picket. People can bring an issue to the community. This has been repeated multiple times in this thread.

You took issue with my taking issue with a business in SL and how i worded my opinion of their pricing and permission structure.

Great reason for a slag fest.

How can post #1 be a flame fest of any sort when no specific store or person was mentioned?

Apparently we have different definitions of *flaming* in forum posts.

The definition of flaming doesn't require specific, named targets. You can easily flame generalized groups, or the public as a whole.

"All business owners who do this are greedy assholes."

"People who pay too much money for something are stupid."

It's actually a fairly common way to troll for drama. More often than not, someone will feel antagonized as a member of that specific group, taking the bait, and respond.

Hence, this thread.

I kind of see the way it can be a flame fest. It does give enough details that people can figure out who is being discussed. The language was inflamatory. Making the assumption that the creator had no other motive or reason then greed.

And on top of that, I really wish they would remove me from their stupid IM update system. Nothing worse than getting a friendly IM about the new products of a greedy MotherF"er, only to go there and see they are squeezing the community for every penny they can get.

By the way.. I don't know if anyone has addressed this yet, but the usual way to get off these lists is to go back to the sign up item and touch it again. That should remove you.

I will be the first to admit that i "really really" need to walk away from a post before hitting the submit button and coming back 10 mins later and removing and grossly biased and foul parts.

I was really upset though as i had not been there in several months and i had expectations that were too high and when they were not met i got pissed and brought here to express my dislike of that new policy.

Thankfully, quite a few people spoke calmly about the issue and as i said a few pages ago. I now understand the rational, and respect that. I just wish it was not a doubling in fee - as a few people have also said.

I definitely started the thread in a bad manner, and yet I see no one from that business here to crucify me - and they have appeared in previous threads. But someone did take up the shield and sword for them and did battle in a very personal way.

Live and learn.

Yeah, that is exactly why I took the first post with a grain of salt. I know how easy it is to say something in a moment of ire. I hope you did get off the irritating list though. They are nice when you like a product, but definately an irritation if your experience with that product goes sour.

You shredded ME here and at SLU.

What are you talking about?

I am done responding to you as i feel you really do not see what has transpired here and how your perception of things is quite different.

The store in question doesn't use a Subscribe-o-Matic. Instead, they send private IMs to their customers. I've *never* clicked a SoM at this particular store, and yet twice already I have received private IMs informing me (as a previous/regular customer) that new dances have been released at the store. I even replied to the first one and received a reply back.

Oh ick... I think that is bad practice. I think I would send one polite request that they remove me from any further announcements and then AR for spam if my request was not followed. Is that too harsh?

I gotta say I agree that those price hikes are annoying.

Not that I don't 'get' why a creator might do that.....(the example of copiable furniture being used in rental homes was perfect) But.....the bottom line is that creators only have to make something ONCE......and then, they can make a profit off of sales indefinitely. This would be like the ultimate magic in the real world. Think of the implications for manufacturing...... well......technically....manufacturing would be a moot concept. Build it once.....you're done. How awesome is that?

So....in SL.....I find it really absurd to charge ridiculous amounts for items when there's absolutely zero manufactuaring overhead cost. Even it takes hours to make something....a complicated vehicle.....or a detailed skin.....once it's done...it's done. Yeah....we might go back and tweek things and update certain aspects.....but the basic fact of the matter is.....we only have to build ONE....and copy the hell out of it and sell it.

Given this fact....I wont spend a lot on copy perms either.....because really....how many flippen couches do I need....or dances.....ok sure....maybe a club barren is going to come along and use multiple copies for his multiple clubs....but SO WHAT....the majority of the consumers are not going to have a use for 50 zillion copies of the same thing that they cannot transfer.

The irony to all of this......is based on my feelings about it.....and my aim to be fair and affordable with what I create......I don't do ANY better selling my stuff at a bargain price. I sometimes wonder if a jacked the cost 300%.....if people wouldn't come flocking to my shop because...."it's expensive....so it must be good!" But I wont do it.... As a consumer I wont pay more then I think I should....and as a creator I wont budge on my position of offering a low priced competative product.
